The pocket-size dynamite, David Warner played his final competitive international game in Australia yesterday and capped off the match with a sensational 49 ball 81 runs during the Aussies’ unsuccessful chase of 221 runs against the West Indies in the series concluding 3rd T20I at the Optus Stadium in Adelaide.

Following his last appearance in National Colors Down Under, Warner claimed that he was well and truly done before affirming that it was time for the youngsters to take over.

Despite David Warner’s tremendous effort, Australia under the captaincy of Mitchell Marsh, lost by 37 runs but they claimed the 3-match T20 series by a margin of 2-1. The Aussies were coming on the back of a 3-0 whitewash of the West Indies in the ODI series after a 1-1 draw in the 2-match Test series.

Now the Australians will shift their focus to their upcoming tour of New Zealand which starts exactly in a week. A full-strength squad as well as a playing XI will be on display for the series which includes 3 T20Is and 2 Tests of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

While David Warner won’t be a part of the Test team as he retired from the format last month, the 37-year-old will feature in the T20s scheduled to take place on the 21st, 23rd, and 25th February at Wellington and Auckland. He will enter the series with form and rhythm on his side.

The Southpaw was adjudged as man of the series for his two 50+ scores in the T20 series against West Indies. Warner had scores of 70, 22, and 81 in Brisbane and Adelaide and he was easily the main reason why the Baggy Greens completed back-to-back white ball series wins.

After the match ended, David Warner, while speaking in a match presentation, revealed that it was his final outing on home soil and that now it was time for the upcoming generation to take over from him and keep the Australian flag on top wherever they go, something he did so well in his illustrious career.

“I’m well and truly done. It’s time for the youngsters to come through and showcase their talents. We’ve got extreme talent here and you’ve got a lot of the guys here from Perth that are in this team at the moment. We’re in good stead for the future.” – Warner told Adam Gilchrist via Fox Sports.

“Freshening Up And Spending Some Time With The Girls”, Says David Warner On His Post Retirement Plans

When asked about his plans after retirement, David Warner responded that he would take his time to freshen up and spend quality time with his family. He mentioned that he would be looking after their daughter’s schooling and sporting activities and just lying on his bed. But he still has about 4-5 months before doing so.

After the New Zealand series, Warner will be heading to New Delhi to join the Delhi Capitals squad for IPL 2024 before heading back to Australia and leaving for the USA and West Indies for the 2024 T20 WC.

“Freshening up and spending some time with the girls. Not sure that’s going to freshen me up but it’ll be great to spend some time with them and work on their schooling and sport and just be home in my bed.” – David Warner concluded.

The third and final T20I between Australia and West Indies played on Tuesday (February 13) was a special game for veteran opener David Warner. It was his last international match in Australia. The left-handed batsman had already retired from Tests and ODIs earlier this year and his latest decision means the upcoming T20 World Cup is likely to be his last-ever assignment in international cricket.

David Warner scored a fine fifty in his last T20I innings on home soil although his efforts were not enough for Australia to win the game and clean sweep the three-match series.

The star batsman smashed 81 runs off 49 balls with the help of 9 fours and 3 sixes. Australia, however, failed to chase down 221 runs and eventually lost the game by 37 runs. The hosts finished on 183 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs with David Warner being the only player to score a fifty.

“Well and truly done. It’s time for the youngsters to come through and showcase their talent. We’ve got extreme talent here. We’re in good stead for the future,” he said after the match.

David Warner creates another record:

In his final international game on home soil, David Warner added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap. The fine half-century helped him become only the fifth player in history to complete 12,000 runs in T20s. He is also the first Australian to achieve this incredible feat.

The left-handed batsman moved ahead of Virat Kohli in the list of most runs in the shortest format of the game. David Warner has now 12033 runs in T20s with the help of 8 centuries and a staggering 101 half-centuries. On the other hand, Kohli has 11994 runs in T20s. The former India skipper will have the opportunity to become the first-ever Indian to complete 12000 runs in T20s in the forthcoming IPL.

The overall list is led by West Indies’ Chris Gayle who has scored 14562 runs. He is the only player who has touched the 14000-run mark in T20s. At number two is Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik followed by West Indies’ Kieron Pollard, and David Warner. England’s Alex Hales complete the top five.

Most runs in T20s:

  • Chris Gayle – 14562
  • Shoaib Malik – 13096
  • Kieron Pollard – 12625
  • David Warner – 12033
  • Alex Hales – 12089

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced West Indian young sensation Shamar Joseph as the winner of the Men’s Player of the Month for January. Shamar Joseph beat the contenders, Josh Hazlewood and Ollie Pope, to secure the prestigious award.

Joseph made his international debut for the West Indies during the first Test of the series. He showcased his talent and made a significant impact despite having limited experience in first-class cricket. He troubled Australian batters throughout the series with his sheer pace.

Shamar Joseph Guides West Indies To First Test Victory In Australia In 27 Years

In the opening Test match at Adelaide, the young cricketer contributed a crucial 36 runs, batting at No. 11 during the West Indies’ first innings. Furthermore, Joseph impressed with his bowling performance, securing his maiden five-wicket haul during the series opener.

The 24-year-old fast bowler’s most memorable red-ball performance came during the second match in Brisbane. He managed to take just one wicket in Australia’s first innings. To make matters worse, he suffered a toe injury from a Mitchell Starc delivery while batting.

Joseph overcame pain to deliver a remarkable bowling performance, claiming figures of 7/68 in the final innings. He guided the team to a thrilling eight-run victory, leveling the series at 1-1. Notably, it was the West Indies’ first Test victory in Australia in 27 years.

He secured an impressive tally of 13 wickets across both Test matches at an impressive average of 17.30. Additionally, he contributed with the bat, scoring 57 runs at a respectable average of 28.50. Joseph was named Player of the Series for his valuable contributions.

Tears Are Coming In My Eyes – Shamar Joseph

Speaking after the match, Shamar Joseph revealed that he cried after achieving a five-wicket haul. He emphasized the significance of the Test victory for the West Indies. He also expressed his commitment to bowl until the last wicket fell, despite a toe injury.

“Tears are coming in my eyes but I already cried when I took the five-wicket haul. Just happy that we won the Test, when we last beat Australia I can’t remember but today is a big day for us, I just want us to enjoy, celebrate, and be happy.”

“It’s tough but I’m not that tired, because I wanted to do this for my team. I told to my skipper that I would bowl till the end until the last wicket falls. It doesn’t matter how my toe is, I’m okay, I did it for him and I’m happy that he is proud of me now,” Joseph said.

Shamar Joseph’s remarkable bowling display in Australia led to him securing his maiden IPL contract. The Lucknow Super Giants signed him for Rs 3 crore as a replacement for English pacer Mark Wood. He played only two T20 matches, with no wickets to his name.

LSG has showcased strong performances in their first two seasons, making it to the playoffs both times. However, they fell short of reaching the finals, as they suffered losses against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Seems as if Australia has learned from the mistake they made in the 2nd T20I against West Indies when their players including left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson who removed the bails himself, did not appeal for the run-out attempt of  Alzarri Joseph who was clearly out but eventually stayed in the crease after Australian players did not appeal and the umpire as a result did not go upstairs to have a check.

In the ongoing series concluding 3rd T20I between the two teams, another incident of this sort occurred but this time the Australian players were quick to appeal.

It unfolded during the 4th ball of the 4th over bowled by Jason Behrendorff when top order batsman Roston Chase wanted to complete a single after hitting the ball towards mid-off.

The ball was quickly picked up by Mitchell Marsh who threw the ball straight into the stumps at the non-striker’s end to make amends, everyone in the Australia team shouted out with all of the strength in their lungs and it also led to mid-on fielder Tim David to laugh.

In the commentary box too, Mark Howard was thrilled by the loud appeal from the fielders which reminded them of the 2nd T20I incident. Actually what had happened was that Alzarri Joseph had called for a run but he fell well short of his ground before Spencer Johnson had run him out.

While a few Australian players started celebrating automatically, the umpire showed no signs of getting to a decision as no one appealed. It created a massive stir on social media and questions were raised about the credibility of the umpire who was just doing his job concerning the rules.

Article 31.7 of the ICC rule book states that “Neither umpire shall give a batter out, even though he/she may be out under the Laws, unless appealed to by a fielder. This shall not debar a batter who is out under any of the Laws from leaving the wicket without an appeal having been made.”

In that regard, the umpire was right in his place and to take no chance at all again, Australia appealed but their timing was not right as Roston Chase entered the crease in time before the ball struck the led stumps.

Meanwhile, the West Indies are currently aiming to conclude their month-long tour of Australia by claiming a victory today in the 3rd T20I which could be their first win of the white-ball leg. They were whitewashed 3-0 in the ODI series and have already lost the T20 series after the Aussies claimed the first two matches in Brisbane and Adelaide.

And the visitors have done quite well in their initiation towards a win today. After winning the toss, they asked the hosts to bowl first, and following a crumbling start, West Indies have recovered very well through substantial knocks from Roston Chase (37 off 20), Rovman Powell (21 off 14), Shrefane Rutherford (67 off 40) and Andre Russell’s blistering (71 off just 29).

That has helped the Windies set up a target of 221 and now the onus is all upon the bowlers to save the team from suffering another white ball whitewash.

The AUS vs WI 3rd T20I will be played in Perth on February 13 Tuesday. The match starts at 1.30 pm IST. Australia have already won the series with two back-to-back wins and is looking for a clean sweep.

Austral;ia won the first T20I by 11 runs and the second by 34 runs. In both games, Australia scored over 220 with the bat and their bowlers backed it up with good performances on the field.

Glenn Maxwell’s fifth T20I toh highlighted Australia’s innings in Adelaide. He scored 120 to take the Aussies to a mammoth 241/4. David Warner (22), Mitchell Marsh (29), Marcus Stoinis (16) and Tim David ( 31 off 14) also came up with crucial contributions in an innings dominated by the Big Show. He hit 12 fours and eighth sixes in his 55-ball knock.

In the chase, the Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Skipper Rovman Powell (36), Andre Russell (37 off 16), and Jason Holder (28 off 16) were the key contributors. Russell with his recent batting form batted down at seven when he needed to bat up in the order. Nicholas Pooran and Powell themselves needed to carry on longer.

West Indies were expected to bounce back in the AUS vs WI T20I series but they have been well and truly outplayed. This T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 will come back to haunt them.

Two back-to-back wins have now taken Australia ahead of the Windies in the head-to-head count. 11-10 is the count now in favour of the Aussies who are keen on completing a clean sweep.

West Indies led by Rovman Powell needs to think about how can they make a comeback in the series. The senior players like Russell. Holder, Pooran will have to take the lead in the final T20I and make it work for the visitors. Since leveling the Test series, West Indies lost the three-match ODI series and are now on the brink of being whitewashed in the T20I series.

Australia are led by Mitchell Marsh in the series. While it was David Warner in the first T20I, it was Maxwell in the second. The team always finds different players standing up for the team in different matches.

There has been a visible difference in the form of players from both teas throughout the series. The two teams have played 146 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 21 T20Is, Australia have won 11 games while West Indies 10.

When comparing the two teams, the current Windies side looks more experienced in the format than the Aussies given their experience of playing across various T20 leagues. However, at home, the Australian players in known conditions have managed to bring the best out of them.

Before the start of the T20I series, the Aussies were behind the WIndies in the head-to-head count. However, after back-to-back wins, they are now ahead by 11-10 in 21 matches between the two sides.

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh in this T20I series. The team is struggling with injury concerns for key players. Matthew Short is out of the T20I series with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Nathan Ellis is out with a rib injury and Spender Johnson has been named as his replacement. Given how the Aussies performed in the last match they are likely to field an unchanged XI.

Perth is all set to host the AUS vs WI 3rd T20I on February 13. The match starts at 1.30 pm IST. Australia have already won the series by winning the first two Test matches and is looking for a clean sweep.

Glenn Maxwell’s record fifth T20I ton became the headlines after Australia’s second T20I win. He overtook Rohit Sharma’s tally of four T20I centuries and surpassed him in the second T20I. All the Windies bowlers had an economy of over 10 runs per over courtesy of Glenn Maxwell’s brute force.

West Indies in their chase, reached as far as 207/9. Skipper Rovman Powell top-scored with 63. Andre Russell (37) and Jason Holder (16) batted way below than their liking as they did not get enough deliveries to make a match interesting.

This was after their top order did not contribute substantially to the chase. Johnson Charles (24) and Nicholas Pooran (18) did not last long.

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh. He will replace Pat Cummins who is rested for the series. Mitchell Starc is also rested from the series. Josh Hazlewood is back for the T20I series after resting from the third ODI.

Australia will miss Matthew Short. He is ruled out with a hamstring injury. The Aussies will also miss Nathan Ellis who is out with an injured rib cage. The management has named Spencer Johnson as his replacement.

West Indies will be led by Rovman Powell. The squad sees the return of specialist players like Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran who were busy playing in the ILT20 league.

Despite the return of their T20 specialists, the team could not turn up for the series. The T20I series was expected to be a much closer contest after the ODI series lost, but the visitors have been completely outplayed.

The two teams have played 146 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 21 T20Is, Australia have won 11 games while West Indies 10. In 120 Test matches between the two sides, Australia have won 61 matches and West Indies 33.

The series was seen as a dress rehearsal for both teams for the T20 World Cup 2024 of which the Windies are one of the co-hosts. The way the series went so far, only one team benefitted from it. The Windies have won the tournament twice while Australia once in 2021.

AUS vs WI Weather Report Live Today And Pitch Report Of Perth Stadium– 3rd T20I, 2024

The Perth stadium has one of the fastest tracks in international cricket. It was even pace bounce and carry. Australia are looking to bounce out their opposition as no players of the Windies team are comfortable against the pace of the opposition.

Perth has hosted only seven T20is with five teams winning the match chasing. Given Australia’s dominance with the bat so far in the series, this is expected to be another high-scoring contest.

The temperature will be around 35 degrees on Tuesday, February 13. The AUS vs WI 3rd T20I starts from 1.30 pm local time. The weather so far for the T20I games has been very suitable for cricket. It drops down to around 18 degrees in the evening. The weather will remain fair and clear with no chance of rain.

The AUS vs WI 3rd and final T20I will be played in Perth on February 13. The match starts at 1.30 pm IST with West Indies looking to avoid a clean sweep. Australia won the first two games and won the series already.

Australia won the first T20I by 11 runs in Hobart. The second 20I was designed by Glenn Maxwell’s fifth T20I ton. He is the only batter now with five centuries in the format. Australia powered to 241/4 batting first. Maxwell hit 12 fours and 8 sixes during his knock.

The Windies reached as far as 207/9 in the chae with power-hitters Andre Russell (37), Rovman Powell (63), and Jason Holder (16) scoring the runs after the top-order failed to give them a good start. Marcus Stoinis picked up three wickets while Josh Hazlewood and Spender Johnson picked up two each to limit the Windies.

The ODI series loss highlighted the flaws within the cricket board in identifying talent. Now with the T20I series also lost, the West Indies cricket team has serious problems before the T20 World Cup of which they are one of the hosts. Skipper Rovman Powell has a lot to think about ahead of their next game on Tuesday.

The two teams have played 146 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 21 T20Is, Australia have won 11 games while West Indies 10. The T20I series kicks off the preparations of both teams for the T20 World Cup 2024.

AUS vs WI Match Preview- 3rd T20I, 2024

Australia

Australia have dominated the West Indies well and truly in all departments. The team is in a pretty good head space ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

David Warner performed with the bat in the first T20I while Maxwell mounted the challenge for West Indies in the second. The all-rounders have gone about doing their job in the games so far as well.

Speaking about the Aussie bowling unit, Josh Hazlewood has led the attack in the absence of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. Jason Behrendorff and Spencer Johnson have made the most of their chances in the absence of the senior pacers, and Adam Zampa the specialist T20I spinner has made his presence felt as well.

All in all the bowling and the batting have looked good in the series and will look to continue the good work. Having won the second T20I comfortably, Australia might not consider making any changes.

Australia Squad

Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Jason Behrendorff, Tim David, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa

West Indies

After the ODI series loss, West Indies were expected to bounce back in their favorite format. However, they have been well and truly outplayed. They had their specialists heading into this series with a fair amount of T20 cricket across various T20 leagues.

However, they have not been able to adjust themselves to the conditions in Australia. The bowlers have gone for too many conceding over 200 runs in both the games. The batters despite their big-hitting ability have failed to chase down totals.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup, West Indies, who are one of the hosts of the event need to identify the areas where they are falling behind. The absence of a senior spinner like Sunil Narine is among one of the many reasons.

The bowlers have gone for plenty and the sea =m dominated attack brings a lot of sameness to the bowling attack as well. More than their batting they need to work on their bowling unit if they want to win the T20 World Cup at home.

West Indies squad

Rovman Powell (c), Shai Hope, Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Oshane Thomas

Australia and West Indies go head to head in the AUS vs WI third T20I in Perth on February 13, Tuesday. The match starts at 1.30 pm IST and concludes the three-match series. The visitors were completely outplayed in the first two games.

Australia have won the first two games and are looking for a clean sweep. They won the first T20I by 11 runs and the second by 34 runs. In both games, they scored well over 200 runs and won by comfortable margins.

The Aussies scored a mammoth 241/4 in the second T20I, powered by Glenn Maxwell’s fifth T20I ton. He is now the only batter with five centuries in the format overtaking Rohit Sharma’s tally of four. David Warner (22), Mitchel Marsh (29), Marcus Stoinis (16) and Tim David (31 off 14) played their part in the game.

West Indies chasing 242 to win ended at 207/9. Rovman Powell the skipper scored 63 while Andre Russell (37) and Jason Holder (28) came up with contributions as well. There was no contribution from any top-order batter which is a concern for the team heading into the final T20I.

Australia have now moved ahead of West Indies in head-to-head contests in AUS vs WI T20Is. Australia after two back-to-back wins have now won 11 matches while West Indies 10. The two teams have played 146 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 120 Test matches, Australia have won 61 while the Windies 33.

The series kicked off preparations for both teams for the T20 World Cup 2024. West Indies will be led by Rovman Powell while Mitchell Marsh leads Australia. Both teams have their T20 specialists back for the series as well. However, the Windies have not gained too many positives from the series so far.

The players from both teams were playing across various T20 leagues. The likes of David Warner, Andre Russell, and Nicholas Pooran were playing in the ILT20, while Marcus Stoinis and Tim David were playing in the SA20. Various Australian players are fresh off an entertaining BBL campaign.

Shimron Hetmyer has not found a place in the Windies T20I side. Australia, on the other hand, have injury concerns with Nathan Ellis. He is ruled out of the series with a rib injury and is sidelined from cricket for almost a month as per reports in Cricket Australia’s official website.

Spencer Johnson who broke a deal with Gujarat Titans in the IPL was named as his replacement. Mitchell Sarc and Pat Cummins have been rested for the series. Josh Hazlewood who missed the third ODI has been added to the T20I side as is Glenn Maxwell who missed the ODI series as well.

West Indies take on Australia in the third T20I looking to avoid a clean sweep. The visitors lost the first two T20Is and lost the series in the process. Since drawing the Test series, West Indies have lost the ODI series and are on the brink of losing the T20I series.

In both the T20Is so far, the Windies bowlers have conceded more than 200 runs. They lost the first T20I by 11 runs and the second by 34 runs. Windies who will host the T20 World Cup later this year have been undone in their favorite format.

Rovman Powell leads the side with their specialist T20 players back in the side. The likes of Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran joined the side after playing ILT20 in the UAE. They were expected to perform better in the first two games but have underplayed themselves.

The return of the T20I specialists surely strengthens the side. Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph provide the necessary experience to the bowling lineup. Shimron Hetmyer is not a part of the T20I side. The two teams have played 148 ODIs with the Aussies winning 78 matches and West Indies 61. In 21 T20Is, Australia have won 11, games while West Indies 10.

However, the team has not been able to play as a unit with all their big names returning. They now have a chance to avoid a clean sweep and finish the series on a high. They need to especially focus on their bowling unit and ensure that they do not ask their batters to chase heavy targets every time.

Kyle Mayers can come in for Brandon King in the final T20I. King scored 53 in the second T20I but Mayers brings the all-round factor in the side and is a more attacking batter than King.

Johnson Charles

Charles will be the other opener. He scored 42 and 24 in the first two games. However, he has not been able to convert his starts which he should look to do in the final T20I.

Nicholas Pooran (WK)

Poora will bat at three. He scored 18 each in the first and the second T20I. The southpaw should be a longer inning if West Indies are to win this final T20I. He is approaching 2000 T20I runs and has played 87 matches.

Rovman Powell (C)

Powell should bat at four. He scored 63 in the previous game but to no avail. The Windies skipper needs to be consistent with his knocks leading up to the T20 World Cup.

Sherfane Rutherford

Rutherford is another big hitter. He played both the games and scored 7 and 0. All these big hitters need to justify their quality leading up to the T20 World Cup. Rutherford has scored just 145 runs in 11 T20Is so far.

Andre Russell

Andre Russell

Russell scored 1 and 37 in the first two T20Is and was very expensive with the ball. The all-rounder has scored 884 runs in 72 T20Is and one short of 50 T20I wickets. He is targeting to play in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Jason Holder

The former skipper will slot in at seven. He [played two unbeaten knocks in the first two games and picked up wickets as well. He is another who is targeting to play in the T20 World Cup 2024. Holder skipped the Test and the ODI matches.

Romario Shepherd

Shepherd will slot in at eight. He scored 2 and 12 in the two games and picked up one wicket each in the first two games. He is another all-rounder with brute force as a batter and can bowl quality slower deliveries.

Akeal Hosein

Hosein can bat at nine and is the specialist T20I spinner for West Indies. He has remained wicketless in the series so far. He has picked up 37 wickets from 46 T20Is.

Alzarri Joseph

Joseph will lead the pace attack. He picked up two wickets in the first T20I and one in the second. So far in 21 T20Is, he has picked 35 wickets. The pacer is key to the team’s T20 World Cup dreams.

Gudakesh Motie

Motie concludes the likely XI for West Indies in the first T20I against Australia. He played in the ODI series as well. He has played just five T20Is so far picking up five wickets. he did not play in the first two games.

Opening batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk and pacer Wes Agar were added to Australia’s squad for the final T20I clash against West Indies. Notably, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Wes Agar have not played any T20I match in their international career so far.

21-year-old Fraser-McGurk recently made his international debut in the ODI series against West Indies. The right-handed batter was part of the last two ODI games against West Indies, which Australia won comfortably.

On the other hand, 27-year-old pacer Wes Agar returns to the national side after July 2021, when he played two ODIs for the team against West Indies. He failed to get any wickets in both games and was sidelined from the national squad for more than two years.

Australia is set to face West Indies in the final T20I game. The AUS vs WI 3rd T20I takes place on Tuesday, February 13 at Perth Stadium in Perth. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Wes Agar were added to the squad ahead of the final game.

Notably, Australia has already won the three-match series after winning the first two games. Since the AUS vs WI 3rd T20I encounter is a dead-rubber game for the hosts, they are highly likely to add Jake Fraser-McGurk and Wes Agar to the playing 11.

Jake Fraser-McGurk hit quickfire 41 runs in the 3rd ODI

While Agar struggled in his previous international outing in July 2021, McGurk impressed with his explosive batting show in the recent AUS vs WI ODI series. The right-handed batter made his ODI debut in AUS vs WI 2nd ODI.

However, he got out cheaply for 10 runs in the encounter. He bounced back in the next match. In the 3rd ODI in Canberra, the young batter slammed a quickfire knock of 41 runs off 18 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes.

Australia comfortably won the match by 8 wickets after chasing down a mere 87-run target set by the Caribbean team in the 1st innings. Winning the ODI game in just 6.5 overs, Australia also shattered many previous records.

Fraser earned a national call after his stunning show in the Big Bash League. Playing for Melbourne Renegades, the right-handed batter shammed 257 runs at a 158+ strike rate. He also slammed 18 sixes in the tournament.

AUS vs WI 3rd T20I will take place on Tuesday, February 13 at Perth Stadium in Australia. Australia leads the series 2-0 after winning the first two games by 11 and 34 runs respectively. Australia grabbed a clean sweep against West Indies in the ODI series earlier.

David Warner on Sunday, went past Mohammad Rizwan to become the seventh-highest run-getter in T20I cricket. Warner scored 22 off 19 deliveries in the second T20I between Australia and West Indies to take his T20I runs tally to 2986 runs in 101 innings. He recently became the first Australian to play 100 or more matches in all three formats and now has gone past Mohammad Rizwan in the runs tally in T20Is.

David Warner is now just 14 runs away from the 3000-run mark in the T20I format and becoming the first Australian to score 3000 or more runs in all three formats of the game. He scored 70 off 36 in the first T20I against West Indies. Notably, it was his 100th T20I match and what makes it even more memorable is the fact that he now has the rare feat of being the only player who has played a fifty-plus knock on his 100th Test, ODI, and T20I appearance.

Mohammad Rizwan has scored 2981 runs in 78 T20I innings at an astonishing average of 48.87 whereas David Warner has amassed 2986 runs in 101 T20I innings at an average of 33.18. Mohammad Rizwan has smashed 26 half-centuries and a century in the shortest format whereas David Warner has smashed 25 half-centuries and a century in T20Is.

David Warner recently retired from Test and ODIs after the three-match series against Pakistan was concluded last month and now he is aiming to participate in the T20 World Cup which is scheduled for June this year. Warner has been one of the best openers in the shortest format and is a valuable asset to the Australians in the top order.

David Warner Scored A Half Century In The T20 World Cup Finals In 2021

David Warner was the Player of The Series in Australia’s maiden T20 World Cup winning campaign in 2021 where he scored 289 runs in six innings at an average of 48.17 including three half-centuries in the tournament. He is expected to display a similar performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 where Australia will be trying to win the tournament and become the first nation to be crowned World Champions in all three formats at the same time.

David Warner has the opportunity to complete his 3000 runs in T20Is in the third T20I against the West Indies which will be played in Perth. Australia has already won the series and is looking to whitewash the West Indies by 3-0 in the series. Australia also whitewashed West Indies in the ODI series after drawing the Test series 1-1. The first two T20Is of the series were won by Australia in Hobart and Adelaide respectively. The third T20I is scheduled for Perth on Tuesday, February 13.

Australia had a terrific 2023 where they won two back-to-back ICC events, the ICC World Test Championship and the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. They are now aiming to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and earn their second T20 World Cup title having previously won in 2021. The T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by West Indies and the United States.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has explained why Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) replaced Mark Wood with Shamar Joseph for IPL 2024. Aakash Chopra also praised Shamar Joseph for his beautiful journey so far in his cricket career.

Lucknow Super Giants retained England pacer Mark Wood ahead of the IPL 2024 auction last year. The England pacer had a contract of Rs. 7.50 crore with the team. However, the franchise recently dropped him from the squad. They later signed Shamar Joseph for Rs. 3 crore.

Shamar Joseph will be in focus during IPL 2024. He grabbed a lot of limelight after his stint in the Test series against Australia. Lucknow Super Giants reached the playoffs in the last two seasons. However, the KL Rahul-led side lost the Eliminator game on both occasions and could not reach the final. In IPL 2023, they lost the Eliminator clash to Mumbai Indians.

Mark Wood wouldn’t be available for the entire IPL 2024: Aakash Chopra

Reputed commentator Aakash Chopra revealed the reason why LSG replaced Mark Wood with Shamar Joseph. He noted that Wood might not be available for the entire IPL 2024 and this might hamper LSG’s performance in the playoffs.

“The Lucknow Super Giants have signed Shamar Joseph. The Lucknow franchise needs to move forward as they reached the playoffs for two consecutive seasons. Eventually, you want to finish on the podium and maybe with the trophy in hand. So for that, they have now kept Joseph”.

“It was probably expected that Mark Wood wouldn’t be available for the entire season. However, before that itself, they decided – Mark Wood bye-bye, Shamar Joseph hi-hi. So Joseph has become a part of this team,” Chopra said.

Notably, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will commence on June 1 in the West Indies and USA. As a result, many prominent players might return to their country for the preparation for the tournament.

“It is the story of a woodcutter. His entire village works as carpenters. So his story started from there and where it’s reached – it’s beautiful. So Shamar Joseph will be playing in the Indian Premier League. He has got a very good contract, it’s exciting,” the 46-year-old added.

Notably, the 24-year-old pacer helped West Indies to secure a Test victory in Australia after 27 years and script history. Former Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy has slammed Andre Russell’s poor bowling show in the recent AUS vs WI 2nd T20I. Ian Healy feels that Andre Russell’s bowling was rubbish. The right-arm seamer leaked 59 runs in his 4 overs without a wicket in the match.

Notably, Andre Russell conceded 25 runs in the 20th over in the match. Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell stormed him for two boundaries and one six in the final over. Notably, Russell bowled two full-toss deliveries at the start of the over, one of which went to the boundary.

Glenn Maxwell was at his absolute best in the match. The right-handed batsman scored an unbeaten century off just 55 balls to register his 5th T20I ton. The right-handed batter shattered 12 boundaries and 8 sixes during his innings to drive Australia to a gigantic total of 241-4 in 20 overs.

During a chat on SENQ Breakfast, former Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy blasted Andre Russell’s dismal bowling show in the match. Healy said that Russell didn’t have to target Maxwell but he got aggressive.

“He was bowling rubbish. He didn’t have to target him. He was bowling him shin-high full tosses. Then he’d bowl a wide one which he (Glenn Maxwell) would carve up, which is one of his great shots. Then he’d walk across, he (Maxwell) would get a half volley on leg stump, and he’d flick it for six. Andre got aggressive, but he should get aggressive at himself because that was absolute poo,” he said.

That’s ridiculous: Ian Healy on Andre Russell’s batting order

Ian Healy, who played for Australia in over 100 ODIs and Tests, also feels that Andre Russell’s batting slot was ridiculous. Russell arrived to bat at no.7 in AUS vs WI 2nd Test.

“Where did he bat? Lower than midfield, he batted seven. That’s ridiculous. But he’s obviously selfish and that’s all he’s batting at. Otherwise, you’d have him at four, especially in a run-chase like that. It’s pathetic that the West Indies underuse him like we have underused Tim David in the past, but they’re slowly moving him up behind Maxwell,” the 59-year-old added.

Australia’s top order batsman Glenn Maxwell was in a raging mode last night when he smacked his 5th T20I century off 50 balls in the 2nd of a 3-match T20I series against the West Indies on home soil. After the match while speaking in a press conference, Maxwell opened up about the night that got him hospitalized due to excessive partying and alcohol.

Glenn Maxwell revealed that his family, especially his parents were extremely affected by that incident and that they were taken aback after getting to know that their son had been hospitalized on the 22nd of last month. That news went viral right after it was broken by the Australian media.

Questions were being constantly raised about his off-the-field activities and that Cricket Australia should be monitoring him to avoid such incidents in the future. Aussie captain Pat Cummins and head coach Andrew McDonald reportedly had a word with Maxwell following the incident and just asked him to keep his behavior and social activities in check.

When the reporters asked Glenn Maxwell to speak about the incident in detail yesterday during the press conference in the Optus Stadium at Adelaide, the right-hand explosive batter claimed that he knew he had an entire week off cricket and he just wanted to unwind for a bit but he didn’t know if the party will eventually take him to a hospital, in short he feels embarrassed 0f what transpired with him that night.

“I think probably it affected my family a little bit more than it affected me. I knew I had that week off. And obviously that incident was less than ideal, and the timing was. But I had that week off, I knew I had that week off away from the game.” – Maxwell said in a press conference at Adelaide.

Upon his return from his short setback, the 35-year-old scored just 10 runs in the 1st T20I against the West Indies in Brisbane in the 2nd T20 which took place yesterday, Glenn Maxwell brought out his vintage self and justified his nickname – the Big Show yet again.

Maxwell scored a record-equaling 5th century in the shortest format and he is now level with India captain Rohit Sharma in terms of most T20I centuries. He played out a man-of-the-match winning knock of 120* off 55 balls in Adelaide and scored most of Australia’s 1st inning total of 241, which they successfully defended through efficient contributions from Jason Behrendorff, Josh Hazlewood, Spencer Johnson, Adam Zampa and Marcus Stoinis.

Glenn Maxwell then went on to reveal his plans and how he is keeping himself fit ahead of Australia’s tour of New Zealand, the IPL, and then the T20 World Cup in June. The big hitter stated after he was discharged from the hospital, he felt very great about getting back to a disciplined life and says he’s ready for the things to come.

“It felt really good and refreshed once I got back. And it’s all been focused on getting myself ready for this series and what’s to come. We know we have got four international games until the (T20) World Cup and how it comes around pretty quick. And I just try to make sure I’m in as good a space that I can be for that tournament.” – Maxwell concluded.

A bizarre incident took place during the second T20I between Australia and West Indies at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday (February 12). The hosts were denied a run-out for not appealing during the closing stages of the game.

The incident took place in the 19th over of West Indies’ innings when the match was very much in Australia’s favor. The tourists needed an improbable 53 runs in the last two overs with just 1 wicket in hand. On the third ball of the over bowled by left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson, Alzarri Joseph hit the ball towards the cover region and ran for a single.

Mitchell Marsh quickly collected the ball and threw it at the non-striker’s end where Johnson took the bails off. The Australian fielders, however, seemingly assumed that Joseph was already inside the crease when Johnson broke the stump and decided against appealing for a run-out. The replay was then shown on the big screen and the Australian players started celebrating but their joy was cut short by umpire Gerard Abood.

The on-field umpire was heard telling the TV umpire ‘No appeal’ and stood by his decision. Marsh and his teammates were seen gathering around the umpire who was heard telling them: “Stop, stop, stop…there was no appeal.”

The players were heard expressing their frustration but it did not make much of a difference as Abood made it clear that Joseph would not be adjudged out since there was no appeal for a runout.

“Can we get on with the game, guys…guys we are getting into real poor territory,” the umpire told the players.

Talking about the rules, law 31.3, the timing of appeals, states: “For an appeal to be valid, it must be made before the bowler begins his/her run-up or, if there is no run-up, his/her bowling action to deliver the next ball, and before Time has been called.”

Australia thrash West Indies:

While Australia were denied the runout, they went on to register an easy win. The home side thrashed the visitors by 34 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Batting first, the hosts piled up 241/4 in the allotted 20 overs thanks to an unbeaten century from Glenn Maxwell. In reply, West Indies finished on 207/9.

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell opened up about his 5th T20I ton that came in the second game of the ongoing three-match series against West Indies. He said that his parents were in the stands and he was delighted to end the Adelaide curse.

Glenn Maxwell lit up the Adelaide Oval on Sunday (11th February) as he played a blinder that forged Australia to win in the second T20I against West Indies. The all-rounder, who doesn’t possess a great record in Adelaide, made sure he ended the jinx.

Glenn Maxwell entertained the crowd big time and played some unbelievable shots in his innings. He oozed his class and made his parents proud with his stupendous innings. The right-hander was at his hitting best and brought up another T20I century.

Glenn Maxwell registered his century in just 50 balls and equaled Rohit Sharma‘s record for most tons in the T20Is. He ended with the knock of an unbeaten 120 runs off 55 balls to go with 12 fours and 8 sixes, batting with a strike rate of over 218.

Glenn Maxwell recalled how he injured himself last time when he played in Adelaide. He expressed his delight with his innings, saying that he feels nice to be making this outing as positive. Speaking to broadcasters, he explained:

“I got my parents here as well. So, um, had a few cursed Adelaide trips, Uh, with them coming over a couple of times. So I got injured. I think I broke my leg the last time they tried to come over to Adelaide. So, um, it’s nice to make this a positive one.”

Glenn Maxwell’s comments on Adelaide came in the wake of his recent hospitalization. The all-rounder spent a night in the hospital after he passed out while drinking with his friends.

I’ve relied on my hand speed to sort of get me out of trouble – Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell further talked about his batting, saying that he wanted to make the most of this opportunity. He revealed that he wanted to stay at the crease for as possible. He expressed:

“You think in your in your brain that you’ve actually probably got to make the most of this opportunity. You don’t get too many of them like in a T20 career when you’ve got a couple like a couple of short square boundaries and the wickets really nice and true. So I just try to stick it out there for as long as I could.”

While talking about his technique, Glenn Maxwell said that he is dependent on his hand to get out of trouble when his footwork is slow. He elaborated:

“I’ve, relied on my hand speed to sort of get me out of trouble if my foot works a little bit slow. So I sort of just trying to give myself the best chance to use my hands to guide into a gap and get over the infield.”

Glenn Maxwell will now be seen in action when Australia take on West Indies in the third T20I on 13th February.

Australia were able to win the second T20I against West Indies by 34 runs and also took an unassailable lead in the two-match series. A bizarre incident took place during the 19th over of the West Indies innings.

On the 3rd ball of the 19th over when Alzarri Joseph drilled a fullish-length delivery from Spencer Johnson towards the off-side for a single, he was well short of his crease and was clearly run out.

However, during the whole scenario, Alzarri Joseph wasn’t given out as none of the Australian players appealed for the runout. All the Australian teammates were celebrating, however, the onfield umpire said that the home side have not appealed due to which the batsman was considered not out. Fielder Tim David insisted that he had appealed but at last, Joseph was safe despite not making it to his crease on the other end.

As per the MCC rule book, a batsman can be run out whenever the opposition team appeals for it. The umpire has to give his decision of out or not out. However, if the opposition team doesn’t appeal the umpire decides as if the batsman is out or not out. He can also signal it as a dead ball if there is no appeal from the opposition team.

Watch: Bizarre incident takes place in Adelaide during Australia vs West Indies 2nd T20I

Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell was the star of the show in the second AUS vs WI T20I match. Maxwell slammed a brilliant century and played an innings of 120 runs from 55 balls, which included 12 fours and 8 sixes. Maxwell batted with a strike rate of over 218 and helped Australia put up a score of 241/4.

David Warner and Mitchell Marsh played innings of 22 and 29 runs respectively whereas Tim David proved the finish and was unbeaten on 31 runs.

While chasing down the target, apart from captain Rovman Powell no other West Indies batsman was able to stay at the crease for long and were dismissed cheaply. Powell played an innings of 63 runs from 36 balls and slammed 5 fours and 4 sixes during his stay at the crease. Andre Russell was the second-highest run scorer of the West Indies innings and played a cameo of 37 runs from 16 balls.

West Indies were able to level the two-match Test series against Australia by 1-1 as they achieved a historic victory during the second Test by seven runs. However, West Indies didn’t have a decent outing in the three-match ODI series and they suffered a whitewash by 3-0. The Men In Maroon also lost the first T20I match by 11 runs and now they have also lost the T20I series.

The third T20I match of the series will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth on February 13, 2024. West Indies would be hoping to end the series on a winning note and also avoid a whitewash.

After a thrilling win in the first game in Sydney, Australia hosted West Indies in the second T20I match of the three-match series. The game between the two teams took place at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in the second T20I against West Indies. They didn’t have a great start to their innings as they lost Josh Inglis in the second over of the game. The keeper-batter perished for 4 runs off 6 balls.

David Warner (22) and Mitchell Marsh (29) then took the attack to the West Indies bowlers and made sure they brought Australia back into the game. The duo smashed bowlers all over the park and together added 43 runs for the second wicket.

But after that West Indies made a slight comeback and left Australia tumbling at 64/3. However, after that, it was Glenn Maxwell’s show. The batter wreaked havoc across the opposition’s bowling lineup and made them look clueless with his brutal power hitting.

Marcus Stoinis (16) and Tim David (31*) played handy knocks as well. But the real hero was Glenn Maxwell. The all-rounder slammed a sensational century, his 5th in T20I, and helped Australia post a gigantic total on the board, which at one stage didn’t look possible.

Glenn Maxwell ended with the knock of an unbeaten 120 runs off 55 balls. The batter had a strike rate of over 218 and also hit 12 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. His innings helped Australia post a total of 241 runs in their 20 overs.

For West Indies, Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 2/42. Apart from him, Alzarri Joesph and Romario Shepherd also picked one wicket each.

West Indies weren’t off to a good start with the bat. Brandon King (5) perished early. Johnson Charles (24) and Nichols Pooran (18) then hit some lusty blows and added 31 runs in 16 balls. However, they couldn’t continue the start they got and perished at crucial junctures of the game.

Australian bowlers then chipped in with quick wickets and put West Indies under immense pressure. The visitors were reduced to 63/5. It was then that Andre Russell did the carnage and brought his team back into the game with his brutal power-hitting.

Andre Russell slammed 37 runs in just 16 balls and helped West Indies go past 100 runs with ease. But Marcus Stoinis got the better of him as he perished in the 11th over of the innings. Skipper Rovman Powell then led from the front and kept his team in the hunt.

He blasted a magnificent half-century and kept the hopes of fans alive. He ended with an inning of 63 runs. But Adam Zampa brought his team back into the game by removing the West Indies skipper. Jason Holder also played a vital role in the end but fell short of partners at the other. He scored 28* runs as West Indies fell short of 34 runs.

For Australia, Marcus Stoinis picked three wickets whereas Spencer Johnson and Josh Hazelwood bagged two scalps. Jason Behrendorff and Adam Zampa also contributed.

Brief Scores
Australia: 241-4 (Glenn Maxwell 120*; Jason Holder 2/42)
West Indies: 207-9 (Rovman Powell 63; Marcus Stoinis 3/36)

Australia’s star batter Glenn Maxwell reminded everyone why he is known as the big show of international cricket as he smacked a fantastic century off 50 balls to equal the record of Rohit Sharma’s tally of most centuries in the shortest format.

One of the moments to savor came during the 2nd ball of the 13th over when Maxwell played his world-famous switch hit to score a six off West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hossein.

Watch Here:

Glenn Maxwell was absolutely raging tonight and played out one of his finest knocks in white ball cricket. His bat remained a bit quiet in the 1st T20I at the Blundstone arena in Brisbane as he departed for a score of just 10 runs off 8 deliveries.

His quietness did not cost Australia that much as veteran opener David Warner was in beast mode, amassing 70 runs off just 36 balls at a strike rate of over 190. His knock was complimented by Josh Inglis’ 39 off 25, Tim David’s quickfire 37 off 17, and Matthew Wade’s finishing touch 21 off 14.

That helped the home team set up a target of 213 for the West Indies who were coming on the back of a 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series which took place right after the visitors defeated Australia at Gabba to level the 2-match Frank Worell trophy Test series.

In response, Rovman Powell’s side got off to a blistering start, given by openers Brandon King and Johnson Charles. The duo amassed an 89-run partnership before King’s departure for 53 off 37. Then the following batters – Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Shai Hope, Andre Russell, and Sherfane Rutherford all departed cheaply.

Number 10 batter Jason Holder provided some late blows but it was very late by then as Australia claimed the victory by 11 runs with Adam Zampa picking the most number of wickets – 3. David Warner was adjudged the man of the match for his 70-run knock.

And Glenn Maxwell’s blistering knock earlier today set up the stage for Australia to complete another victory to seal the series at the Optus Stadium in Adelaide. After this series, the Aussies will fly over to New Zealand to feature in a 3-match T20I series and a 2-match Test series for their next assignment in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

The series will be kicking off on 21st February with the T20I series which will also be both the team’s final breeding ground to prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies which starts from June 1 onwards.

Glenn Maxwell Equals Rohit Sharma’s Record And Smacks His 4th Century Out Of Last 9 White-Ball Innings

Glenn Maxwell’s 50-ball century has now helped him become just the 2nd batter after Indian captain Rohit Sharma to score 5 T20I centuries. His battering knock included 12 fours and 8 sixes at a crazy strike rate of 214 and played a major role in the home team’s successful setup of 242 runs as the target.

With his 55-ball 120, Glenn Maxwell has now scored his 4th century in his last 9 white-ball innings for Australia including the ODIs. He has had scores of 106, 41, 201*, 1, 2*, 12, 104*, 10, 120*.

Glenn Maxwell wreaked havoc in Adelaide during the second T20I against the West Indies as he equaled Rohit Sharma’s record of the most number of centuries in T20Is.

He smashed his fifth T20I century scoring 120* off just 55 deliveries which included 12 fours and eight sixes. Maxwell batted at a strike rate of 218.18 and thrashed every bowler he faced. He was at his destructive best and helped Australia to post a mammoth 241/4 on the board and now West Indies needs to chase 242 to save themselves from a series defeat in the three-match T20Is

West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first only for Australia to bang them all over the ground and set a target of 242 for them in the second T20I. Glenn Maxwell was duly supported in his onslaught by Tim David who smashed 31 off just 14 deliveries with two fours and two sixes in his innings. The two of them added 95 runs for the fifth wicket and helped Australia to go past 240 in this contest against West Indies.

Glenn Maxwell has now equalled Rohit Sharma in terms of centuries in T20Is as both of them have now smashed five centuries in the shortest format in international cricket. Rohit Sharma smashed his fifth century against Afghanistan recently in the T20I series and now Glenn Maxwell has scored his fifth century against West Indies. Glenn Maxwell reached his century in just 50 balls. He has been one of the most destructive batters in world cricket right now and he is proving his worth in the ongoing T20I series.

He suffered from a fall after enjoying too much with his friends in a pub recently and was hospitalised. Maxwell was sore and embarrassed about the incident but he was determined that he would make up for it with his game and he smashed a brilliant ton against West Indies which will be etched in the history of T20Is.

Glenn Maxwell Equals Rohit Sharma’s Record In Fewer Innings

Most Hundreds in T20I:

Glenn Maxwell – 5* (94 innings)

Rohit Sharma – 5 (143 innings)

Glenn Maxwell took only 94 innings to reach five T20I centuries whereas Rohit Sharma took 143 innings to get to five centuries in the shortest format. The Indian skipper also has 29 half-centuries in T20Is whereas Glenn Maxwell has 10 half-centuries in T20Is. The Australian all-rounder has more centuries in the shortest format than in ODIs where he has only four centuries which also includes a double hundred against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Australia is currently in a very strong position and is highly likely to win the series by beating West Indies in this game as a target of 242 is far-fetched for this West Indies line-up. Australia won the first T20I by 11 runs and now they are ahead in the second T20I which is being played at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. The third T20I of the series will be played in Perth and West Indies will definitely hope to win the last match in this tour to end on a positive note.

Australian opener David Warner has been in staggering touch in the T20Is. The batter has shown glimpses of that in the ongoing second T20I against West Indies. The second game of the series between the teams is taking place at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.

Australia opted to bat first in the second match and it wasn’t a surprise that David Warner took them off the flier. The opening batter looked in a destroying mood right from the start and with the way he got off the mark made many stand and applaud him.

David Warner brought out an outrageous reverse sweep shot for six on the second ball of the innings. West Indies handed the responsibility to Akeal Hosein to bowl the first over of the innings but he wasn’t treated kindly by the Australian opener in Adelaide.

Akeal Hosein bowled a short ball to which David Warner premeditated it. He reversed sweep the ball over short third man for a six. It was more like a switch hit and it surprised the bowler as he didn’t expect the batter to play such a shot on the second ball itself.

Here’s the video:

David Warner right after that slammed a four and hit 10 runs in the first over. He played some crisp shots in his innings and made sure he put pressure on West Indies bowlers right from the start. He looked completely in control till the time he was batting.

With the way he was batting, it was expected that David Warner would end up with a big total. But he perished after a valiant start. The batter perished to Romario Shepherd in the 7th over as he attempted to play a big shot but was caught.

Romario Shepherd bowled a slower delivery to which David Warner lofted it towards mid-off. Sherfane Rutherford, who was stationed there moved across and took a safe catch. The batter ended with the knock of 22 runs off 19 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 115.79 and also slammed 3 fours and 1 six in his innings.

David Warner won Player of the Match in his 100th T20I

David Warner kickstarted the T20I series against West Indies on a high note. The batter played a sensational innings in the first match and helped his team win the game. In what was his 100th T20I, he made sure he set the stage on fire and made the occasion special.

David Warner slammed 70 runs off 36 balls and batted with a strike rate of around 195. He hit 12 fours and 1 six in his innings that powered Australia to a big total of 213 runs and subsequently won the game by the margin of 11 runs.

For his heroics, David Warner won the player of the match and also opened up about his innings. He said that he is pumped for the T20 World Cup 2024 and wants to play freely for the team. He had said:

“Pleasing to get the win on the board. Was a nice wicket to bat on and you have to make the most of those. Feel great and refreshed, I’m pumped. I want to play the T20 World Cup and it’s a good journey we’ve got going for the next 6 months. Pretty much the same squad going to New Zealand so it’s important we win there as well,” he concluded.

Fans on Twitter reacted after Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell slammed a brutal ton in the ongoing second T20I against West Indies. The second match of the three-match series between the teams is taking place at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.

Glenn Maxwell oozed his class in the ongoing game and made sure that he set the stage on fire. The batter came to bat when Australia lost early wickets and were tumbling at 64/3. The right-hander took charge and played and put his team in a dominating position.

Glenn Maxwell was at his exceptional best as he smashed the bowlers all over the park. The batter brought out his 360-degree best and made a mockery of the West Indies bowlers. The all-rounder made sure he left an impact right from the start.

Glenn Maxwell didn’t take time to settle at all. He took attack to the bowlers and brought up his 5th T20I ton. The right-hander registered his century in just 50 balls and helped his team post a big total on the board, in what is a virtual series decider.

Glenn Maxwell ended with the knock of an unbeaten 120 runs off 55 balls. The batter had a strike rate of over 218 and also hit 12 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. With his century, he also equaled Rohit Sharma‘s record of most centuries in T20Is, having hit 5 in his career now.

Glenn Maxwell’s innings helped Australia post a total of over 200 runs, which at one moment didn’t seem possible. Thanks to his valiant innings, the hosts ended with a total of 241 runs in their 20 overs. The all-rounder is now expected to play a huge role with the ball as well and help his team seal the game and series as well.

It was the ‘big show’ Glenn Maxwell, who was the highlight of the Australian innings during the second T20I match against West Indies. Maxwell slammed a brilliant century and once again proved why he is known to be one of the best hitters in the modern-day era. Maxwell played an innings of 120 runs from 55 balls and smashed a total of 12 fours and 8 sixes throughout his innings.

Glenn Maxwell smoked a 109-meter six against opponent pacer Alzarri Joseph. On the second ball of the 12th over, Maxwell cleared his front leg and smashed the ball towards the mid-wicket region. The ball went a long way back in the stands whereas the speed of the ball was around 144.2 kmph.

Watch – Glenn Maxwell smashes a 109-m monster against Alzarri Joseph

Courtesy of Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten century, Australia could put up a first-innings score of 241/4. The Aussies didn’t start well with the bat as they lost Josh Inglis for 4 runs. David Warner also was not able to do much and got out for 22 runs from 19 balls. Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh walked back to the dressing room for 29 runs from 12 balls. While the wickets kept on falling from one end, Maxwell took charge from the other end and continued to hit and smashed the West Indies pacers to all parts of the ground.

Marcus Stoinis got out for 16 runs whereas Tim David remained unbeaten on 31 runs from 14 balls and smashed 2 fours and 2 sixes. At last, Australia were able to put up a humongous target of 242 runs against the West Indies.

Glenn Maxwell also gave an example of his big-hitting during the ODI World Cup 2023 as well. Maxwell scored a brilliant double-hundred against Afghanistan during the round-robin match of the tournament when the Aussies were almost on the verge of losing the match.

With seven wickets down under 150 runs and 290 odd runs needed to win, Maxwell began to smash sixes against the Afghani bowlers and despite being cramped, he played one of the best innings of his international career and smashed a brave double hundred.

Glenn Maxwell will prove to be a very lethal player for the opposition in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. In the kind of form the right-handed batsman has been in for the last few months, he will surely be among the top run scorers of the biggest T20I competition in international cricket and can also help Australia win the T20 World Cup after 2021.

Getting back to the West Indies tour of Australia, the Men In Maroon were able to level the Test series by 1-1, whereas they had a poor outing in the three-match ODI series and faced a whitewash against the Kangaroos. West Indies showcased decent batting during the first T20I match of the series and just ended up losing the match by 11 runs while chasing down over 210 runs.

With the kind of batting lineup, West Indies, they cannot be considered out of the match whereas the Australian bowling attack is also a bit inexperienced and no other bowler other than Josh Hazlewood has much experience of bowling in international cricket.

Like Australia, the Caribbean side also witnessed a blistering start. Openers Brandon King (53) and Johnson Charles (42) shattered quickfire knocks to power the scoreboard to 80-plus runs till the 8th over. However, once the openers lost their wickets, West Indies faced a mini-batting collapse.

In a terrible incident in the West Indies domestic cricket championship match between Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana, a day’s play was called off as the cows damaged a part of the cricket field. Trinidad & Tobago Red Force were taking on Guyana Happy Eagles in a four-day match at the Conaree Sports Club in Conaree. However, the match was called off on Day 2 after cows came to the field overnight and also damaged the major part of the pitch and ground.

This is not the first time a cricket match has been affected due to the weirdest of reasons. An ODI match between India and New Zealand was disturbed due to the light of the sun. The light of the setting sun was affecting the vision of the batsman. A Test match between India and Sri Lanka in New Delhi was halted due to poor air quality whereas there have also been incidents when the match has not been held due to the malfunction of the floodlights.

Cows become the reason behind match suspension in West Indies

During a Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa, the play was delayed for the second session on Day 2 due to the delay in food for the visitors.

However, the most horrible incident took place in the 1996 ODI World Cup semi-final match between India and Sri Lanka when the match was suspended as the crowd at Eden Gardens started to throw bottles at the players on the ground. Eyeing the security of the players the match was called off and Sri Lanka ended up winning the match.

Talking about the West Indies, they recently were able to level the two-match Test series by 1-1 and defeated Australia in Brisbane. It was West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph who shined in the team’s win and bagged a total of seven wickets in the second innings and also was the leading wicket-taker of the series.

Shamar Joseph also earned the reward for his brilliant performance and he was picked up by the Peshawar Zalmi in the replacement draft for the Pakistan Super League 2024. Shamar will also play for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2024 as a replacement for Mark Wood.

Shamar Joseph will get a lot of exposure in the IPL as he will play with some of the modern greats which will help him polish his skills.

In the last few years, cricket in the West Indies has only declined as they were not able to qualify for the main round of the ODI World Cup 2023 after losing in the qualifiers.

The players have shown more interest in playing in T20 leagues rather than representing the national side for the sake of more money. However, with the likes of Shamar Joseph, the West Indies can once again make an international comeback and also dominate the world cricket like they used to do before during the 1970s to 1990s.

Australian opener David Warner has confirmed that he will retire from international cricket after the T20 World Cup 2024. David Warner has already retired from Test and ODI cricket but is still playing T20I cricket.

David Warner scored 70 off 36 balls on his return to T20I cricket. In the meantime, he was playing in the ILT20, leading Dubai Capitals. He played his 100 T20I and in the process, became the only third Australian cricket to achieve the feat. He joins Aaron Finch (103) and Glenn Maxwell (100) to achieve the incredible feat.

Australia scored a mammoth 213/7 on the back of the good start given by David Warner. He scored 70 off just 36 balls at a strike rate of 194.44. Josh Inglis (37), Tim David (39) and Matthew Wade (21) played key knocks as well.

West Indies in response scored 202/8 and lost the match by 11 runs. Brandon King (53) and Johnson Charles (42) added 89 for the first wicket. However, since then there was no substantial partnership that helped the cause of the West Indies.

Warner on his 100th T20I looked the Warner of old with his splendid strokeplay. He started out as someone who was made for T20I cricket and adapted beautifully to the other formats. He played his last ODI which the World Cup final against India. He played his last Test match at his home ground in Sydney. The southpaw is all set to now retire from international cricket after the T20 World Cup.

Want To Play The T20 World Cup And Finish There: David Warner

“Pleasing to get the win on the board. Was a nice wicket to bat on and you have to make the most of those. Feel great and refreshed, I’m pumped. I want to play the T20 World Cup and finish there and it’s a good journey we’ve got going for the next 6 months. Pretty much the same squad going to New Zealand so it’s important we win there as well,” Warner said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

With the ball, Adam Zampa picked up three wickets while Jason Behrendorff, Glenn Maxwell, and Sean Abbott took a wicket each while Marcus Stonis took two to not allow the Windies to get past in their chase.

It was Australia’s 10th T20I win against West Indies in 20 T20Is with West Indies winning 10 as well. The visitors leveled the Test series 1-1 and were whitewashed in the ODI series. They were bowled out for just 86 runs in the final ODI giving a glimpse of their vulnerability in the format. Skipper Rovman Powel reacted to the first T20I loss saying that the lack of partnerships is why they ended up losing the game.

“We struggled to get partnerships in the middle, good game of cricket in the end though. Need to back ourselves a little bit more. I think the guys did well, just in the middle overs we lost a little bit. (About bowling himself more) When you have set batters and a difficult wicket, it’s difficult to bowl back to back overs so I brought on my strike bowler after we got a wicket. Was a nice atmosphere to play in” said Powell after the loss.

David Warner struck to form as he scored 70 off just 36 balls in the first T20I against West Indies in Hobart. He scored those runs at a strike rate of 194.44, helping his team to post a mammoth score of 213/7.

West Indies in their chase fell short by 11 runs as they finished on 202/8. Warner for his quickfire knock of 70 was awarded the Man of the Match. He announced his retirement from ODI and Test cricket after the World Cup but is still playing T20I cricket.

Jake Fraser-McGurk made his ODI debut in the series against West Indies. He scored a rapid 41 off 18 against West Indies in the 3rd and final ODI of the series. Fraser-McGurk holds the record for the fastest limited-over century in 29 balls which he achieved during the Marsh Cup match against Tasmania. Fraser-McGurk had broken the previous record of 31 balls achieved by AB de Villiers in 2015 against West Indies.

He has A Clear Mind, Plays With Freedom: David Warner On Jake Fraser-McGurk

Talking during the match David Warner spoke about the young 21-year-old’s potential to replace him in white-ball cricket. Playing in his 100th T20I match, Warner spoke to the broadcast team during the second innings of the match and said that Fraser-McGurk brought a fresh and brave approach to batting.

“He thinks that he can hit every ball for a four or a six. He has a clear mind, he plays with freedom and you need people like that in every team. He is great to have in the team,” David Warner told the broadcasters.

McGurk recently played in the ILT20 at Dubai Capitals under David Warner’s captaincy. He played a few splendid knocks in the tournament as well before returning back for national commitments.

“The more exposure he gets at the highest level, if he gets an opportunity in the ODI team he can certainly be a 10-year-player. He will go a long way if he can back himself, he certainly has the skillset for that,” Warner concluded.

After the dominant performance in the ODI series, which the hosts won by the margin of 3-0, Australia hosted West Indies in the first T20I of the three-match series. The series opener match between the two teams took place at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

Australia were asked to bat first and they were off the flying start with the bat. Veteran David Warner lit the stage on fire in his 100th T20I game and slammed a magnificent half-century in the top. He showed signs of vintage Warner and played breathtaking shots.

Along with him, Jos Inglis (39) played a vital hand at the top. The duo added 96 runs for the opening partnership and set the tone for the team. However, big guns in Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis couldn’t cash on the start provided by the openers.

Marsh managed 16 runs whereas Maxwell and Stoinis added 10 and 9 runs respectively. Australia was reduced to 159/5 as West Indies made a solid comeback after a staggering opening partnership between Warner and Inglis.

But in the end, Tim David (37*) and Matthew Wade (21) played vital cameos in the end. The duo stitched 50 runs together and made sure that Australia finished the innings on high. Based on the rollicking effort at the end, the hosts ended with a total of 213 runs on the board.

For West Indies, Andre Russell was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with the figures of 3/42. Alzarri Joesph also claimed two wickets whereas Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd also bagged one wicket each.

In the chase, the West Indies were off the flying start. Openers Brandon King and Johnsom Charles played sensationally well at the top and put Australian bowlers under pressure. They added 89 runs for the opening partnership which put visitors in the dominating position.

While Brandon King added 53 runs, Johnson Charles ended with the knock of 42 runs. They, however, lost wickets after the start. No other batters could get going after that Australia bowlers kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals and brought their team back in the game.

Nichols Pooran (18 ) Rovman Powell (14) and Shai Hope (16) had starts but Australian bowlers made sure that they didn’t let them settle at all. It was expected that Andre Russell would take his team home but he fell early and West Indies were reduced to 163/8.

Jason Holder (33*) and Akeal Hossain (7*) tried to take the team home but the target was too much in the end. Australia won the game by the margin of 11 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series. Adam Zampa picked three wickets whereas Marcus Stoinis bagged two scalps. Apart from them, Glenn Maxwell and Sean Abbott also chipped in and picked one wicket each to help the team win the game.

West Indies had a shabby day at the field during the first T20I against Australia at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. They won the toss and invited Australia to bat first but the decision severely backfired as David Warner and Josh Inglis added 93 runs for the opening wicket and then in the end Tim David finished the innings in some style as he scored 37 off just 17 deliveries with four boundaries and two sixes. David Warner on the other hand gave a perfect start as he smashed 70 off 36 deliveries in the match.

West Indies were terrible with their fielding in this match as they missed silly catches and fielding opportunities. Australia took all the benefits of their terrible fielding and scored 213 against the West Indies in the ongoing first Test. During the 19th over of the Australian innings, Tim David mistimed a ball that went in between the deep mid-wicket and deep square leg and both the fielders were stranded looking at each other not even attempting for the catch that could have been an easy dismissal.

Alzarri Joseph who was bowling the 19th over was livid with his team’s poor fielding and gave a long death stare to the fielders on deep mid-wicket and deep square-leg. West Indies dropped a lot of opportunities in the field today and faced a lot of problems because of their poor fielding today and as a result, they received a thrashing from the Aussie batters.

Australia posted 213/6 in their innings as David Warner smashed 70 off 36 deliveries with 12 boundaries and a six to his name. He becomes the first Australian to represent his nation in 100+ matches in all three formats and also the first batter to score a fifty-plus in his 100th Test, ODI, and T20I appearance. However, Tim David’s cameo hurt West Indies the most and his catch miss during the 19th over was bizarre.

Watch- Alzarri Joseph Giving A Death Stare To West Indies Fielders Over Their Timid Approach In The Field

West Indies is coming into this T20I series after suffering a whitewash against Australia in the ODIs where they were defeated 3-0 by the ODI World Champions. The two-match Test series between the two teams ended in a draw of 1-1 as the Caribbeans pulled off a sensational victory at the Gabba in Brisbane and defeated Australia after 27 years in Australia in a Test match. Shamar Joseph was the star in that game for West Indies as he took seven wickets in the second innings of Australia.

Shamar Joseph was not included in the ODI and T20I squad due to workload issues. He bowled in the second Test with an injured toe and as a fitness concern, he was not included in the ODI and T20I series. Australia is cruising towards victory in the first T20I which is being played in Hobart. The Aussies have been a dominant force in cricket and they are playing like one against the Men in Maroon.

David Warner wreaked havoc against West Indies in the ongoing first T20I of the three-match series. The first T20I is being played at Bellerive Oval in Hobart and Australia posted a massive total of 213/7 after West Indies invited them to bat first. Australian openers David Warner and Josh Inglis stitched 93 runs for the opening partnership and David Warner was the star for Australia as the veteran smashed 70 off 36 deliveries with 12 fours and a six.

David Warner became the first Australian to represent his nation 100 times in all three formats. He has played 112 Tests, 161 ODIs, and now 100 T20Is. The veteran opener recently announced his Test and ODI retirement after he played his last Test at the SCG against Pakistan. He had a stellar Test and ODI career for Australia winning the ODI World Cup twice with his nation and also the World Test Championship title in 2023.

David Warner smashed his 25th half-century in the shortest format for Australia and was brilliant in his innings against West Indies who had a terrible day on the field. He became the third Australian player to play 100 or more T20I matches; the first two being former skipper Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell who have achieved this feat for Australia.

With this half-century, David Warner achieved another unique feat that no other cricketer in the world has achieved before. David Warner becomes the first player to play a fifty-plus innings on his 100th appearance in each of the three formats. He scored a double century against South Africa on his 100th Test at the MCG where he scored 200 off 275 deliveries. Warner also scored a century against India in his 100th ODI match at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He scored 124 off 119 balls in his 100th ODI match against India.

David Warner Becomes First Player To Register 50+ Scores In His 100th Match In All Three Formats

Australia have given a massive target of 214 to the West Indies in the first T20I and it will be a tough ask for the West Indies who have struggled in white-ball cricket recently. David Warner and Tim David starred with the bat for the Aussies as the former provided a fiery start while the latter gave a smoky finish to the innings and gave a target of 214 to the West Indies.

The first T20I between the two sides is being played in Hobart whereas the other two T20Is are scheduled for Adelaide and Perth on February 11 and 13 respectively. Australia won the ODI series whitewashing the West Indies by 3-0. The Test series ended up drawn at 1-1 after West Indies pulled off a historic win at the Gabba in Brisbane. The three-match T20I series is going on and the West Indies is chasing a massive target currently and the openers have given a perfect start as they have crossed the 80-run mark in just seven overs without losing a wicket.

David Warner has achieved a rare milestone in T20Is for Australia after arriving on the field in AUS vs WI 1st T20I. David Warner has become the only 3rd Australian player in history to play 100 T20Is for the team.

David Warner was named in the playing XI by captain Mitchell Marsh in Australia vs West Indies 1st T20I. The opening batter also gave a wonderful batting show in the match. The encounter takes place at Bellerive Oval Stadium in Hobart.

David Warner shares record with Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell

Other than David Warner, Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell are the only other Australian players to feature in at least 100 T20Is for Australia. Former Aussie skipper Aaron Finch played 103 T20I games during his career. All-rounder Glenn Maxwell has played 101 T20Is for Australia so far.

Interim Australia coach Daniel Vettori hailed David Warner for reaching the milestone during a presentation ahead of AUS vs WI 1st T20I. Vettori noted that many players have termed Warner as the greatest three-format player for Australia.

“It’s a testament to your skill and your fitness to be able to be here for such an extended period of time. I know that when you retired from Test matches, there was a lot of people outside the group and within the group say that you’re Australia’s greatest three-format player (and) playing your 100th game today is a culmination of that.” Vettori said.

David Warner, who has retired from ODIs and Tests, also became the only 3rd player in history to play 100 matches across all three formats. Former New Zealand batter Ross Taylor and Indian batter Virat Kohli are the only two other players to achieve this milestone in international cricket.

Warner announced his retirement from Tests and ODIs early this year after the three-match Test series against Pakistan. He featured in 112 matches in Tests and 161 games in ODIs. With 2964 runs in T20Is, Warner is Australia’s second-highest run-getter for Australia in the shortest format after Aaron Finch (3120).

Striking the ball at 194+, he shattered 12 fours and 1 six during his knock. He also etched an opening stand of 93 runs with Inglis, who added 39 off 25.

Former West Indies captain Daren Sammy expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to clinch victory in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Daren Sammy highlighted the West Indies’ potential to become the first team to win the T20 tournament on home soil.

Daren Sammy captained the team across formats and guided them to T20 World Cup victories in 2012 and 2016. During his illustrious career, Sammy featured in 38 Tests, 126 ODIs, and 68 T20Is, amassing 3781 runs and taking 209 wickets for the Caribbean side.

We Didn’t Lose A T20 Series In 2023 – Daren Sammy

Speaking ahead of the West Indies’ first T20I against Australia, Daren Sammy highlighted the team’s unbeaten record in the T20 series throughout 2023. Sammy emphasized the growing confidence and momentum within the squad.

“The way we’ve progressed over the last year, we didn’t lose a T20 series in 2023, confidence is building, momentum is building. We all believe that we can become the first team to actually win the tournament at home, and that’s what we are working towards,” Sammy said.

The Caribbean cricket team maintained an unbeaten record in the T20 series throughout 2023. They secured a 2-1 victory in the T20I series against South Africa in away conditions. Additionally, the Windies team achieved series wins against India (3-2) and England (3-2) last year.

The highly anticipated 2024 T20 World Cup will take place in the United States of America and the Caribbean from June 1 to 29. The West Indies are grouped with New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea in Group C for the ICC T20 tournament.

They Will Not Be Short Of Cricket – Daren Sammy

Daren Sammy highlighted the exposure players receive through leagues like the IPL and PSL, contributing to their development and readiness for international competition.

“Our guys will not be playing international cricket, but they will not be short of cricket. So many leagues, (they) play in the IPL (Indian Premier League), the PSL (Pakistan Super League), and obviously playing (the World Cup) at home, it’s our conditions,” Sammy added.

I Expect To See A Different Attitude – Daren Sammy

The West Indies endured a disappointing 0-3 defeat in the recent ODI series against Australia. The visiting team struggled to pose a challenge to the dominant home side throughout the series. The Windies were outclassed by the Men in Yellow across all three matches.

Daren Sammy emphasized that the ODI series loss wouldn’t dampen the T20I team’s spirits. He expressed confidence in their ability to perform and secure victory in the upcoming series. Sammy anticipated a shift in attitude and a strong competitive spirit from the team.

“We’re not going to carry the ODI series to Hobart. It’s a fresh squad, a settled squad, more experience (and) guys who believe they are some of the best in the world to do it. I expect to see a different attitude, a different brand and we expect to come out there and compete and win,” Sammy further stated.

The AUS vs WI series moves on from the ODIs to the T20I series. The two teams play a three-match T20I series with the first T20I to be played on February 9 in Hobart. All three T20I start at 1.30 pm IST.

Australia clean swept West Indies in the AUS vs WI ODI series. They won the first ODI by 8 wickets, the second by 83 runs, and the third by 8 wickets. West Indies were bowled out for just 86 runs in the third ODI with Xavier Bartlett picking 4/21. Lance Morris and Azam Zampa picked two each. Australia chased down the score inside seven overs to notch up one of the fastest chases in ODI cricket in the modern era.

The AUS vs WI series now moves on to the T20I series with Windies T20 specialists all back and available for the series. Among the notable names are Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran who were playing in the ILT20 league.

ODI skipper Shai Hope is a part of the T20I side with Rovaman Powell leading the series. Jason Holder and Akeal Hosein are also back in the side while there is no place for Shimron Hetmyer. The Windies T20I side looks like a more experienced unit as opposed to their ODI squad.

Australia will be led in this AUS vs WI T20I series by Mitchell Marsh. David Warner returns to the T20I side after his commitments with Dubai Capitals in the ILT20. Tim David is also back from his stint at the SA20 for the MI Cape Town side. Marcus Stoinis is also back as is Matt Short who was ruled out of the third ODI against West Indies.

Australia are placed fourth in the ICC T20I rankings while West Indies is seventh. The table is led by India, New Zealand, and England as the top three teams. West Indies will be one of the hosts of the next T20 World Cup and hence they will make it a point to challenge the World Champions at their home ground in preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024.

There is a visible difference between the experiences of both sides. The two teams have played 149 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 19 T20Is, Australia have won 9 games while West Indies 10. When compared the current Windies side looks more experienced in the format than the Aussies given their experience of playing across various T20 leagues.

West Indies’ failure to qualify for the ODI World Cup last year is now a forgotten story as they are looking to beat Australia down under to start their T20 World Cup preparations. The three-time T20 World Cup Champions are all set to play in Hobart.

Former Australia skipper Aaron Finch has backed the idea of reducing ODI games to 40 overs. Aaron Finch also feels that reducing the ODI games will help weaker teams like West Indies to come closer against strong opponents.

The idea of reducing ODI games to 40 overs has gained popularity during the last two years. Especially after the popularity of T20I cricket and franchise T20I leagues, ODI games have turned into too long affairs to attract crowds and viewers.

However, the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 last year gained a lot of popularity and also witnessed higher viewership. However, compared to T20Is, ODIs have less popularity among fans as they are more time-consuming.

Aaron Finch backs 40-over ODI games

While speaking on ESPN Cricinfo, cricketer-turned-commentator Aaron Finch backed the idea of reducing ODIs to 40 overs. He said he would love to see that happening.

“I think it goes to 40 overs, I would love to see that. In England, they used to have the pro-40 and that was a huge competition. I think the game has gone too long, in my opinion”.

“The speed that the teams bowl their 50 overs is so slow, it’s down around 11 or 12 overs/hour and that is not acceptable. People will argue that maybe it is a glorified T20 game but it is about the crowds,” the 37-year-old said.

I am not quite sold on that for every series: Finch

Aaron Finch, who represented Australia in 146 ODIs, also feels that reducing the overs in ODIs will help weaker teams like West Indies to outplay powerful teams. He also noted that one-sided games will come closer if ODIs are reduced to 40 overs.

“I am not quite sold on that for every series. I think when you have got the big dogs all playing against each other, I still think the 50-over game’s electric, and the ebbs and flows are wonderful”.

“But when they are so one-sided, when you have got the West Indies… who are trying to fight their way back into the World Cup, they are so off the track, I think 40 overs might suit that type of series, it might bring them closer together,” said Aaron Finch, who played for Australia from 2011 to 2022.

West Indies were bowled out for 86 in recent ODI vs Australia

Notably, the recent Australia vs West Indies ODI series witnessed one-sided encounters across all three games. Australia managed to outplay the West Indies in all three games convincingly. The AUS vs WI 3rd ODI was quite a boring affair as West Indies were bowled out for just 86 runs in the match. Later, Australia comfortably chased down the target within 7 overs.

Last year, West Indies failed to qualify for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 to shock everyone. It was the first time that the two-time champions failed to qualify for the ICC event. In recent times, West Indies have showcased a brilliant form in T20Is and Tests. However, they still need to pull up their socks to become a dominating side in ODIs.

West Indies after losing the ODI series take on Australia in a three-match T20I series. The first T20I will be played in Hobart on Friday, February 9. All the matches start at 1.30 pm IST.

West Indies will look to come hard in a format that they love playing. All their T20 specialists are back for the three-match series. All of them were busy playing in the ILT20 league. The likes of Andre Russell, Jason Holder, and Nicholas Pooran are back with Rovman Powell leading the side.

In 19 T20Is, Australia have won 9 games while West Indies 10.

The debate among the players choosing club over country has been an age-old topic in West Indies cricket and the problem lies in many reasons other than cricket. In this article, we take a look at the likely West Indies XI playing XI for the first T20I against Australia.

Pooran will slot in at three. He is a destructive batter in the shortest format with a strike rate of 134.95. He recently led the MI Emirates in the ILT20 2024. He is approaching 2000 runs in the format.

The AUS vs WI T20I series kicks off with the first T20I in Hobart. The first T20I starts at 1.30 pm IST. All three matches start at 1.30 pm IST. Australia whitewashed the Windies in the three-match ODI series.

Australia won the first ODI by 8 wickets, the second by 83 runs, and the third by 10 wickets. The hosts bowled out the visitors for just 86 runs in the third ODI and won the match in 6.5 overs. The chase is amongst the quickest in ODI history.

The ODI series loss highlights the flaws within the Windies’ ODI setup along with how it is running. The T20I series sees the return of the T20I superstars in both camps and it evens up the contest. West Indies did not even qualify for the ODI World Cup last year. This highlights the problems the team has in terms of playing the 50-over format. This ODI series loss against the Aussies further highlights the dearth of good long-format players.

The two teams have played 146 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 19 T20Is, Australia have won 9 games while West Indies 10. The T20I series kicks off the preparations of both teams for the T20 World Cup 2024. West Indies is one of the two hosts of the tournament.

AUS vs WI Match Preview- 1st T20I, 2024

Australia

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh in the T20I series. He will replace regular white-ball skipper Pat Cummins who is rested for the series. Mitchell Starc too is rested from the T20I series. Nathan Ellis who has a rib injury will miss the series and he has been replaced by Spender Johnson. Matthew Short is also not available for the T20I series owing to an injury. Josh Hazlewood who was rested from the third ODI returns to the T20I side.

Australia have their T20I specialists available after they were busy playing in various T20 leagues. Warner has joined the team from the ILT20, while Tim David and Marcus Stoinis from the SA20. Glenn Maxwell who was rested from the ODI series has been recalled for the T20I series.

West Indies

West Indies have named a full-strength squad for the three-match AUS vs WI T20I series. The squad sees the return of the team’s T20 specialists. Rovman Powell will lead the side with the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, and Jason Holder back in the side. The trio was busy playing in the ILT20 2024. Among the bowlers, Akeal Hosein., Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Motie give them plenty of variety.

The real strength of West Indies lies in their big hitters Russell, Holder, and Powell. Cricket West Indies have decided to bench Shimron Hetmyer from this series. They have included ODI skipper Shai Hope in the squad as a backup wicketkeeper. Given that plenty of cricketers are fresh from a good domestic T20 season, West Indies are expected to challenge Australia in the T20I series.

West Indies were bowled out for 86 runs in the final ODI which was chased down inside seven overs by Australia. Jake Fraser-McGurk scored 41 in the chase while Josh Inglis scored an unbeaten 35 runs.

West Indies will be led by Rovman Powell. The squad sees the return of specialist players like Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran who were busy playing in the ILT20 league. David Warner was also playing in the ILT20 league for the Dubai Capitals. He too is back in the Australian T20I squad.

He recently won the BBL title with the Brisbane Heat.

The two teams have played 146 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 19 T20Is, Australia have won 9 games while West Indies 10. In 120 Test matches between the two sides, Australia have won 61 matches and West Indies 33.

West Indies do not have their experienced players who are busy playing T20 leagues around the world. Their ODI side is missing Nicholas Pooran, Jason Holder, Rovman Powell, and a certain Andre Russell and Sunil Narine who have not been a part of the ODI side for a few years now. Narine is also not a part of the T20I side having last played a T20I for the Windies back in 2019. Russell, on the other hand, is a part of the T20I side.

The AUS vs WI T20I series is a great opportunity for both sides to prepare themselves for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Windies have won the tournament twice while Australia once in 2021. West Indies are one of the hosts of the T20 World Cup 2024 and thus a T20I series win after an ODI series loss.

Mitchell Marsh Has Tested Positive For Covid-19 – Cricket Australia

Cricket Australia announced that Mitch Marsh has tested positive for Covid-19 but will play in the first match in line with CA protocols. Marsh will take precautionary measures such as using a separate dressing room and maintaining distance on the field during the game.

“Australia T20 skipper Mitch Marsh has tested positive for Covid-19 but will still play in tomorrow’s first T20 against the Windies in Hobart, in line with CA protocols. Marsh will use a separate dressing room during the match and stay distanced while on the field,” Cricket Australia released a statement.

Several members of the Australian team, including players like Travis Head, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, and Moises Henriques, as well as head coach Andrew McDonald, contracted the virus during the Australian summer, but their roles within the team remained unaffected.

Young all-rounder Cameron Green, who tested positive before the second Test against the West Indies, adhered to precautionary measures such as maintaining a distance during the national anthems and celebrating from afar to minimize the risk of spreading the virus.

Mitchell Marsh Likely To Lead Australia In T20 World Cup 2024

Mitchell Marsh has taken on the role of captain for the T20I team since Aaron Finch’s retirement. The all-rounder led the team against South Africa last year and will continue to do so in the forthcoming T20I matches against the West Indies and New Zealand.

These next six games will serve as Marsh’s trial period to potentially become the permanent T20 captain. Chief selector George Bailey stated that a decision on the full-time captaincy will be made following the conclusion of the three-match T20I series against New Zealand.

The all-rounder was honored with the prestigious Allan Border Medal by Cricket Australia at the awards ceremony on January 31. Marsh is poised to lead the team in the 2024 T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the Caribbean and the United States of America (USA).

The 32-year-old was instrumental in Australia’s victory at the T20 World Cup in 2021. He showcased his prowess with a remarkable innings of 77 not out off 50 deliveries during the final against New Zealand. His outstanding performance earned him Player of the Match.

Jake Fraser-McGurk made his international debut in the recent AUS vs WI ODI series. Although he failed to come up with a good show in his opening game, Jake Fraser-McGurk hampered a quickfire 41 runs in his next match in AUS vs WI 3rd ODI.

Jake Fraser-McGurk got also hit below his stomach in the match off Alzarri Joseph’s delivery. Later, he also showed his wounds on the camera and added that he got hit twice at the same spot. However, he didn’t carry on that much while batting.

After the ouster of David Warner with his retirement, Jake Fraser-McGurk grabbed the opening slot in the AUS vs WI ODI series. In the 3rd and final encounter, the right-handed batter shattered 18-ball-41. During his knock, he shattered 5 boundaries and 3 sixes to register a stunning strike rate of 227+.

Kjorn Ottley, Keacy Carty, Shai Hope, Teddy Bishop, and Romario Shepherd got out for single digits as West Indies even failed to cross 100 runs on the board.

Former Australia cricketer Mark Waugh called West Indies batter Kjorn Ottley an idiot during the third ODI between Australia and West Indies. Australia whitewashed West Indies in the three-match ODI series which concluded on February 6, Friday.

The Men in Maroon entered the ODI series in high spirits after defeating Australia in the second Test at Gabba. However, they could not carry the form in ODIs and lost 0-3 to the hosts in a one-sided series.

Australia won the toss and invited West Indies to bat first in the third ODI, played at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Tuesday. The Men in Maroon were in shambles after Australia bowled them out for 86. Xavier Bartlett was the star for the hosts with the ball, taking figures of 4/21 in just 7.1 overs.

However, Bartlett’s first wicket in the match was a gift from West Indies batter Kjorn Ottley. Kjorn Ottley was given out by the umpire after a ball looked like it hit on his pads and he straight away walked back to the dugout without even thinking about reviewing the decision.

The replay showed a thick inside edge and commentator Mark Waugh was surprised to see Kjorn Ottley not review such a clear inside edge. The former Australia cricketer deemed this mistake by Ottley as ‘unforgivable’ and called him an idiot after the incident.

Mark Waugh is known for his blunt words and doesn’t filter his words when he speaks. He yelled in the commentary box in disbelief that Ottley didn’t review such a clear inside edge and gifted his wicket to Xavier Bartlett.

“He’s smashed it!! what an idiot,” Waugh yelled. “It sounded like there were two noises. My goodness, what are they doing? That is just unforgivable.” West Indies was then bowled out for 86 before 25 overs and Australia chased the target comfortably in the seventh over of their innings with eight wickets to spare. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Josh Inglis had a 67-run partnership for the first wicket with the former scoring 41 off just 18 deliveries.

Australia And West Indies Will Now Play A Three-Match T20I Series

The two teams will now face off in the shortest format of the game which commences on February 9, Friday at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. West Indies recently defeated England at home in December 2023 by 3-2 in a five-match T20I series.

The Men in Maroon will be in high spirits in the T20I series as this format is the strongest point for most of the Caribbean players and they can be a good competition for the hosts.

This is the last T20I series for both teams before heading to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled in June and will be jointly hosted by West Indies and the United States.

The West Indies will be hoping to perform well in the T20 World Cup as it will be played on their home turf they have previously missed out on the Super 12s of the T20 World Cup in 2022 and were also unable to qualify for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in 2023.

West Indies bowling all-rounder Fabian Allen found himself in a harrowing ordeal as he was held at gunpoint by assailants outside of his hotel in Johannesburg. The incident unfolded in broad daylight, sending shockwaves through the cricketing world and raising concerns about the safety of players participating in the SA20, which is slated to come to an end on February 10.

Fabian Allen who is a key player for the Paarl Royals in the SA20, was targeted by unknown individuals while he had gone outside of the hotel. The brazen robbery has not only rocked Fabian Allen but has also left fellow cricketers and fans deeply worried. This topic is going viral all over social media.

The West Indies all-rounder, known for his dynamic bowling and explosive batting, was undoubtedly shaken by the frightening encounter. Such incidents not only threaten the safety and well-being of players but also cast a shadow over the reputation of host countries and their ability to provide adequate security measures for sporting events and South Africa is under scrutiny for this event.

In response to the alarming incident, both the SA20 league and the Paarl Royals have issued statements assuring their commitment to ensuring the safety of players and actively collaborating with authorities to apprehend the suspects.

“Paarl Royals would like to state that the West Indian all-rounder is safe, and enjoying his time at the SA20 as he, along with his teammates and support staff, prepares for the all-important Eliminator on Wednesday,” the Royals wrote on their official website.

While professional athletes are accustomed to facing challenges on the field, the threat of violence outside the sporting arena is an unwelcoming and alarming reality. This will perhaps be the first time that a cricketer is going through a gunpoint robbery.

In fact, such types of robberies are more prevalent in the world of football where goons often break into their houses and go away after stealing loads of cash, jewelry, and further expensive items.

Paarl Royals Ask Media Outlets To Not Further Speculate About The Fabian Allen Matter

The statement went on and further asked the media to not speculate or discuss about the safety of the players participating in the SA20 after the incident that occurred with Fabian Allen. They asked so from the media because the knockout rounds are set to start from today and the players are required to think more about the match rather than the incident.

“We would request the media to not speculate further on his and his teammates’ safety, and allow them to focus on the crucial match ahead of them. The franchise works closely with the league to ensure the safety and well-being of its players and staff, while also allowing them to have free personal time as well,” the statement concluded.

Fabian Allen is up for selection and has traveled with the team for their Eliminator clash against 4th-placed Joburg Super Kings tomorrow. The Royals had exited the tournament last year from the knockout rounds itself but this year they have produced improved performances this year and there is hope that they can take a step forward to the title.

West Indies batters Roston Chase and Matthew Forde were involved in a heated argument after a disastrous mix-up during the third and final ODI match against Australia. Matthew Forde and Roston Chase exchanged some words as they blamed each other for the run-out.

The Australia team opted to bat first after winning the toss at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Tuesday, February 6. The home team got off to a good start as Xavier Bartlett dismissed opener Kjorn Ottley, who scored 8 runs, in the third over of the West Indies innings.

The visiting team finished the first powerplay with a score of 36-1. However, they lost wickets in the middle overs and were bowled out for 86 runs in 24.1 overs. Only three batters, Alick Athanaze, Keacy Carty, and Roston Chase, managed to reach the double-digit mark

Xavier Bartlett extended his impressive form in international cricket, claiming four wickets for a mere 21 runs. Lance Morris and Adam Zampa made significant contributions, each securing two wickets. Sean Abbott added one wicket to the Australian bowling attack.

Watch – Roston Chase and Matthew Forde Involved In Heated Argument

The incident took place in the 21st over of the innings when Matthew Forde hit the ball towards mid-wicket and attempted a quick single. Australia’s substitute fielder, Mackenzie Harvey, quickly dove at deep mid-wicket and then threw the ball to the wicketkeeper’s end.

Forde ran halfway down the pitch while Chase remained at his end, resulting in the run-out. Wicketkeeper Josh Inglis quickly removed the bails, restricting the visitors to 73/7. Forde had to depart for a duck without troubling the opposition team in the dead rubber match.

Matthew Forde showed frustration towards Chase while the Australians were celebrating the wicket. As Forde was making his way back to the pavilion after his brief innings, he and Chase continued their verbal exchange.

Australia White Wash West Indies In ODI Series

The Steve Smith-led team successfully chased down the target in just 6.5 overs. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Josh Inglis provided a flying start to the Australian team, adding 67 runs in 4.3 overs. Fraser-McGurk scored 41 runs off 18 balls, including five fours and three sixes.

Aaron Hardie managed to score just two runs before being dismissed by Oshane Thomas. Josh Inglis remained unbeaten on 35 runs off 16 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six. Skipper Steve Smith (6) scored the winning runs in the last match of the series.

Before Australia went on to claim the 3-match Dettol ODI series and whitewash the West Indies by 3-0, the home team’s right-arm pacer Lance Morris had to leave the field midway through his 5th over after experiencing strain on the left side of his body and he is expected to go through the first round of scans later today.

The Australian Cricket Board confirmed that Lance Morris has actually suffered a left-side strain, which has affected his overall bowling and especially his non-bowling arm. The 25-year-old had already picked up the first 2 wickets of international cricket by conceding 13 runs in his 4-over spell and he felt the left side pain, mid-way through in what was his 5th over.

In the 3rd ball, Morris would show signs of pain and then throw away the ball, and put his cap on before going towards the dressing room to address the management about it. He made his debut only 4 days ago in Australia’s 8-wicket victory in the 1st ODI over West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Lance Morris is a part of the new look youth-filled Australian side, which is preparing itself for a smoother transition for major forthcoming ICC events. Barring the Test series against West Indies where a full-strength Aussie squad played out an exciting series of 1-1, their team was relatively younger and newer in the ODIs.

All format captain Pat Cummins had stated that in the years to come, the likes of Starc, Hazlewood and maybe himself might not be a part of the team and that’s why it is important to start shaping the future team from now so that during competitions like the Champions Trophy (2025) and Cricket World Cup (2027), Australia keep coming out on top.

That makes Lance Morris a key entity of the future team and his latest injury setback could also keep him away from making his Test debut when the world champions head over to New Zealand for 3 T20Is and 2 Tests. The Western Australian, who hails from the region of Busselton, has a decent domestic record.

In first-class cricket, Morris has 74 wickets in 28 matches. One of the key strengths of his bowling is that he has a simple action aided by a high release point due to his tallness and most importantly he can pick the right lengths.

Lance Morris received his maiden call-up on the back of a successful Big Bash League season with the Perth Scorchers who finished 3rd in the league table before getting eliminated during the Knockout match. Morris registered a total of 16 wickets including a five-for against the Sydney Strikers.

Scan Results To Decide The Fate Of Lance Morris For New Zealand Tour

According to the latest development, Cricket Australia is waiting for the results of the first-round scans scheduled for today and then deciding whether to include Lance Morris into the squad for their tour of New Zealand.

He will not be getting any chances to feature in the T20Is as a full-strength squad is expected to feature but if he keeps himself away from injury then Morris could be included in the Test side.

Marnus Labuschagne displayed exceptional fielding skills in the third ODI between Australia and the West Indies in Canberra. Marnus Labuschagne’s diving catch also played a crucial role in Australian pacer Lance Morris securing his first wicket in international cricket.

Australia won the toss and chose to bowl. Xavier Bartlett made an early impact, dismissing West Indies opener Kjorn Ottley for 8 after trapping him on the pads. Ottley missed an opportunity to survive by not opting for the DRS, as replays indicated a clear inside edge.

Watch – Marnus Labuschagne Takes Sensational Flying Catch

In the 11th over of the West Indies innings, Lance Morris secured his maiden international wicket as he dismissed Keacy Carty with a well-executed catch by Marnus Labuschagne at backward point. Labuschagne leapt to his right, executing the stunning diving catch.

“That’s a catch and a half,” Mark Howard screamed for Fox Cricket.

“That is an absolute beauty, flying away is Marnus Labuschagne, got two hands to it like a goalkeeper — top shelf.”

“Maccas classic if you don’t mind,” Brett Lee added.

Keacy Carty departed after scoring 10 runs off 20 deliveries, reducing the visiting team to 38/2. The West Indies faced another setback as skipper Shai Hope was trapped by Sean Abbott for four runs. Hope attempted to whip a delivery but was struck in front of the stumps.

Lance Morris secured his second wicket by dismissing Teddy Bishop (0) with a well-directed full delivery. Opener Alick Athanaze scored 32 runs off 60 deliveries before being dismissed by Adam Zampa. The visiting team lost their five wickets for just 71 runs in 19.5 overs.

The Shai Hope-led team was bowled out for a mere 86 runs in the match, with Xavier Bartlett impressively taking four wickets for just 21 runs. Lance Morris and Adam Zampa each claimed two wickets, while Sean Abbott picked up one wicket in the West Indies innings.

Australia vs West Indies Playing XI

The Australia team made two changes to their line-up for the final match, while the West Indies made one change for a dead rubber.

Australia: Jake Fraser-McGurk, Josh Inglis (wk), Aaron Hardie, Steven Smith (c), Cameron Green, Marnus Labuschagne, Sean Abbott, Will Sutherland, Xavier Bartlett, Adam Zampa, Lance Morris

West Indies: Alick Athanaze, Teddy Bishop, Kjorn Ottley, Shai Hope (c & wk), Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde, Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Oshane Thomas

The Australian team secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. They dominated the first game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) with an eight-wicket victory, followed by another convincing 83-run win at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

After the ODI series, the Australia team and the West Indies team will face each other in a three-match T20I series from February 9 to 13. The first match is scheduled to be played in Hobart. The remaining matches in the upcoming series will be played in Adelaide and Perth.

West Indies opener Kjorn Ottley made a huge mistake as he denied taking the DRS that could have helped him save his wicket in the third ODI against Australia.

West Indies who were sent into bat first are reeling after losing their top three wickets inside the first 12 overs of the match in Canberra. Otlley was dismissed by Xavier Bartlett who is making a comeback in this game.

Bartlett picked up four wickets in the game and missed the second ODI through injury. In the 11th over of the Windies innings, Bartlett bowled a full delivery that swung after pitching and took the edge of Ottley’s bat before thudding into his pads. The bower appealed and umpire Sharfuddoula ruled the decision in the bowlers’ favour.

The Replays, however, showed that Kjorn Ottley edged the ball but he failed to understand. He walked as soon as the umpire gave him out not knowing that he had edged the delivery. He was the first West Indies wicket to fall as the Australians capitalised and took two more including the wicket of skipper Shai Hope (4) in the 12th over.

Australia won the first ODI by 8 wickets and the second by 83 runs seent the Windies into bat after winning the toss and have controlled the game so far. Steve Smith is leading the side in the absence of Pat Cummins. Mitchell Starc is also not a part of the side as the duo have been rested from this series including the T20I series.

“Not sure how the wicket is going to play. It might get better under lights. That’s pretty much the reason. Two changes. Short is out with a hamstring and Hazlewood didn’t make the trip. Bartlett and Lance Morris are back in,” said Steve Smith the Australian skipper after winning the toss and opting to field first.

“We would have batted. There’s some weather around but we should just play our cricket rather than focus on the weather. Good signs have been shown but the batting is letting us down. One change, Greaves is struggling a bit with his hamstring so Teddy Bishop is making his debut,” said Windies skipper Shai Hope after losing the toss.
