The AUS vs NZ series kicks off with a three-match T20I series followed by a two-match Test series which is a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. The first T20I will be played in Wellington starting from 11.40 am IST.

The two teams have been playing continuous cricket since the World Cup. Australia first played a Test series against Pakistan and then a T20I series against West Indies.

They won both of them. New Zealand played a T20I series against Pakistan that they won. Next, they played a Test series against a second-string South African side which they won 2-0 as well.

Leading into this series, they will be led by Mitchell Marsh who led them in the series against West Indies. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc who rested from the Windies series return to the side.

Nathan Ellis who missed out of the West Indies series with a rib injury was retained in the T20I squad for the series against New Zealand. Australia are placed fourth in the T20I rankings leading into this series.

New Zealand also have a handful of changes and some key players missing due to injury. First and foremost Kane Williamson is absent from this series as he is on parental leave.

Tim Southee will only play the first T20I and will then manage his workload by resting in the next two games. Mitchell Santner will lead the Kiwis in the remaining two games.

Josh Clarkson, an uncapped all-rounder is part of New Zealand’s 14-man squad for the AUS vs NZ T20I series. Tim Southee is also back in the T20I squad with a vision to play in the next T20 World Cup. He did not play the Test series against South Africa. Boult will replace Southee for the last two games.

Among injury concerns are Daryl Mitchell (foot injury) and Michael Bracewell (finger injury) who are unavailable in the series. Mitchell will return for the two-match Test series. Meanwhile, Jimmy Neesham is unavailable as he is playing in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Thus despite injury concerns in both camps, both teams have been able to name strong squads that will make the AUS vs NZ T20I series worth watching.

Australia takes on New Zealand in a three-match T20I series starting with the first T20I in Wellington. The match starts at 11.40 am IST which is 7.10 pm local time. Australia are heading into this series on the back of a T20I series win against West Indies earlier this month.

Glenn Maxwell scored his fifth T20I ton in the series against the Windies and now stands as the only batter with five T20I centuries in the format.

Heading into this series, they are ranked fourth in the ICC T20I rankings. They will be led by Mitchell Marsh and have a few injury concerns. The squad misses the likes of Marcus Stoinis, and Aaron Hardie due to injury concerns.

Spencer Johnson was named as Harie’s replacement who was named the replace for Marcus Stoinis. However, the Aussie all-rounder injured himself in a Sheffield Shield game.

Aussie selectors have picked a full-strength side for the series ahead of the T20 World Cup in June. When the squad for New Zealand was announced before the three T20s against West Indies, National Selection Panel chair George Bailey said the games would play a part in their selection for the World Cup.

The squad sees the return of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and also Nathan Ellis who missed the series against West Indies due to a rib injury. The players will take this series as an opportunity to show their potential for the T20 World Cup. In this article, we predict Australia’s playing XI for the first T20I.

Marsh opened the batting with Warner against West Indies but can slot in at three for this series. He is still very fresh as an international captain and is expected to be tested against the Kiwis.

Steve Smith

Smith is a part of this series as well. He was rested from the West Indies series. The senior batter can bat at four show his might with the bat and make a case for his T20 World Cup selection. He has played a fair bit of T20 cricket since the ODI World Cup.

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell can slot in at five. He scored his fifth T20I ton in the second T20I against West Indies and ended with 142 runs in the series at a strike rate of 184.42. Maxwell is also 10 short of 50 T20I wickets which he can get to in this series.

Tim David

David the big-hitter can slot in at six. After playing the series against West Indies he flew back to the UAE to play in the ILT20 for the MI Emirates and is back again to play the series against New Zealand.

Matthew Wade (WK)

Wade will be the specialist wicketkeeper. He has been the favored keeper in the T20I format. Alex Carey has been favored in Test and ODI cricket. He has played 83 matches and closing in on 1500 runs.

Pat Cummins

Cummins will bat at eight and lengthen the batting order. He was rested from the series against West Indies but is back for this series as the selectors are looking to fine-tune their squads. He has picked up 55 wickets from 50 matches.

Mitchell Starc

Starc too has returned for this series after being rested from the series against West Indies. He has picked up 73 wickets from 58 T20Is and does not play the format regularly.

Nathan Ellis

Zampa concludes Australia’s likely playing XI. The Aussie spinner is 13 short of 100 T20I wickets and can get to that if he has a good series with the ball. He has picked up 87 wickets from 77 T20Is.

Australia and New Zealand face off in the AUS vs NZ three-match T20I series followed by a two-match Test series as they continue their preparations for the T20 World Cup. The test series though will be a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023-35 campaign.

Date and Venue

The AUS vs NZ first T20I will be played in Wellington on February 21. The match starts at 11.40 am IST which is 7.10 pm local time. Auckland hosts the next two T20Is on February 23 and 25. In 10 T20I games in New Zealand, the Kiwis have won four while the Aussies six

Team Analysis- AUS vs NZ Match Preview- 1st T20I, 2024

New Zealand

New Zealand will be led by Mitchell Santner. Trent Boult has returned to the New Zealand T20I series for this series. He did not play the Test series against South Africa. The Kiwis previously played a T20I series against Pakitan that they won.

Boult will play the final two games with Tim Southee to be rested. The squad is without the likes of Daryl Mitchell (foot injury), Michael Bracewell (finger injury), and Jimmy Neesham (playing in BPL 2024).

They have added an uncapped all-rounder in Josh Clarkson who has the reputation of being a big-hitter. Ahead of the T20 World Cup, this will be a nice Test for the Kiwis at home. It is an opportunity for the players selected to make an impression and stay in contention for T20 World Cup selection.

New Zealand Squad

Mitchell Santner (c), Finn Allen, Trent Boult (games 2 & 3), Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Devon Conway (wk), Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Adam Milne, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Seifert (wk), Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee (game 1)

Australia

Australia have a few injury concerns heading into this series. They will be without the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Aaron Harie in this series. Both are ruled out with injury concerns. The Aussies will be led by Mitchell Marsh. He will have plenty of leadership experience to fall back on with Pat Cummins returning to the squad for the series.

Also back is Mitchell Starc who was rested from the West Indies T20I series. Glenn Maxwell, Azam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Ellis make up the bowling attack. Cricket Australia has named Spencer Johnson as the replacement for Stoinis.

Australia Squad

Mitchell Marsh (c), Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa

Key Battles

David Warner vs Tim Southee

This matchup will be an enticing contest between the two senior players. Warner had had the wood over Southee in T20I cricket. He has scored 67 from the 33 balls he faced against the Kiwi pacer. Southee has managed to dismiss him just once. The Kiwi pacer will play only the first T20I and should eye his wicket.

Glenn Maxwell vs Mitchell Santner

Another key battle is expected to be between Maxwell and Santner. The Australian all-rounder seems to be in the form of his life. He recently scored his fifth T20I century that came in the series against West Indies. The Kiwi left-arm spinner has just dismissed Maxwell once in T20Is.

Key Players

In the absence of Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell, Devon Conway becomes the key player with the bat for the Kiwis. The likes of Rachin Ravindra, Finn Allen, and Glenn Phillips will need to bat around him. With the ball, Southee and Santner hold the key.

For Australia, David Warner’s batting at the top always holds the key. Glenn Maxwell with the kind of form he is in becomes a key player in the middle-order. Azam Zampa is gunning down 100 T20I wickets and Starc with his pace and swing is always a lethal option with the ball.

Weather and Pitch

As per reports, there are drop-in pitches used in Wellington since there is a lot of rain at the venue. There is a forecast of rain during the day for the AUS vs NZ first T20I.

The weather is expected to clear out by the time the match starts in the evening. However, the rain might mean a delayed start in case of a wet outfield.  The pitch as said earlier becomes a batting-friendly one in T20Is with scores over 200 posted and chased down regularly.

Conclusion

The AUS vs NZ T20I series is expected to be exciting. New Zealand who have just won five out of the 16 T20Is against the Aussies have a chance to add to that tally by pushing the Aussies for a potential clean sweep. The Aussies are in form after beating West Indies 2-1 in their previous T20I series.

Devon Conway (WK)

Finn Allen

Allen might open the batting with Conway. The young Kiwi opener has not been able to maximise his chances in the format. However, he scored a hundred in the last T20I series against Pakistan.

Rachin Ravindra

The southpaw will slot in at three. He has shown a lot of maturity with the bat since the ODI World Cup and also provides a bowling option in the top five. He is an all-format cricketer. He has played 19 T20Is scoring just 146 runs.

Mark Chapman

Chapman will bat at four. He made a switch from Canada to New Zealand to prolong his international career and has done a good job so far with the bat. He is approaching 1400 runs in the format.

Glenn Phillips

Phillips can bat at five and play the finisher’s role. In the absence of Daryl Mitchell, he might be promoted to number five which will give him more overs to bat. He also provides a right-arm spin bowling option.

Mitchell Santner (C)

Santner will slot in at six. He will also lead the side in the three games. He has led this Kiwi side in T20Is more than once. The Kiwis have won 12 off the 19 matches under him as captain. He has taken 17 wickets in these games.

Tim Southee

Southee will slot in at seven. He has also led New Zealand across formats. He will play only the first T20I after which Trent Boult will replace him in the last two games. He has picked up 157 wickets from 121 T20I games.

Lockie Ferguson

Ferguson will pair up with Southee as the second pacer in the lineup. His pace will be a factor in the series against Australia with the Aussies good players of fast bowling. He is one shy of 50 T20I wickets.

Matt Henry

New Zealand

Henry will be the third seamer in the XI. He has been injury-prone in the last few months playing games for New Zealand on and off. He last played in the 5th T20I against Pakistan in Christchurch where he took two wickets.

Adam Milne

Adam Milne

Adam Milne will be the fourth seamer in this XI. This is a good chance for the Kiwis to unsettle the Australians with raw pace and push them on the back foot. Milne has picked up 57 wickets in 50 T20Is.

Ish Sodhi

Sodhi concludes the paying XI for New Zealand for the first T20I against Australia. he last played in the fifth T20I against Pakistan. He has picked up 132 wickets in 109 T20Is.

The AUS vs NZ T20I series kicks off with the first T20I in Wellington on February 21. The match starts at 11.40 am IST and is the first of the three games.

The series continues preparations for both teams in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The tournament will be played in June 2024 hosted jointly by USA and West Indies.

The first T20I will be played on February 21, the second on Fen 23, and the third on Feb 25. The two teams then play a two-match Test series. Wellington hosts the first Test from Feb-29-March 4 and Christchurch the second from March 8-12.

Team Analysis

Australia

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh. He will continue to lead the side with Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc returning to the side. Australia will miss a few key players Aaron Hardie and Marcus Stoinsi who played the last T20I series against West Indies.

The squad will also be without Spencer Johnson who replaced the injured Nathan Ellis who is back in this side. David Warner will continue to play T20I cricket after retiring from Test and ODI.

New Zealand

New Zealand will be led by Mitchell Santner. Trent Boult is back in New Zealand colors for the T20I series. He is aiming to play in the T20 World Cup and hence looking to play all T20Is for the side. The squad misses a few key players.

Kane Williamson is on parental leave. Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell is out with a foot injury along with Michael Bracewell who is recovering from a finger injury. Jimmy Neesham is playing in the Bangladesh Premier League and hence missing the series. The squad has an uncapped all-rounder in Josh Clarkson.

Key Factors

Pitch Conditions

Generally conditions in New Zealand aid seam and swing bowling in Test and ODI cricket. However, the pitch conditions aid the batters in the T20I format as it does in any part of the world while playing this format. The venue has hosted 21 T20Is with 10 matches won by the team batting first and 11 by teams chasing.

Thus the pitch remains intact throughout the 40 overs of play. Meanwhile, due to the rain threat in New Zealand, the venue uses drop-in pitches like most other pitches in New Zealand for T20Is that aid batting.

Form and fitness

While the form of batters and bowlers from both teams is good there are injury concerns in both camps. New Zealand is missing Daryl Mitchell (foot injury) and Michael Bracewell (finger injury) due to injury concerns.

The Aussies on the other hand, are missing Marcus Stoinis (back injury). Aaron Hardie who was named as Stoinis’s replacement is also ruled out with a calf injury. Cricket Australia confirmed that Spencer Johnson has been called into the squad immediately to replace Aaron Hardie in the squad.

Tactical Acumen

The Kiwis will be led by Mitchell Santner while the Aussies by Mitchell Marsh. While Santner has been leading the Kiwis for a few years now, especially in the T20I format, Marsh’s tactics as captain will be an interesting observation. He has plenty of leadership experience to fall back on.

AUS vs NZ Weather Report Live Today And Pitch Report Of Wellington Stadium – 1st T20I, 2024

AUS vs NZ 1st T20I Weather Report

The AUS vs NZ first T20I starts from 11.40 am IST which is 7.10 pm local time. The weather conditions will remain mostly cloudy with a breezy spell in the afternoon. The temperature will be around 20 degrees in the daytime.

The weather conditions will be mainly clear in the evening with the temperature around 14 degrees. However, there is a likely chance of rain in the daytime which might mean a delayed start if the outfield is too wet. The venue uses a drop-in pitch due to heavy rain in Wellington as per reports.

Pitch Analysis

As said earlier, the pitch at the Sky Stadium in Wellington uses drop-in pitches due to heavy rain at the venue. Thus the pitch remains a batting-friendly one and we can expect a high-scoring match. So far 21 matches have been played at this venue. 10 games have been won by the team batting first and 11 games chasing.

Weather Impact On The Game

As per reports rain is always a threat in New Zealand in evening matches. The country and the city experience a lot of rainfall throughout the year. There is a slight forecast of rain during the daytime on Wednesday.

However, the weather will mainly remain clear in the evening. If it rains, it might result in a delayed start. If it rains too heavily it is also a possibility the match might even get rained out.

Conclusion

The AUS vs NZ series starts with the first T20I in Wellington on February 21. The next two T20I matches will be played in Auckland on February 23 and 25. The two teams then play a two-match Test series with the first Test in Wellington and the second in Christchurch.

Australia and New Zealand go head to head in a three-match T20I series. The first AUS vs NZ T20I will be played in Wellington on February 21. The match starts at 11. 40 am IST.

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh while New Zealand will be led by Mitchell Santner. Both teams have been in continuous cricket since the ODI World Cup.

New Zealand first played a T20I series against Pakistan that they won. They next played a Test series against South Africa and they won 2-0 as well. Heading into this series, the team has a few changes.

Trent Boult returns to the squad looking to get some match practice leading into the next T20 World Cup. They are without the likes of Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell who are struggling with injury concerns. Kane Williamson is on parental leave while Jimmy Neesham is playing in BPL 2024.

Australia on the other hand, sees the return of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc who were rested in the T20I series against West Indies. Closing in the T20 World Cup, Australia are looking to play with their full-strength squad.

They played against Pakistan in a Test series where they swept the Men in Green. Against West Indies, they drew the Test series and won the T20I series.

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh, on Tuesday (February 20), confirmed his team’s top three ahead of the first T20I against New Zealand. The three-match T20I series is scheduled to get underway on Wednesday in Wellington.

While Mitchell Marsh and David Warner opened the innings against West Indies earlier this month, the Australia captain confirmed that Travis Head would replace him at the top. On the other hand, the allrounder will be batting at number three followed by Glenn Maxwell.

With the top four looking almost settled ahead of the T20 World Cup, Steve Smith’s chances of cementing his spot in the team look highly impossible now. The former Australia captain was given a chance to open the innings for Australia in T20Is in recent months but he failed to capitalize on the opportunities.

The veteran batter was rested for the series against West Indies. Before that, he had opened the innings during the T20I series in India in November last year. In January, he also played one game for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League but was dismissed for a duck.

Mitchell Marsh on Australia’s top three:

Speaking on the eve of the first T20I against New Zealand, Mitchell Marsh confirmed that Warner and Head will be opening the innings while he will be following them at no. 3. And when asked about Smith’s role in the team, he said:

“You’ll have to find out, we’ll announce our team at the toss.

“There will be certain guys that probably bat in different positions than they have done in the past, but ultimately we’re here to win the series.

“I’ve batted three for the last 18 months, so I’ll be there to start with. And obviously Heady and Davey Warner have been amazing for us over the last period of time, so I daresay that will be the top three,” he added.

Speaking further, he stated that Tim David would be the player for the No. 6 spot. The other middle-order option is likely to be taken by either Josh Inglis or Matthew Wade while Marcus Stoinis will also be in contention for the allrounder’s spot.

“I think players like Tim (David) are a rarity, and it (number six) is probably the hardest role within T20 cricket. We’re lucky to have him. He’s become a phenomenal player in that role and there’s no doubt he’s going to play a big part for us,” he said.

The upcoming series will be Australia’s last T20 assignment before the T20 World Cup in June.

The T20I series between Australia and New Zealand will now be played for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy as well. The trophy was earlier awarded to the winner of the bilateral ODI series between the Trans-Tasman rivals. The trophy is named after former Australia batsman Greg Chappell and New Zealand allrounder Richard Hadlee.

It will begin with the upcoming three-match T20I series, scheduled to get underway on Wednesday (February 21) in Wellington. Having the same trophy for both the white-ball format means that when both the teams play back-to-back ODI and T20I series against each other, there will be a points structure including both formats in order to prevent the trophy from changing hands within days.

“It’s great that the trophy will have more visibility and profile. I like the new conditions too – especially in the event of back-to-back 20-over and 50-over series,” Hadlee was quoted as saying on behalf of his family in a release, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

“It means all games will continue to be relevant, and that the trophy will remain on the line for a longer period – plenty to play for,” he added.

On the other hand, Chappell said: “I am a great believer in promoting young players through the pathways and national system and it will be particularly pleasing to see some young Australian players competing with their Kiwi counterparts for the trophy in years to come.”

Chappell-Hadlee Trophy and its history:

The first series for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy was played in December 2004 when New Zealand toured Australia for a three-match ODI series. The series ended at 1-1. In the 2005/06 season, Australia won the trophy with a 2-1 win over the Black Caps.

Since then, Australia have won the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy seven times while New Zealand have won it four times. Australia are also the current holders of the famous trophy.

Here is a list showing the result of the series played for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy:

Season Host Result
2004–05 Australia Drawn 1–1
2005–06 New Zealand Australia won 2–1
2006–07 New Zealand New Zealand won 3–0
2007–08 Australia Australia won 2–0
2008–09 Australia Drawn 2–2
2009–10 New Zealand Australia won 3–2
2015–16 New Zealand New Zealand won 2–1
2016–17 Australia Australia won 3–0
2016–17 New Zealand New Zealand won 2–0
2019–20 Australia Australia won 1–0

As David Warner gears up to play in the upcoming three-match T20I series in New Zealand, he has stated that the abuse he and his teammates received from the local fans is still fresh in his mind.

Way back in 2016, the veteran Australia opener had condemned the behavior of the New Zealand fans, calling it ‘derogatory and vulgar’. Calling out the fans, he had said that he and his teammates were constantly targeted by home supporters with extremely personal attacks. During the same tour, a local fan was ejected from Hagley Oval in Christchurch for relentlessly abusing Josh Hazlewood.

And while David Warner and his teammates will be hoping for better behaviour from the New Zealand crowd, the Australia opener has made it clear that he won’t be surprised if the crowd decides against it. He stated that he is just focused on his business and won’t be bothered by the crowd behaviour.

“I enjoy playing here,” David Warner said in Wellington on Monday morning, as quoted by News Corp Australia.

“It’s about coming out and trying to put my best foot forward, and score runs. The crowd, yeah, they got personal, but if they have to get personal, that’s their character.

“I just go about my business. But that’s upon each individual, if that’s what they feel like they have to do, then so be it.

“If you want to pay your money to come and abuse people, you have to go back and lay in your own bed. We’re here to play the game of cricket that we love, enjoy and put bums on seats to keep the game going,” he added.

Expecting the crowd to come at us as hard as they come: David Warner:

The upcoming series will be David Warner’s last assignment in New Zealand as Australia player. He has already retired from Tests and ODIs and will bring down curtains on his T20I career after this year’s T20 World Cup. While he received a warm reception from the fans in Sydney during his final Test earlier this year, the response was not so warm in his final T20I match on the Australian soil.

When asked about the sort of reception he is expecting from the New Zealand crowd, David Warner said: “Over here, it’s always the harsh reality that we’re neighbours, in sport we like to beat each other.

“From that perspective, we’re going to be expecting the crowd to come at us as hard as they come. As we always say, it’s in one ear, out the other – if I actually hear anything,” he added.

The three-match T20I series is scheduled to be played from February 21.

Aaron Hardie who was selected for the three-match T20I series against New Zealand as a replacement for Marcus Stoinis has now himself been ruled out of the series due to a minor calf issue. He has been replaced by pacer Spencer Johnson in the squad. The T20I series between Australia and New Zealand is scheduled to commence on February 21, Wednesday and the first T20I of the three-match series will be played at the Sky Stadium in Wellington.

Aaron Hardie was not initially included in the squad and was announced as a replacement for all-rounder Marcus Stoinis who was ruled out of the series due to a back injury. Hardie was playing in Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield game against Tasmania in Hobart and he experienced some stiffness in his calf while bowling on Day 2 of the four-day game after which he was sent for some scans. He was scheduled to fly to Wellington on Monday but now he has been ruled out of the series.

The initial scans did not reveal any major damage but he was away from the field on the third day as a precaution and was also withdrawn from the T20I series against New Zealand. Western Australia’s coach Adam Voges confirmed he will be available to bat on the final day if required. “He’s got a tight calf, It’s more precautionary. He’ll bat if required tomorrow. Hopefully, it’s nothing too significant,” said Adam Voges.
Australia and New Zealand tasted victory in their last T20I series as Australia won the T20I series by 2-1 and New Zealand thrashed Pakistan 4-1 in the five-match T20 series. Now these two sides will face each other in a three-match T20I series which is scheduled to start on February 21, Wednesday. The two sides will also face each other in a two-match Test series after the conclusion of the T20I series.

Spencer Johnson ready to replace Aaron Hardie in the T20I squad for Australia

Cricket Australia confirmed that Spencer Johnson has been called into the squad immediately to replace Aaron Hardie in the squad. Spencer Johnson was also a member of the three-match T20I series against West Indies and he took three wickets in two games but was a bit expensive in both the games. He is a tall and strong left-arm pacer and has a terrific record in BBL and the Hundred where he represents Brisbane Heat and Oval Invincibles respectively.

Aaron Hardie on the other hand will continue his game against Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield and will bat on Day 4 if required. He led Perth Scorchers in the absence of Ashton Turner for most of the BBL this season and took them to the Eliminator but got beaten by Adelaide Strikers in the Eliminator. Aaron Hardie is a reliable all-rounder and was a like-for-like replacement for Marcus Stoinis

Australia will also miss the service of their vice-captain and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade who has stayed in Hobart for the birth of his first child. However, he will be available for the second and third T20I of the series. Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh whereas Kane Williamson is expected to lead the side.

The Black Caps have suffered a double blow as pacer Matt Henry and wicketkeeper Tim Seifert have been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Australia. Matt Henry and Tim Seifert will be replaced by Ben Sears and Will Young for the three-match series.

The first T20I match between New Zealand and Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh, is scheduled to be played at the Sky Stadium in Wellington on Wednesday, February 21. The remaining two matches will be played in Auckland on February 23 and February 25, respectively.

Mitchell Santner To Lead New Zealand In T20I Series

All-rounder Mitchell Santner will lead the national team in Kane Williamson’s absence as the latter takes paternity leave. Daryl Mitchell is sidelined with a foot injury. Pacer Tim Southee will only play in the first match to manage his workload ahead of the Test series.

Matt Henry experienced hip soreness after the 2nd Test against South Africa in Hamilton and will need a brief period of rest and strengthening before the Test series against Australia. Tim Seifert has been sidelined due to a torn abductor sustained during training with the Northern Districts earlier this week.

Gary Stead Optimistic About Matt Henry and Tim Seifert’s Recovery

Black Caps coach Gary Stead expressed confidence in both players’ swift recoveries. Stead emphasized the necessity of Matt Henry being fully fit before the Tests and noted Tim Seifert’s regular presence in the T20I setup.

“Matt’s understandably disappointed, but a break for the T20Is will ensure he’s fully fit and ready to go for the Tests against Australia later this month,” said Stead.

“We’re gutted for Tim who has been a strong performer over recent series and is an important part of the squad. We’re hopeful he’ll make a swift recovery ahead of an important period of T20I cricket for the team,” he added.

Ben Sears Is A Talented T20 Bowler – Gary Stead

Stead mentioned that Ben Sears and Will Young are strong replacements for the upcoming series. He highlighted Sears’ impactful performances against Pakistan and commended Young’s consistent contributions across formats.

“Ben showed in his recent performances against Pakistan that he is a talented T20 bowler capable of influencing games of cricket for New Zealand,” Stead further added.

“Will has been a regular in the environment across formats for some time now and his recent performances for the Central Stags in the Super Smash show he his more than capable to contribute at this level,” he concluded.

Left-arm pacer Trent Boult is set to rejoin the New Zealand squad after a 15-month absence from the shorter format. Boult will feature in the latter two matches of the series. The pacer last played a T20 match during the 2022 World Cup encounter against Pakistan.

New Zealand squad: Mitchell Santner (c), Finn Allen, Trent Boult (games 2 & 3), Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Ben Sears, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee (game 1), Will Young.

Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against New Zealand commencing on February 21, Wednesday. He will miss the tour because of an injury and will be replaced by Aaron Hardie, as per CodeSports. Aaron Hardie has played four ODIs and seven T20Is for Australia and has not been the best performer but his BBL stats are something that has earned him a spot in the Australian squad for the shortest format.

Australia will tour their trans-Tasmanian rivals New Zealand later this month for three T20Is and two Test matches. They recently defeated West Indies in a three-match T20I series by 2-1 and whitewashed them in the ODI series by 3-0. However, the Test series was leveled 1-1 as West Indies scripted history in the Gabba. New Zealand on the other hand defeated South Africa 2-0 in the recently concluded Test series and now will host Australia for a multi-format tour.

Marcus Stoinis has a terrific record for Australia in the T20Is with both the bat and the ball. He has scored 940 runs in 49 innings across 59 matches at an average of 29.38 which includes two half-centuries. Marcus Stoinis has also taken 29 wickets at an average of 27.24 in T20Is for Australia. Aaron Hardie has an opportunity to showcase his worth and get in contention for the Australian squad that will participate in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup which is scheduled in June.

Marcus Stoinis will miss important game time for Australia before the T20 World Cup. However, he will get enough game time in T20s as he will be featuring in the IPL 2024 which is expected to commence in the third week of March. He was a part of the 2023 World Cup-winning squad of Australia. Mitchell Marsh, another pace-bowling all-rounder has been given the role to lead the Australian side in T20Is.

Marcus Stoinis has been replaced by Aaron Hardie in the squad

Marcus Stoinis represents Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and he is expected to return from his injury making a comeback in the IPL 2024. He will have to be at his best if he wants a slot in the T20 World Cup squad of Australia. He has not been in his best form in recent times and if Aaron Hardie makes an impact by performing well against New Zealand then it is possible that he will replace Marcus Stoinis in the Australian squad.

The T20I series will commence on February 21, Wednesday at the Sky Stadium in Wellington. Kane Williamson is likely to lead the BlackCaps whereas Mitchell Marsh will be leading the Australian side. David Warner has been in terrific form in T20Is as he smashed two half-centuries in the recently concluded T20I series against West Indies.

New Zealand has also recently defeated Pakistan 4-1 in a five-match T20I series where Finn Allen was on fire as he ended up as the highest run-scorer in the series scoring 275 in five innings. It will be an interesting competition between the two trans-Tasmanian rivals as they will face each other in the shortest and the longest format of the game respectively.

While MS Dhoni is often admired as one of the best wicketkeepers in international cricket, Alex Carey has done something that would even surprise MS Dhoni fans. Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey has grabbed an insane record as a wicketkeeper in the ongoing Marsh Cup 2024.

Playing for South Australia, Alex Carey grabbed a total of 8 catches during the encounter against Queensland. Five of Carey’s catches came off pacer Jordan Buckingham. The right-arm pacer hunted 6 wickets for 41 runs during his 10-over spell in the match at an economy of 4.10.

Batters who became a victim of Alex Carey behind the stumps were Ben McDermott, Matt Renshaw, Marnus Labuschagne, Jack Clayton, Jack Wildermuth, Dylan Mclachlan, Gurinder Sandhu, and Matthew Kuhnemann.

Alex Carey equals Peter Nevill’s record in Domestic Cricket

Alex Carey has equaled Peter Nevill’s record as the wicketkeeper. The former Australia wicketkeeper Nevill got 8 dismissals while representing New South Wales in an encounter against Cricket Australia XI. However, he got two wickets through stumpings.

In English domestic cricket, Derek Taylor was the first player to grab eight catches. The Somerset wicketkeeper grabbed the feat in 1982. Later, James Pipe also grabbed the same triumph while playing for Worcestershire in 2001.

Alex Carey was part of AUS vs WI Test series recently

Notably, Alex Carey played his first match in the Marsh Cup 2023-24 against Queensland. He was part of the Australia squad during the recent home series against West Indies. He played in both Tests against West Indies and mustered 82 runs across 3 innings with one half-century. He was not part of the ODI and T20I series.

Meanwhile, South Australia also crushed Queensland by 5 wickets in the match. Batting first, Queensland could only add 218-10 in 1st innings. Jordan Buckingham’s bowling and Carey’s wicketkeeping troubled their batters.

Labuschagne was the top run-getter with 74 runs. Dylan Mclachlan also scored a crucial 44 runs. Matthew Kunheman added 36 runs towards the end. Carey could not excel with the bat as the opening batter got out cheaply for 12 runs.

However, South Australia skipper Nathan McSweeney shattered a half-century while Thomas Kelly added 81 runs to drive the team to victory by 5 wickets. South Australia chased down the target in 44.1 overs. Jordan Buckingham was awarded player of the match for jolting 6 wickets in the match.

South Australia finish in the last spot in the Marsh Cup 2024 points table

Meanwhile, South Australia could not reach the final of the Marsh Cup 2023-24 even after a victory in their last match. New South Wales and Western Australia are two teams that will lock horns in the final. The encounter takes place on Sunday, February 25.

South Australia finished in the last 6th spot in the Marsh Cup 2023-24 points table. They won just 1 game and lost 5 out of 7. Their one match ended with no result. However, they finished the tournament on a winning note with Alex Carey and Jordan Buckingham achieving impressive performances in the game.

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan expressed skepticism regarding SunRisers Hyderabad’s decision to invest heavily in Pat Cummins during the IPL 2024 auction. Irfan Pathan said that Pat Cummins is yet to demonstrate his effectiveness in the shorter format.

Pat Cummins grabbed attention as the costliest purchase in IPL auction history, with SunRisers Hyderabad signing him for Rs 20.50 crore. However, Mitchell Starc broke this record, as he was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping Rs 24.75 crore.

Pat Cummins Hasn’t Yet Proved Himself In T20 Cricket – Irfan Pathan

During a discussion on Star Sports, Irfan Pathan highlighted Pat Cummins‘ success in Test and ODI formats but expressed doubts about his T20 performances. Pathan questioned whether the hefty price tag aligns with his performance in the shorter format.

“Pat Cummins – WTC (World Test Championship) was red ball and he won the ODI World Cup final, which was 50 overs. His numbers are not that good in T20 cricket. However, when you place such a huge bid, you say how can you make him sit out. So that pressure will be there on them,” Pathan said.

“I believe Pat Cummins hasn’t yet proved himself in T20 cricket, forget about the IPL, even in Australian cricket. Does he captain Australia in T20Is? If he doesn’t even captain Australia in T20Is, there will be a question mark on such a huge price tag,” he added.

Cummins showcased his leadership prowess by leading the Australian cricket team to wins in the World Test Championship final and the 2023 World Cup. Despite his success in longer formats, the ace fast bowler hasn’t captained the national team in this format.

The 30-year-old bowler has secured 45 wickets in 42 IPL matches at an average of 30.16 and an economy rate of 8.54. He has taken 55 wickets in 50 T20Is with a reasonable economy rate of 7.37. Cummins hasn’t played a T20 match since the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Slight Headache In Choosing The Playing XI – Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan shared insights on SunRisers Hyderabad’s squad dynamics, highlighting the positive challenge of selecting the best playing XI. Pathan said that Wanindu Hasaranga’s inclusion in the team would improve the strategy and enhance the team’s performance.

“They will have a slight headache in choosing the playing XI but that’s a good thing. It’s better to have that headache instead of not having options at all. I feel the SunRisers will have a different combination than what they had last year, which I feel is a good change.”

“In the combination that is created, the shortcoming that has been there for the last few years can be overcome if they regularly play one player in the playing XI, that is Wanindu Hasaranga,” Pathan concluded.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) finished at the bottom of the table in the 2023 IPL season, having secured only four wins out of 14 matches. This prompted a management restructuring before the upcoming IPL season

SRH made five other purchases during the IPL auction, spending a total of Rs 10.30 crore. Wanindu Hasaranga was acquired at his base price of Rs 1.50 crore, along with Travis Head (Rs 6.80 crore), Jaydev Unadkat (Rs 1.60 crore), and Akash Singh and Jhathavedh Subramanyan (both Rs 20 lakh each).

When it comes to giving a fitting response, there are very few cricketers in the world at the moment who are better than Australia captain Pat Cummins. Time and again, the star bowler has proved that he is one of the best in the business when it comes to delivering some brilliant replies.

He was at his best when Australia were in England for the Ashes last year. Australia faced severe criticism from the English media after Alex Carey’s controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow.

Pat Cummins, however, never really let the English media come out on top. In one of the press conferences during the Ashes, he was asked if Australia would resort to under-arm bowling. In reply, the Australia pace spearhead had hilariously said:

“Depends how flat the wickets get. Might be an option to turn to.”

He also delivered some iconic lines during the ODI World Cup in India where he led his team to glory. Pat Cummins showed his witty side once again and this time, he was up against a fan on Instagram. He recently posted a photo of himself and his wife on the social media platform. In the comment section, the fan wrote: “I am Indian I love you your wife.”

Pat Cummins noticed the comment and decided to react to it although hilariously as he wrote: “I’ll pass it onto her!”

A memorable 2023 for Pat Cummins:

Pat Cummins enjoyed a stellar 2023 as he excelled as a bowler as well as a captain. While not many were expecting him to do well as a captain, the Australia star proved his critics wrong and showed that fast bowlers can become good leaders as well.

Under his captaincy in 2023, Australia won the World Test Championship by beating India in the final before retaining the Ashes after drawing the series 2-2 in England. It was followed by a stunning triumph in the World Cup where Australia beat India in the final. Last month, he won the Sir Garfield Sobers Award as the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year. The right-arm pacer was also named as captain of the ICC Test Team of the Year.

The pocket-size dynamite, David Warner played his final competitive international game in Australia yesterday and capped off the match with a sensational 49 ball 81 runs during the Aussies’ unsuccessful chase of 221 runs against the West Indies in the series concluding 3rd T20I at the Optus Stadium in Adelaide.

Following his last appearance in National Colors Down Under, Warner claimed that he was well and truly done before affirming that it was time for the youngsters to take over.

Despite David Warner’s tremendous effort, Australia under the captaincy of Mitchell Marsh, lost by 37 runs but they claimed the 3-match T20 series by a margin of 2-1. The Aussies were coming on the back of a 3-0 whitewash of the West Indies in the ODI series after a 1-1 draw in the 2-match Test series.

Now the Australians will shift their focus to their upcoming tour of New Zealand which starts exactly in a week. A full-strength squad as well as a playing XI will be on display for the series which includes 3 T20Is and 2 Tests of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

While David Warner won’t be a part of the Test team as he retired from the format last month, the 37-year-old will feature in the T20s scheduled to take place on the 21st, 23rd, and 25th February at Wellington and Auckland. He will enter the series with form and rhythm on his side.

The Southpaw was adjudged as man of the series for his two 50+ scores in the T20 series against West Indies. Warner had scores of 70, 22, and 81 in Brisbane and Adelaide and he was easily the main reason why the Baggy Greens completed back-to-back white ball series wins.

After the match ended, David Warner, while speaking in a match presentation, revealed that it was his final outing on home soil and that now it was time for the upcoming generation to take over from him and keep the Australian flag on top wherever they go, something he did so well in his illustrious career.

“I’m well and truly done. It’s time for the youngsters to come through and showcase their talents. We’ve got extreme talent here and you’ve got a lot of the guys here from Perth that are in this team at the moment. We’re in good stead for the future.” – Warner told Adam Gilchrist via Fox Sports.

“Freshening Up And Spending Some Time With The Girls”, Says David Warner On His Post Retirement Plans

When asked about his plans after retirement, David Warner responded that he would take his time to freshen up and spend quality time with his family. He mentioned that he would be looking after their daughter’s schooling and sporting activities and just lying on his bed. But he still has about 4-5 months before doing so.

After the New Zealand series, Warner will be heading to New Delhi to join the Delhi Capitals squad for IPL 2024 before heading back to Australia and leaving for the USA and West Indies for the 2024 T20 WC.

“Freshening up and spending some time with the girls. Not sure that’s going to freshen me up but it’ll be great to spend some time with them and work on their schooling and sport and just be home in my bed.” – David Warner concluded.

The third and final T20I between Australia and West Indies played on Tuesday (February 13) was a special game for veteran opener David Warner. It was his last international match in Australia. The left-handed batsman had already retired from Tests and ODIs earlier this year and his latest decision means the upcoming T20 World Cup is likely to be his last-ever assignment in international cricket.

David Warner scored a fine fifty in his last T20I innings on home soil although his efforts were not enough for Australia to win the game and clean sweep the three-match series.

The star batsman smashed 81 runs off 49 balls with the help of 9 fours and 3 sixes. Australia, however, failed to chase down 221 runs and eventually lost the game by 37 runs. The hosts finished on 183 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs with David Warner being the only player to score a fifty.

“Well and truly done. It’s time for the youngsters to come through and showcase their talent. We’ve got extreme talent here. We’re in good stead for the future,” he said after the match.

David Warner creates another record:

In his final international game on home soil, David Warner added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap. The fine half-century helped him become only the fifth player in history to complete 12,000 runs in T20s. He is also the first Australian to achieve this incredible feat.

The left-handed batsman moved ahead of Virat Kohli in the list of most runs in the shortest format of the game. David Warner has now 12033 runs in T20s with the help of 8 centuries and a staggering 101 half-centuries. On the other hand, Kohli has 11994 runs in T20s. The former India skipper will have the opportunity to become the first-ever Indian to complete 12000 runs in T20s in the forthcoming IPL.

The overall list is led by West Indies’ Chris Gayle who has scored 14562 runs. He is the only player who has touched the 14000-run mark in T20s. At number two is Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik followed by West Indies’ Kieron Pollard, and David Warner. England’s Alex Hales complete the top five.

Most runs in T20s:

  • Chris Gayle – 14562
  • Shoaib Malik – 13096
  • Kieron Pollard – 12625
  • David Warner – 12033
  • Alex Hales – 12089

Veteran left-arm pacer Trent Boult has returned to the New Zealand T20I squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia on home soil. Trent Boult will be part of the national team in the shorter format of the game after a hiatus of 15 months.

Trent Boult will join the team for the second and third matches of the series, having last appeared in this format during the 2022 World Cup against Pakistan. Pacer Tim Southee is scheduled to play in the first T20I to manage his workload before the Test series.

Trent Boult’s Last Appearance For New Zealand In ODI World Cup 2023

The left-arm fast bowler secured eight wickets from five matches at an average of 18.50 during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. Overall, Trent Boult has amassed 74 wickets from 55 T20Is at an average of 22.5. He last played for New Zealand in the 2023 World Cup.

Kane Williamson To Miss T20I Series Due To Paternity Leave

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will be absent from the series due to paternity leave, with Mitchell Santner stepping in as the interim skipper. Additionally, the team will be without the services of all-rounder Daryll Mitchell, who is sidelined due to a foot injury.

Rachin Ravindra and all-rounder Josh Clarkson have been included in the 14-member squad. With Williamson’s absence, Clarkson is expected to make his debut for New Zealand in T20Is. Ravindra is currently showcasing his all-round skills in Tests against South Africa.

It’s Great To Have Rachin Ravindra – Chief Selector

Chief Selector Sam Wells expressed confidence in the squad despite the absence of key players. Sam Wells praised Josh Clarkson for his batting prowess and promising bowling performance in his debut ODI series against Bangladesh.

“It’s never ideal missing two of your best players for such a big series, but in saying that, we do have a lot of faith in the guys coming in. Both Josh and Rachin have been in our white-ball squads this summer and it’s really exciting for them to now get this opportunity,” Sam Wells said.

“Josh hits the ball as long and as hard as anyone and we were encouraged by his performances with the ball in his maiden ODI series against Bangladesh before Christmas. Rachin’s talent and class has been clear to all over the past six months, and similar to Josh, it’s great to have his all-round skill-set to call on in this squad,” he added.

New Zealand is set to take on Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh, in three T20Is, with the first match scheduled to begin on February 21 at Sky Stadium in Wellington. The two teams will engage in a two-match Test series following the conclusion of the T20I fixtures.

New Zealand Squad: Mitchell Santner (c), Finn Allen, Trent Boult (games 2 & 3), Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Devon Conway (wk), Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Adam Milne, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Seifert (wk), Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee (game 1)

Seems as if Australia has learned from the mistake they made in the 2nd T20I against West Indies when their players including left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson who removed the bails himself, did not appeal for the run-out attempt of  Alzarri Joseph who was clearly out but eventually stayed in the crease after Australian players did not appeal and the umpire as a result did not go upstairs to have a check.

In the ongoing series concluding 3rd T20I between the two teams, another incident of this sort occurred but this time the Australian players were quick to appeal.

It unfolded during the 4th ball of the 4th over bowled by Jason Behrendorff when top order batsman Roston Chase wanted to complete a single after hitting the ball towards mid-off.

The ball was quickly picked up by Mitchell Marsh who threw the ball straight into the stumps at the non-striker’s end to make amends, everyone in the Australia team shouted out with all of the strength in their lungs and it also led to mid-on fielder Tim David to laugh.

In the commentary box too, Mark Howard was thrilled by the loud appeal from the fielders which reminded them of the 2nd T20I incident. Actually what had happened was that Alzarri Joseph had called for a run but he fell well short of his ground before Spencer Johnson had run him out.

While a few Australian players started celebrating automatically, the umpire showed no signs of getting to a decision as no one appealed. It created a massive stir on social media and questions were raised about the credibility of the umpire who was just doing his job concerning the rules.

Article 31.7 of the ICC rule book states that “Neither umpire shall give a batter out, even though he/she may be out under the Laws, unless appealed to by a fielder. This shall not debar a batter who is out under any of the Laws from leaving the wicket without an appeal having been made.”

In that regard, the umpire was right in his place and to take no chance at all again, Australia appealed but their timing was not right as Roston Chase entered the crease in time before the ball struck the led stumps.

Watch Australia’s Mistake Amendment Appeal Video

Meanwhile, the West Indies are currently aiming to conclude their month-long tour of Australia by claiming a victory today in the 3rd T20I which could be their first win of the white-ball leg. They were whitewashed 3-0 in the ODI series and have already lost the T20 series after the Aussies claimed the first two matches in Brisbane and Adelaide.

And the visitors have done quite well in their initiation towards a win today. After winning the toss, they asked the hosts to bowl first, and following a crumbling start, West Indies have recovered very well through substantial knocks from Roston Chase (37 off 20), Rovman Powell (21 off 14), Shrefane Rutherford (67 off 40) and Andre Russell’s blistering (71 off just 29).

That has helped the Windies set up a target of 221 and now the onus is all upon the bowlers to save the team from suffering another white ball whitewash.

Australian middle-order batter Marnus Labuschagne will make his senior captaincy debut for a revamped Queensland Bulls team in a Marsh Cup match. Marnus Labuschagne will have an opportunity to showcase his leadership skills against South Australia.

Marnus Labuschagne has been named captain for Queensland’s final Marsh Cup fixture due to the absence of Usman Khawaja and Jimmy Peirson, who is sidelined with a knee issue. The Bulls will face South Australia at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide on Wednesday.

Labuschagne debuted for the Bulls in 2014 and will captain a Queensland team for the first time since his under-19 days. The squad comprises Australian cricketers Ben McDermott, Matthew Kuhnemann, Gurinder Sandhu, Mitchell Swepson, and Matthew Renshaw.

The No.3 batter endured a challenging run of form during the Australian summer. The 29-year-old batter struggled against the West Indies, registering scores of 10, 1*, 3, and 5 in the two Tests. He scored 26 runs in the lone innings during the ODI series against the Windies.

I’ve Said To Marnus Labuschagne As Well – Steve Smith

Steve Smith acknowledged that Marnus Labuschagne may not have achieved the desired results in the test series but emphasized his potential as a skilled player. Smith advised Labuschagne to focus on the basics and trust his instincts while batting in matches.

“I think he’ll be the first to admit that he probably hasn’t got the scores on the board that he would have liked, but I think he feels like he’s batting well and we know how good of a player he is,” Smith said.

“I think as batters we’re always sort of searching for that perfection, and sometimes when you do try that little bit too hard it makes it that little bit further away. He’s definitely a thinker, sometimes maybe an overthinker, which I’ve said to him as well.”

Marnus Labuschagne Named In Australia’s Test Squad For New Zealand Tour

Cricket Australia (CA) recently named a 14-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand in away conditions. Marnus Labuschagne secured his place in the squad despite his disappointing performances in red-ball cricket in recent times.

The opening Test is set to commence in Wellington on February 29, followed by the second match in Christchurch on March 8. This marks Australia’s first tour to New Zealand since 2016. The two teams will engage in a three-match T20I series before the red ball matches.

Following Lance Morris’ side strain during the West Indies ODI, all-rounder Michael Neser has been brought back to Australia’s squad. Neser is the only change from the previous Test squad and will serve as the backup pacer along with Scott Boland for the upcoming tour.

Australia’s squad to face New Zealand: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Michael Neser, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith (vc), Mitchell Starc.

The AUS vs WI 3rd T20I will be played in Perth on February 13 Tuesday. The match starts at 1.30 pm IST. Australia have already won the series with two back-to-back wins and is looking for a clean sweep.

Austral;ia won the first T20I by 11 runs and the second by 34 runs. In both games, Australia scored over 220 with the bat and their bowlers backed it up with good performances on the field.

Glenn Maxwell’s fifth T20I toh highlighted Australia’s innings in Adelaide. He scored 120 to take the Aussies to a mammoth 241/4. David Warner (22), Mitchell Marsh (29), Marcus Stoinis (16) and Tim David ( 31 off 14) also came up with crucial contributions in an innings dominated by the Big Show. He hit 12 fours and eighth sixes in his 55-ball knock.

In the chase, the Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Skipper Rovman Powell (36), Andre Russell (37 off 16), and Jason Holder (28 off 16) were the key contributors. Russell with his recent batting form batted down at seven when he needed to bat up in the order. Nicholas Pooran and Powell themselves needed to carry on longer.

West Indies were expected to bounce back in the AUS vs WI T20I series but they have been well and truly outplayed. This T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 will come back to haunt them.

Two back-to-back wins have now taken Australia ahead of the Windies in the head-to-head count. 11-10 is the count now in favour of the Aussies who are keen on completing a clean sweep.

West Indies led by Rovman Powell needs to think about how can they make a comeback in the series. The senior players like Russell. Holder, Pooran will have to take the lead in the final T20I and make it work for the visitors. Since leveling the Test series, West Indies lost the three-match ODI series and are now on the brink of being whitewashed in the T20I series.

Australia are led by Mitchell Marsh in the series. While it was David Warner in the first T20I, it was Maxwell in the second. The team always finds different players standing up for the team in different matches.

There has been a visible difference in the form of players from both teas throughout the series. The two teams have played 146 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 21 T20Is, Australia have won 11 games while West Indies 10.

When comparing the two teams, the current Windies side looks more experienced in the format than the Aussies given their experience of playing across various T20 leagues. However, at home, the Australian players in known conditions have managed to bring the best out of them.

Glenn Maxwell scored his fifth T20I century to power the Aussies to a mammoth 241/4. He hit 12 fours and 8 sixes in his knock at a strike rate of 241.67. There were scores from David Warner (22), Mitchell Marsh (29), Marcus Stoinis (16) and Tim David (31*).

Wets Indies in response scored 207/9 and fell short by 34 runs. Stoinis picked up three wickets while Josh Hazlewood and Spencer Johnson took two each. The Aussies have put in emphatic performances in the first two matches so far and are looking to make it 3-0.

Before the start of the T20I series, the Aussies were behind the WIndies in the head-to-head count. However, after back-to-back wins, they are now ahead by 11-10 in 21 matches between the two sides.

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh in this T20I series. The team is struggling with injury concerns for key players. Matthew Short is out of the T20I series with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Nathan Ellis is out with a rib injury and Spender Johnson has been named as his replacement. Given how the Aussies performed in the last match they are likely to field an unchanged XI.

Perth is all set to host the AUS vs WI 3rd T20I on February 13. The match starts at 1.30 pm IST. Australia have already won the series by winning the first two Test matches and is looking for a clean sweep.

Glenn Maxwell’s record fifth T20I ton became the headlines after Australia’s second T20I win. He overtook Rohit Sharma’s tally of four T20I centuries and surpassed him in the second T20I. All the Windies bowlers had an economy of over 10 runs per over courtesy of Glenn Maxwell’s brute force.

West Indies in their chase, reached as far as 207/9. Skipper Rovman Powell top-scored with 63. Andre Russell (37) and Jason Holder (16) batted way below than their liking as they did not get enough deliveries to make a match interesting.

This was after their top order did not contribute substantially to the chase. Johnson Charles (24) and Nicholas Pooran (18) did not last long.

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh. He will replace Pat Cummins who is rested for the series. Mitchell Starc is also rested from the series. Josh Hazlewood is back for the T20I series after resting from the third ODI.

Australia will miss Matthew Short. He is ruled out with a hamstring injury. The Aussies will also miss Nathan Ellis who is out with an injured rib cage. The management has named Spencer Johnson as his replacement.

West Indies will be led by Rovman Powell. The squad sees the return of specialist players like Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran who were busy playing in the ILT20 league.

Despite the return of their T20 specialists, the team could not turn up for the series. The T20I series was expected to be a much closer contest after the ODI series lost, but the visitors have been completely outplayed.

The two teams have played 146 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 21 T20Is, Australia have won 11 games while West Indies 10. In 120 Test matches between the two sides, Australia have won 61 matches and West Indies 33.

The series was seen as a dress rehearsal for both teams for the T20 World Cup 2024 of which the Windies are one of the co-hosts. The way the series went so far, only one team benefitted from it. The Windies have won the tournament twice while Australia once in 2021.

AUS vs WI Weather Report Live Today And Pitch Report Of Perth Stadium– 3rd T20I, 2024

The Perth stadium has one of the fastest tracks in international cricket. It was even pace bounce and carry. Australia are looking to bounce out their opposition as no players of the Windies team are comfortable against the pace of the opposition.

Perth has hosted only seven T20is with five teams winning the match chasing. Given Australia’s dominance with the bat so far in the series, this is expected to be another high-scoring contest.

The temperature will be around 35 degrees on Tuesday, February 13. The AUS vs WI 3rd T20I starts from 1.30 pm local time. The weather so far for the T20I games has been very suitable for cricket. It drops down to around 18 degrees in the evening. The weather will remain fair and clear with no chance of rain.

The AUS vs WI 3rd and final T20I will be played in Perth on February 13. The match starts at 1.30 pm IST with West Indies looking to avoid a clean sweep. Australia won the first two games and won the series already.

Australia won the first T20I by 11 runs in Hobart. The second 20I was designed by Glenn Maxwell’s fifth T20I ton. He is the only batter now with five centuries in the format. Australia powered to 241/4 batting first. Maxwell hit 12 fours and 8 sixes during his knock.

The Windies reached as far as 207/9 in the chae with power-hitters Andre Russell (37), Rovman Powell (63), and Jason Holder (16) scoring the runs after the top-order failed to give them a good start. Marcus Stoinis picked up three wickets while Josh Hazlewood and Spender Johnson picked up two each to limit the Windies.

The ODI series loss highlighted the flaws within the cricket board in identifying talent. Now with the T20I series also lost, the West Indies cricket team has serious problems before the T20 World Cup of which they are one of the hosts. Skipper Rovman Powell has a lot to think about ahead of their next game on Tuesday.

The two teams have played 146 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 21 T20Is, Australia have won 11 games while West Indies 10. The T20I series kicks off the preparations of both teams for the T20 World Cup 2024.

AUS vs WI Match Preview- 3rd T20I, 2024

Australia

Australia have dominated the West Indies well and truly in all departments. The team is in a pretty good head space ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

David Warner performed with the bat in the first T20I while Maxwell mounted the challenge for West Indies in the second. The all-rounders have gone about doing their job in the games so far as well.

Speaking about the Aussie bowling unit, Josh Hazlewood has led the attack in the absence of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. Jason Behrendorff and Spencer Johnson have made the most of their chances in the absence of the senior pacers, and Adam Zampa the specialist T20I spinner has made his presence felt as well.

All in all the bowling and the batting have looked good in the series and will look to continue the good work. Having won the second T20I comfortably, Australia might not consider making any changes.

Australia Squad

Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Jason Behrendorff, Tim David, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa

West Indies

After the ODI series loss, West Indies were expected to bounce back in their favorite format. However, they have been well and truly outplayed. They had their specialists heading into this series with a fair amount of T20 cricket across various T20 leagues.

However, they have not been able to adjust themselves to the conditions in Australia. The bowlers have gone for too many conceding over 200 runs in both the games. The batters despite their big-hitting ability have failed to chase down totals.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup, West Indies, who are one of the hosts of the event need to identify the areas where they are falling behind. The absence of a senior spinner like Sunil Narine is among one of the many reasons.

The bowlers have gone for plenty and the sea =m dominated attack brings a lot of sameness to the bowling attack as well. More than their batting they need to work on their bowling unit if they want to win the T20 World Cup at home.

West Indies squad

Rovman Powell (c), Shai Hope, Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Oshane Thomas

Australia and West Indies go head to head in the AUS vs WI third T20I in Perth on February 13, Tuesday. The match starts at 1.30 pm IST and concludes the three-match series. The visitors were completely outplayed in the first two games.

Australia have won the first two games and are looking for a clean sweep. They won the first T20I by 11 runs and the second by 34 runs. In both games, they scored well over 200 runs and won by comfortable margins.

The Aussies scored a mammoth 241/4 in the second T20I, powered by Glenn Maxwell’s fifth T20I ton. He is now the only batter with five centuries in the format overtaking Rohit Sharma’s tally of four. David Warner (22), Mitchel Marsh (29), Marcus Stoinis (16) and Tim David (31 off 14) played their part in the game.

West Indies chasing 242 to win ended at 207/9. Rovman Powell the skipper scored 63 while Andre Russell (37) and Jason Holder (28) came up with contributions as well. There was no contribution from any top-order batter which is a concern for the team heading into the final T20I.

Australia have now moved ahead of West Indies in head-to-head contests in AUS vs WI T20Is. Australia after two back-to-back wins have now won 11 matches while West Indies 10. The two teams have played 146 ODIs with the Aussies winning 79 matches and West Indies 61. In 120 Test matches, Australia have won 61 while the Windies 33.

The series kicked off preparations for both teams for the T20 World Cup 2024. West Indies will be led by Rovman Powell while Mitchell Marsh leads Australia. Both teams have their T20 specialists back for the series as well. However, the Windies have not gained too many positives from the series so far.

The players from both teams were playing across various T20 leagues. The likes of David Warner, Andre Russell, and Nicholas Pooran were playing in the ILT20, while Marcus Stoinis and Tim David were playing in the SA20. Various Australian players are fresh off an entertaining BBL campaign.

Shimron Hetmyer has not found a place in the Windies T20I side. Australia, on the other hand, have injury concerns with Nathan Ellis. He is ruled out of the series with a rib injury and is sidelined from cricket for almost a month as per reports in Cricket Australia’s official website.

Spencer Johnson who broke a deal with Gujarat Titans in the IPL was named as his replacement. Mitchell Sarc and Pat Cummins have been rested for the series. Josh Hazlewood who missed the third ODI has been added to the T20I side as is Glenn Maxwell who missed the ODI series as well.

West Indies take on Australia in the third T20I looking to avoid a clean sweep. The visitors lost the first two T20Is and lost the series in the process. Since drawing the Test series, West Indies have lost the ODI series and are on the brink of losing the T20I series.

In both the T20Is so far, the Windies bowlers have conceded more than 200 runs. They lost the first T20I by 11 runs and the second by 34 runs. Windies who will host the T20 World Cup later this year have been undone in their favorite format.

Rovman Powell leads the side with their specialist T20 players back in the side. The likes of Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran joined the side after playing ILT20 in the UAE. They were expected to perform better in the first two games but have underplayed themselves.

The return of the T20I specialists surely strengthens the side. Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph provide the necessary experience to the bowling lineup. Shimron Hetmyer is not a part of the T20I side. The two teams have played 148 ODIs with the Aussies winning 78 matches and West Indies 61. In 21 T20Is, Australia have won 11, games while West Indies 10.

However, the team has not been able to play as a unit with all their big names returning. They now have a chance to avoid a clean sweep and finish the series on a high. They need to especially focus on their bowling unit and ensure that they do not ask their batters to chase heavy targets every time.

Kyle Mayers can come in for Brandon King in the final T20I. King scored 53 in the second T20I but Mayers brings the all-round factor in the side and is a more attacking batter than King.

Johnson Charles

Charles will be the other opener. He scored 42 and 24 in the first two games. However, he has not been able to convert his starts which he should look to do in the final T20I.

Nicholas Pooran (WK)

Nicholas Pooran

Poora will bat at three. He scored 18 each in the first and the second T20I. The southpaw should be a longer inning if West Indies are to win this final T20I. He is approaching 2000 T20I runs and has played 87 matches.

Rovman Powell (C)

Rovman Powell

Powell should bat at four. He scored 63 in the previous game but to no avail. The Windies skipper needs to be consistent with his knocks leading up to the T20 World Cup.

Sherfane Rutherford

Rutherford is another big hitter. He played both the games and scored 7 and 0. All these big hitters need to justify their quality leading up to the T20 World Cup. Rutherford has scored just 145 runs in 11 T20Is so far.

Andre Russell

Andre Russell

Russell scored 1 and 37 in the first two T20Is and was very expensive with the ball. The all-rounder has scored 884 runs in 72 T20Is and one short of 50 T20I wickets. He is targeting to play in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Jason Holder

The former skipper will slot in at seven. He [played two unbeaten knocks in the first two games and picked up wickets as well. He is another who is targeting to play in the T20 World Cup 2024. Holder skipped the Test and the ODI matches.

Romario Shepherd

Shepherd will slot in at eight. He scored 2 and 12 in the two games and picked up one wicket each in the first two games. He is another all-rounder with brute force as a batter and can bowl quality slower deliveries.

Akeal Hosein

Hosein can bat at nine and is the specialist T20I spinner for West Indies. He has remained wicketless in the series so far. He has picked up 37 wickets from 46 T20Is.

Alzarri Joseph

Joseph will lead the pace attack. He picked up two wickets in the first T20I and one in the second. So far in 21 T20Is, he has picked 35 wickets. The pacer is key to the team’s T20 World Cup dreams.

Gudakesh Motie

Motie concludes the likely XI for West Indies in the first T20I against Australia. He played in the ODI series as well. He has played just five T20Is so far picking up five wickets. he did not play in the first two games.

Opening batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk and pacer Wes Agar were added to Australia’s squad for the final T20I clash against West Indies. Notably, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Wes Agar have not played any T20I match in their international career so far.

21-year-old Fraser-McGurk recently made his international debut in the ODI series against West Indies. The right-handed batter was part of the last two ODI games against West Indies, which Australia won comfortably.

On the other hand, 27-year-old pacer Wes Agar returns to the national side after July 2021, when he played two ODIs for the team against West Indies. He failed to get any wickets in both games and was sidelined from the national squad for more than two years.

Australia is set to face West Indies in the final T20I game. The AUS vs WI 3rd T20I takes place on Tuesday, February 13 at Perth Stadium in Perth. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Wes Agar were added to the squad ahead of the final game.

Notably, Australia has already won the three-match series after winning the first two games. Since the AUS vs WI 3rd T20I encounter is a dead-rubber game for the hosts, they are highly likely to add Jake Fraser-McGurk and Wes Agar to the playing 11.

Jake Fraser-McGurk hit quickfire 41 runs in the 3rd ODI

While Agar struggled in his previous international outing in July 2021, McGurk impressed with his explosive batting show in the recent AUS vs WI ODI series. The right-handed batter made his ODI debut in AUS vs WI 2nd ODI.

However, he got out cheaply for 10 runs in the encounter. He bounced back in the next match. In the 3rd ODI in Canberra, the young batter slammed a quickfire knock of 41 runs off 18 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes.

Australia comfortably won the match by 8 wickets after chasing down a mere 87-run target set by the Caribbean team in the 1st innings. Winning the ODI game in just 6.5 overs, Australia also shattered many previous records.

Fraser earned a national call after his stunning show in the Big Bash League. Playing for Melbourne Renegades, the right-handed batter shammed 257 runs at a 158+ strike rate. He also slammed 18 sixes in the tournament.

AUS vs WI 3rd T20I will take place on Tuesday, February 13 at Perth Stadium in Australia. Australia leads the series 2-0 after winning the first two games by 11 and 34 runs respectively. Australia grabbed a clean sweep against West Indies in the ODI series earlier.

David Warner is one of the greatest openers of all time and has also achieved a lot in international cricket. He has won the World Test Championship with Australia in 2023, the T20 World Cup in 2021, and two ODI World Cups in 2015 and 2023. He recently retired from ODIs and Tests after the three-match Test series against Pakistan was concluded. Recently, the Zimbabwe all-rounder and his Dubai Capitals teammate Sikandar Raza talked about David Warner’s captaincy and how he has a very calm personality as a leader.

David Warner has captained Australia in some matches and has also led T20 franchises across the world. He led the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL trophy in 2016 beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the finals that season. David Warner is one of the greatest Australian cricketers and has a terrific record in all three formats for Australia. He was also leading the ILT20 franchise Dubai Capitals.

Sikandar Raza was asked about David Warner’s leadership finesse and he said that Warner as a leader allows the players to make their own decisions and does not want things to be done in his way. David Warner allows his bowlers to set their field and his batters to bat the way that will get the best out of them according to Raza. David Warner is a great leader and an even better batter who has scored ample runs in every format for Australia.

After being asked about Warner’s leadership, he told SportsNow, “No, no, no. I mean, David is quite big on the fact that we all know that, you know, we all have got here with the skill sets. That we have. All we have to do is use the same skill sets according to the conditions that are presented to us. So, no I wouldn’t say that he is strict and he wants things to be done his way.”

“David Warner Is Pretty Chill” – Sikandar Raza

“He allows you to have your field sets when you are bowling. He allows you to bat the way you think it will get the best out of you. David is pretty chill like that. And also, like, for the fact that we all know that you have been playing franchise cricket for so long,” Sikandar Raza added about David Warner as a captain.

David Warner is currently playing for Australia in the T20I series against West Indies where Australia has already taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series. They are looking to whitewash the West Indies team in the T20I series just like they did in the ODI series. The third and final T20I will be played on Tuesday, February 13.

Australia has won the ICC World Test Championship and ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in 2023 and if they are able to win the T20 World Cup in 2024, they will become the first nation to become World Champions in all three formats at the same time. Australia will face New Zealand in a three-match T20I series and a two-match Test series commencing on February 21, Wednesday.

David Warner on Sunday, went past Mohammad Rizwan to become the seventh-highest run-getter in T20I cricket. Warner scored 22 off 19 deliveries in the second T20I between Australia and West Indies to take his T20I runs tally to 2986 runs in 101 innings. He recently became the first Australian to play 100 or more matches in all three formats and now has gone past Mohammad Rizwan in the runs tally in T20Is.

David Warner is now just 14 runs away from the 3000-run mark in the T20I format and becoming the first Australian to score 3000 or more runs in all three formats of the game. He scored 70 off 36 in the first T20I against West Indies. Notably, it was his 100th T20I match and what makes it even more memorable is the fact that he now has the rare feat of being the only player who has played a fifty-plus knock on his 100th Test, ODI, and T20I appearance.

Mohammad Rizwan has scored 2981 runs in 78 T20I innings at an astonishing average of 48.87 whereas David Warner has amassed 2986 runs in 101 T20I innings at an average of 33.18. Mohammad Rizwan has smashed 26 half-centuries and a century in the shortest format whereas David Warner has smashed 25 half-centuries and a century in T20Is.

David Warner recently retired from Test and ODIs after the three-match series against Pakistan was concluded last month and now he is aiming to participate in the T20 World Cup which is scheduled for June this year. Warner has been one of the best openers in the shortest format and is a valuable asset to the Australians in the top order.

David Warner Scored A Half Century In The T20 World Cup Finals In 2021

David Warner was the Player of The Series in Australia’s maiden T20 World Cup winning campaign in 2021 where he scored 289 runs in six innings at an average of 48.17 including three half-centuries in the tournament. He is expected to display a similar performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 where Australia will be trying to win the tournament and become the first nation to be crowned World Champions in all three formats at the same time.

David Warner has the opportunity to complete his 3000 runs in T20Is in the third T20I against the West Indies which will be played in Perth. Australia has already won the series and is looking to whitewash the West Indies by 3-0 in the series. Australia also whitewashed West Indies in the ODI series after drawing the Test series 1-1. The first two T20Is of the series were won by Australia in Hobart and Adelaide respectively. The third T20I is scheduled for Perth on Tuesday, February 13.

Australia had a terrific 2023 where they won two back-to-back ICC events, the ICC World Test Championship and the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. They are now aiming to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and earn their second T20 World Cup title having previously won in 2021. Former Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy has slammed Andre Russell’s poor bowling show in the recent AUS vs WI 2nd T20I. Ian Healy feels that Andre Russell’s bowling was rubbish. The right-arm seamer leaked 59 runs in his 4 overs without a wicket in the match.

Notably, Andre Russell conceded 25 runs in the 20th over in the match. Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell stormed him for two boundaries and one six in the final over. Notably, Russell bowled two full-toss deliveries at the start of the over, one of which went to the boundary.

Glenn Maxwell was at his absolute best in the match. The right-handed batsman scored an unbeaten century off just 55 balls to register his 5th T20I ton. The right-handed batter shattered 12 boundaries and 8 sixes during his innings to drive Australia to a gigantic total of 241-4 in 20 overs.

Andre Russell was bowling rubbish: Ian Healy

During a chat on SENQ Breakfast, former Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy blasted Andre Russell’s dismal bowling show in the match. Healy said that Russell didn’t have to target Maxwell but he got aggressive.

“He was bowling rubbish. He didn’t have to target him. He was bowling him shin-high full tosses. Then he’d bowl a wide one which he (Glenn Maxwell) would carve up, which is one of his great shots. Then he’d walk across, he (Maxwell) would get a half volley on leg stump, and he’d flick it for six. Andre got aggressive, but he should get aggressive at himself because that was absolute poo,” he said.

That’s ridiculous: Ian Healy on Andre Russell’s batting order

Ian Healy, who played for Australia in over 100 ODIs and Tests, also feels that Andre Russell’s batting slot was ridiculous. Russell arrived to bat at no.7 in AUS vs WI 2nd Test.

“Where did he bat? Lower than midfield, he batted seven. That’s ridiculous. But he’s obviously selfish and that’s all he’s batting at. Otherwise, you’d have him at four, especially in a run-chase like that. It’s pathetic that the West Indies underuse him like we have underused Tim David in the past, but they’re slowly moving him up behind Maxwell,” the 59-year-old added.

Australia’s top order batsman Glenn Maxwell was in a raging mode last night when he smacked his 5th T20I century off 50 balls in the 2nd of a 3-match T20I series against the West Indies on home soil. After the match while speaking in a press conference, Maxwell opened up about the night that got him hospitalized due to excessive partying and alcohol.

Glenn Maxwell revealed that his family, especially his parents were extremely affected by that incident and that they were taken aback after getting to know that their son had been hospitalized on the 22nd of last month. That news went viral right after it was broken by the Australian media.

Questions were being constantly raised about his off-the-field activities and that Cricket Australia should be monitoring him to avoid such incidents in the future. Aussie captain Pat Cummins and head coach Andrew McDonald reportedly had a word with Maxwell following the incident and just asked him to keep his behavior and social activities in check.

When the reporters asked Glenn Maxwell to speak about the incident in detail yesterday during the press conference in the Optus Stadium at Adelaide, the right-hand explosive batter claimed that he knew he had an entire week off cricket and he just wanted to unwind for a bit but he didn’t know if the party will eventually take him to a hospital, in short he feels embarrassed 0f what transpired with him that night.

“I think probably it affected my family a little bit more than it affected me. I knew I had that week off. And obviously that incident was less than ideal, and the timing was. But I had that week off, I knew I had that week off away from the game.” – Maxwell said in a press conference at Adelaide.

Upon his return from his short setback, the 35-year-old scored just 10 runs in the 1st T20I against the West Indies in Brisbane in the 2nd T20 which took place yesterday, Glenn Maxwell brought out his vintage self and justified his nickname – the Big Show yet again.

Maxwell scored a record-equaling 5th century in the shortest format and he is now level with India captain Rohit Sharma in terms of most T20I centuries. He played out a man-of-the-match winning knock of 120* off 55 balls in Adelaide and scored most of Australia’s 1st inning total of 241, which they successfully defended through efficient contributions from Jason Behrendorff, Josh Hazlewood, Spencer Johnson, Adam Zampa and Marcus Stoinis.

Glenn Maxwell then went on to reveal his plans and how he is keeping himself fit ahead of Australia’s tour of New Zealand, the IPL, and then the T20 World Cup in June. The big hitter stated after he was discharged from the hospital, he felt very great about getting back to a disciplined life and says he’s ready for the things to come.

“It felt really good and refreshed once I got back. And it’s all been focused on getting myself ready for this series and what’s to come. We know we have got four international games until the (T20) World Cup and how it comes around pretty quick. And I just try to make sure I’m in as good a space that I can be for that tournament.” – Maxwell concluded.

A bizarre incident took place during the second T20I between Australia and West Indies at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday (February 12). The hosts were denied a run-out for not appealing during the closing stages of the game.

The incident took place in the 19th over of West Indies’ innings when the match was very much in Australia’s favor. The tourists needed an improbable 53 runs in the last two overs with just 1 wicket in hand. On the third ball of the over bowled by left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson, Alzarri Joseph hit the ball towards the cover region and ran for a single.

Mitchell Marsh quickly collected the ball and threw it at the non-striker’s end where Johnson took the bails off. The Australian fielders, however, seemingly assumed that Joseph was already inside the crease when Johnson broke the stump and decided against appealing for a run-out. The replay was then shown on the big screen and the Australian players started celebrating but their joy was cut short by umpire Gerard Abood.

The on-field umpire was heard telling the TV umpire ‘No appeal’ and stood by his decision. Marsh and his teammates were seen gathering around the umpire who was heard telling them: “Stop, stop, stop…there was no appeal.”

The players were heard expressing their frustration but it did not make much of a difference as Abood made it clear that Joseph would not be adjudged out since there was no appeal for a runout.

“Can we get on with the game, guys…guys we are getting into real poor territory,” the umpire told the players.

Talking about the rules, law 31.3, the timing of appeals, states: “For an appeal to be valid, it must be made before the bowler begins his/her run-up or, if there is no run-up, his/her bowling action to deliver the next ball, and before Time has been called.”

Australia thrash West Indies:

While Australia were denied the runout, they went on to register an easy win. The home side thrashed the visitors by 34 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Batting first, the hosts piled up 241/4 in the allotted 20 overs thanks to an unbeaten century from Glenn Maxwell. In reply, West Indies finished on 207/9.

Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan didn’t go easy on the Pakistan fans after India U19 suffered a disappointing loss against Australia in the final of the ICC U19 World Cup 2024. He thrashed the fans, saying their negative attitude reflects their mindset.

India were at the receiving end of a poor 79-run loss against Australia in the final of the ICC U19 World Cup 2024. It wasn’t a fairytale ending for the Uday Saharan’s team as after a dominating run in the tournament, they faced a loss in the final, which was their first defeat in the tournament.

India U19 played a dominating brand of cricket throughout the league stage and entered the semi-final with no losses under their belts. They came under pressure in the semi-final against South Africa but they held their nerves and found the way to make it through the final against Australia.

In the final, they had a great start to the match with the ball. Based on the efforts by Raj Limbani, who picked three wickets with the ball, they restricted Australia to a total of 253 runs. It seemed that they would pave their way to the easy win with the bat.

But this wasn’t the case as India’s batters tumbled and couldn’t get going at all. Adarsh Singh at the top played an innings of 47 runs and was the leading run-getter for the team. This speaks to the kind of performance that was on display by the boys in blue with the bat in the final of the tournament.

Australian bowlers kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals and put India under pressure. The Uday Saharan-led side were left tottering at 128/8 and the game was done and dusted before the 50 overs were bowled in the second innings of the game.

Murugan Abhishek and Naman Tiwari kept fighting hard till the end and added 46 runs together. They revived the hopes of the fans and took the team close to the target. But couldn’t take the team past the finishing line. The Indian team were bundled out for 174 runs and lost the game by 79 runs.

Australia since the last few months has been troubling India big time be it in Men, women’s, or U19 cricket. The Men in Yellow have thumped Team India in the final of all the ICC events since the last one year.

Keyboard warriors from across the border find pleasure in our youngsters’ defeat – Irfan Pathan

As India U19 suffered a disappointing loss in the final against Australia, fans from Pakistan seized an opportunity to troll the Indian team and fans. They mocked their rivals for losing another ICC title and extending their title drought.

Pakistan fans mocking India didn’t go well with Irfan Pathan. The former Indian all-rounder pointed out that despite Boys in Green not making to the final, social media users are trolling youngsters.

Taking to his Twitter account, Irfan Pathan explained: “Despite their U19 team not making it to the final, keyboard warriors from across the border find pleasure in our youngsters’ defeat. This negative attitude reflects poorly on their nation’s mindset.”

India U19 players Naman Tiwari and Murugan Abhishek kept the hopes of the Indian fans alive against the Australia U19 team in the final of the ICC U19 World Cup 2024. The match between the two teams took place at the Willowmoore Park in Benoni.

In the chase of 254 runs, India U19 didn’t get going at all. The batters failed to handle the pressure and lost wickets in quick succession of time. Australia bowlers were all over the opposition batters and picked 8 wickets in no time, taking the game away with ease.

India were left tottering at 128/8 inside the 38 overs. It was then that Murugan Abhishek and Naman Tiwari joined hands and tried to keep in the hunt. The duo held the fort and made sure that they took the game as deep as possible, frustrating the Australian bowlers.

Murugan Abhishek and Naman Tiwari added 46 runs together and tried to take the team close to the target. They gave their everything but couldn’t win the match as the Australia bowlers were all over the India batters and bundled them out for a low total to win the game for the team.

During the partnership, one thing that caught the attention of many was Naman Tiwari’s words to Murugan Abhishek. The duo knew that the match was far away from them but they made sure that they learned from the outing.

Naman Tiwari was heard saying to Murugan Abhishek: “Guru, yaad rakha, haarenge par seekh ke jayenge (Remember, we may lose but we will learn and go from here).”

While Murugan Abhishek scored 42 runs off 46 balls, Namam Tiwari ended with an innings of unbeaten 14 runs off 35 balls. Australia bundled out India for 174 runs to win the game by 79 runs. This was their 4th ICC U19 World Cup win.

Naman Tiwari picks two wickets with the ball for India

Naman Tiwari was touch-expensive with the ball for India but he made sure that he provided the team with crucial breakthroughs. He picked two wickets for the team and helped them reduce Australia to a total of under 260 runs. But the batters couldn’t cash on the efforts put in by the bowlers.

India captain Uday Saharan praised the efforts of the team, saying that they showed good fighting spirit throughout the tournament. He admitted that they couldn’t execute their plans but they learnt a lot. Speaking after the game, he explained:

I’m proud of the boys, they played really well. Showed good fighting spirit throughout the tournament. We played a few rash shots today, didn’t spend time in the middle. We were prepared but couldn’t execute the plans. Lots of learnings from this tournament, learnt a lot from the support staff and even during the games. We will try to keep learning and getting better,” He concluded

India were exceptional throughout the tournament as they displayed solid performances with bat and ball. They remained unbeaten in the league stage and then defeated South Africa in the semi-final. They entered the final as an undefeated team.

Australia won the toss and it was a brave call from them to bat in the overcast conditions. They didn’t have a great start as Raj Limbani yet again picked wicket early on and removed Sam Konstas for an 8-ball duck to jolt the opposition early.

Harry Dixon (42) and Hugh Weilbgen (48) then bailed the team out of trouble and stitched 78 runs for the second wicket. However, they couldn’t continue as they lost their wickets in a span of 5 runs and India was at the top, having reduced Australia to 99/3.

Harjas Singh then stood tall for his team and blasted a vital half-century. He scored 55 runs and was supported well by Ryan Hicks (20). Oliver Peake in the end played a vital hand for his team and made sure that his side ended up with a good total on the board

Peake remained unbeaten at 46 runs whereas Charlie Anderson (13) hit blows in the end as Australia ended with a total of 253/7 in their quota of 50 overs. For India, Raj Limbani was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 3/38 in 10 overs.

Apart from Raj Limbani, Naman Tiwari also picked two wickets whereas Saumy Pandey and Musheer Khan bagged one wicket each. Their decent efforts with the ball made sure that Australia didn’t go past 300 runs in the big final.

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell opened up about his 5th T20I ton that came in the second game of the ongoing three-match series against West Indies. He said that his parents were in the stands and he was delighted to end the Adelaide curse.

Glenn Maxwell lit up the Adelaide Oval on Sunday (11th February) as he played a blinder that forged Australia to win in the second T20I against West Indies. The all-rounder, who doesn’t possess a great record in Adelaide, made sure he ended the jinx.

Glenn Maxwell entertained the crowd big time and played some unbelievable shots in his innings. He oozed his class and made his parents proud with his stupendous innings. The right-hander was at his hitting best and brought up another T20I century.

Glenn Maxwell registered his century in just 50 balls and equaled Rohit Sharma‘s record for most tons in the T20Is. He ended with the knock of an unbeaten 120 runs off 55 balls to go with 12 fours and 8 sixes, batting with a strike rate of over 218.

Glenn Maxwell recalled how he injured himself last time when he played in Adelaide. He expressed his delight with his innings, saying that he feels nice to be making this outing as positive. Speaking to broadcasters, he explained:

“I got my parents here as well. So, um, had a few cursed Adelaide trips, Uh, with them coming over a couple of times. So I got injured. I think I broke my leg the last time they tried to come over to Adelaide. So, um, it’s nice to make this a positive one.”

Glenn Maxwell’s comments on Adelaide came in the wake of his recent hospitalization. The all-rounder spent a night in the hospital after he passed out while drinking with his friends.

I’ve relied on my hand speed to sort of get me out of trouble – Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell further talked about his batting, saying that he wanted to make the most of this opportunity. He revealed that he wanted to stay at the crease for as possible. He expressed:

“You think in your in your brain that you’ve actually probably got to make the most of this opportunity. You don’t get too many of them like in a T20 career when you’ve got a couple like a couple of short square boundaries and the wickets really nice and true. So I just try to stick it out there for as long as I could.”

While talking about his technique, Glenn Maxwell said that he is dependent on his hand to get out of trouble when his footwork is slow. He elaborated:

“I’ve, relied on my hand speed to sort of get me out of trouble if my foot works a little bit slow. So I sort of just trying to give myself the best chance to use my hands to guide into a gap and get over the infield.”

Glenn Maxwell will now be seen in action when Australia take on West Indies in the third T20I on 13th February.

Australia were able to win the second T20I against West Indies by 34 runs and also took an unassailable lead in the two-match series. A bizarre incident took place during the 19th over of the West Indies innings.

On the 3rd ball of the 19th over when Alzarri Joseph drilled a fullish-length delivery from Spencer Johnson towards the off-side for a single, he was well short of his crease and was clearly run out.

However, during the whole scenario, Alzarri Joseph wasn’t given out as none of the Australian players appealed for the runout. All the Australian teammates were celebrating, however, the onfield umpire said that the home side have not appealed due to which the batsman was considered not out. Fielder Tim David insisted that he had appealed but at last, Joseph was safe despite not making it to his crease on the other end.

As per the MCC rule book, a batsman can be run out whenever the opposition team appeals for it. The umpire has to give his decision of out or not out. However, if the opposition team doesn’t appeal the umpire decides as if the batsman is out or not out. He can also signal it as a dead ball if there is no appeal from the opposition team.

Watch: Bizarre incident takes place in Adelaide during Australia vs West Indies 2nd T20I

Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell was the star of the show in the second AUS vs WI T20I match. Maxwell slammed a brilliant century and played an innings of 120 runs from 55 balls, which included 12 fours and 8 sixes. Maxwell batted with a strike rate of over 218 and helped Australia put up a score of 241/4.

David Warner and Mitchell Marsh played innings of 22 and 29 runs respectively whereas Tim David proved the finish and was unbeaten on 31 runs.

While chasing down the target, apart from captain Rovman Powell no other West Indies batsman was able to stay at the crease for long and were dismissed cheaply. Powell played an innings of 63 runs from 36 balls and slammed 5 fours and 4 sixes during his stay at the crease. Andre Russell was the second-highest run scorer of the West Indies innings and played a cameo of 37 runs from 16 balls.

West Indies were able to level the two-match Test series against Australia by 1-1 as they achieved a historic victory during the second Test by seven runs. However, West Indies didn’t have a decent outing in the three-match ODI series and they suffered a whitewash by 3-0. The Men In Maroon also lost the first T20I match by 11 runs and now they have also lost the T20I series.

The third T20I match of the series will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth on February 13, 2024. West Indies would be hoping to end the series on a winning note and also avoid a whitewash.

Indian all-rounder Musheer Khan has been the find of the U19 World Cup 2024. Apart from being the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament, Musheer has taken seven wickets with the ball from six games and has showcased his all-round skills. Musheer also bowled an economical spell against Australia in the final of the U19 World Cup and gave away just 45 runs from nine overs and also picked up the wicket of Raf MacMillan.

On the fifth ball of the 39th over, Raf MacMillan played the ball straight back to Musheer Khan, who pouched a brilliant catch in his follow-through. The ball pitched in the line of the stumps and MacMillan was trying to play it straight down the ground. In the end, he ended up giving a catch to Musheer, who dived to his right and grabbed a stunner. MacMillan was dismissed for 2 runs off 8 balls.

Apart from Musheer Khan, skipper Uday Saharan, Sachin Dhas and bowler Saumy Pandey are some of the real positives from India from the U19 World Cup. Saharan is currently the top scorer of the tournament and has scored 389 runs from 6 games. Dhas has also scored 294 runs from six matches and has played some brilliant knocks in the whole competition, one such knock came against South Africa in the semi-final wherein he played an innings of 96 runs. Saumy Pandey is also the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament and has picked up 18 wickets from 6 games.

Indian pacer Raj Limbani was the star of the show for the Indian U19 team in the final against Australia. Limbani picked up 3 wickets by giving away just 38 runs in his spell of ten overs. Australia were only able to put up a score of 253/7 in Benoni and the Indian team would be aiming to chase down the score and win their 6th U19 World Cup.

The Aussies didn’t start well when Sam Konstas was dismissed for a duck by Raj Limbani. Harry Dixon and Hugh Weibgen put up a stand of 78 runs from 109 balls. Dixon got out for 42 runs from 56 balls and was dismissed by Naman Tiwari. Captain Weibgen also fell short of a half-century and got out for 48 runs from 66 balls to Tiwari.

Harjas Singh scored a half-century and played an innings of 55 runs from 64 balls. Harjas smashed 3 fours and 3 sixes during his stay at the crease. While Ryan Hicks scored 20 runs from 25 balls and made an important contribution to the innings,  remained unbeaten on 46 runs from 43 balls and hit 2 fours and 1 six during his stay at the crease.

Apart from the brilliant bowling performance from Raj Limbani and Musheer Khan, Naman Tiwari picked up 2 wickets whereas, Saumy Pandey picked up 1 wicket.

Australia have never defeated India in the final of the U19 World Cup. The Indian team has defeated the Aussies on two occasions which were in 2012 and 2018.

The Indian team is playing its fifth straight final of the U19 World Cup and have won 2 out of the 4 they have played ahead of the final of the 2024 edition of the tournament.

After a thrilling win in the first game in Sydney, Australia hosted West Indies in the second T20I match of the three-match series. The game between the two teams took place at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in the second T20I against West Indies. They didn’t have a great start to their innings as they lost Josh Inglis in the second over of the game. The keeper-batter perished for 4 runs off 6 balls.

David Warner (22) and Mitchell Marsh (29) then took the attack to the West Indies bowlers and made sure they brought Australia back into the game. The duo smashed bowlers all over the park and together added 43 runs for the second wicket.

But after that West Indies made a slight comeback and left Australia tumbling at 64/3. However, after that, it was Glenn Maxwell’s show. The batter wreaked havoc across the opposition’s bowling lineup and made them look clueless with his brutal power hitting.

Marcus Stoinis (16) and Tim David (31*) played handy knocks as well. But the real hero was Glenn Maxwell. The all-rounder slammed a sensational century, his 5th in T20I, and helped Australia post a gigantic total on the board, which at one stage didn’t look possible.

Glenn Maxwell ended with the knock of an unbeaten 120 runs off 55 balls. The batter had a strike rate of over 218 and also hit 12 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. His innings helped Australia post a total of 241 runs in their 20 overs.

For West Indies, Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 2/42. Apart from him, Alzarri Joesph and Romario Shepherd also picked one wicket each.

West Indies weren’t off to a good start with the bat. Brandon King (5) perished early. Johnson Charles (24) and Nichols Pooran (18) then hit some lusty blows and added 31 runs in 16 balls. However, they couldn’t continue the start they got and perished at crucial junctures of the game.

Australian bowlers then chipped in with quick wickets and put West Indies under immense pressure. The visitors were reduced to 63/5. It was then that Andre Russell did the carnage and brought his team back into the game with his brutal power-hitting.

Andre Russell slammed 37 runs in just 16 balls and helped West Indies go past 100 runs with ease. But Marcus Stoinis got the better of him as he perished in the 11th over of the innings. Skipper Rovman Powell then led from the front and kept his team in the hunt.

The India U-19 team is playing Australia U-19 in the finals of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024. Australia U-19 skipper Hugh Weibgen won the toss and elected to bat first at Willowmore Park in Benoni. India U-19 got the first wicket early as Raj Limbani cleaned Sam Konstas up by shattering his stumps with an incredible inswinging delivery. Sam Konstas was clean-bowled by Raj Limbani for a duck after facing seven deliveries.

Raj Limbani was brilliant with the ball against Sam Konstas as he set him up after bowling seven dot balls and then unleashed the inswinger which went right through the gate to crash into the middle stumps and Limbani got the breakthrough for India in this Under-19 World Cup finals. Raj Limbani took a figure of 3/38 in his 10 overs today and was brilliant with the ball against Australia in the finals. The ball he bowled to Sam Konstas was an inswinging delivery inviting the drive and Konstas went for it but missed it completely.

Australia Under-19 were not off to a good start as they lost their first wicket at the score of just 16 in the third over. India Under-19 started well with the ball but after the first wicket, the partnership between Harry Dixon and Hugh Weibgen started to build with both of them crossing the 40-run mark. However, both of them failed to score their half-century against India and were out before the team’s total could reach 100.

The ICC uploaded the video of Raj Limbani’s sensational delivery to dismiss Sam Konstas in the ICC Under-19 World Cup finals and captioned the video, “Beaten all ends up”. It was one of the best deliveries of the tournament and it came in the finals. India has already beaten Australia twice in the Under-19 World Cup finals in 2012 and 2018 respectively.

Australia U-19 scored 253/7 in their 50 overs in the finals and now India U-19 has to chase 254 to win the ICC Under-19 World Cup for the sixth time. They have already won the title five times and are currently the defending champion in this tournament. If India wins the match, they will become the second nation to win the Under-19 World Cup consecutive times. Only Pakistan has won the Under-19 World Cup consecutive times before in 2004 and 2006.

India won the Under-19 World Cup in 2000 under Mohammed Kaif, in 2008 under Virat Kohli, in 2012 under Unmukt Chand, in 2018 under Prithvi Shaw, and in 2022 under Yash Dhull. Uday Saharan can become the sixth Indian captain to lead his team to the title victory in the Under-19 World Cup. The Boys in Blue need 254 runs to win the final against Australia.

It will be interesting to see whether the India U-19 team can avenge the defeat of the senior team in the ODI World Cup finals in 2023 against Australia. India is the most successful nation in Under-19 World Cups and is looking to extend their record.

Australia’s star batter Glenn Maxwell reminded everyone why he is known as the big show of international cricket as he smacked a fantastic century off 50 balls to equal the record of Rohit Sharma’s tally of most centuries in the shortest format.

One of the moments to savor came during the 2nd ball of the 13th over when Maxwell played his world-famous switch hit to score a six off West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hossein.

Watch Here:

Glenn Maxwell was absolutely raging tonight and played out one of his finest knocks in white ball cricket. His bat remained a bit quiet in the 1st T20I at the Blundstone arena in Brisbane as he departed for a score of just 10 runs off 8 deliveries.

His quietness did not cost Australia that much as veteran opener David Warner was in beast mode, amassing 70 runs off just 36 balls at a strike rate of over 190. His knock was complimented by Josh Inglis’ 39 off 25, Tim David’s quickfire 37 off 17, and Matthew Wade’s finishing touch 21 off 14.

That helped the home team set up a target of 213 for the West Indies who were coming on the back of a 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series which took place right after the visitors defeated Australia at Gabba to level the 2-match Frank Worell trophy Test series.

In response, Rovman Powell’s side got off to a blistering start, given by openers Brandon King and Johnson Charles. The duo amassed an 89-run partnership before King’s departure for 53 off 37. Then the following batters – Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Shai Hope, Andre Russell, and Sherfane Rutherford all departed cheaply.

Number 10 batter Jason Holder provided some late blows but it was very late by then as Australia claimed the victory by 11 runs with Adam Zampa picking the most number of wickets – 3. David Warner was adjudged the man of the match for his 70-run knock.

And Glenn Maxwell’s blistering knock earlier today set up the stage for Australia to complete another victory to seal the series at the Optus Stadium in Adelaide. After this series, the Aussies will fly over to New Zealand to feature in a 3-match T20I series and a 2-match Test series for their next assignment in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

The series will be kicking off on 21st February with the T20I series which will also be both the team’s final breeding ground to prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies which starts from June 1 onwards.

Glenn Maxwell Equals Rohit Sharma’s Record And Smacks His 4th Century Out Of Last 9 White-Ball Innings

Glenn Maxwell’s 50-ball century has now helped him become just the 2nd batter after Indian captain Rohit Sharma to score 5 T20I centuries. His battering knock included 12 fours and 8 sixes at a crazy strike rate of 214 and played a major role in the home team’s successful setup of 242 runs as the target.

With his 55-ball 120, Glenn Maxwell has now scored his 4th century in his last 9 white-ball innings for Australia including the ODIs. He has had scores of 106, 41, 201*, 1, 2*, 12, 104*, 10, 120*.

Former India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has slammed the Kolkata Knight Riders’ thinktank for splashing a crazy amount of money on senior Australia pacer Mitchell Starc during the mini player auction for IPL 2024 last December at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai in what was the Australian’s first auction appearance since the 2018 edition.

Mitchell Starc was expected to generate a lot of interest at the auction table but very few were expecting him to walk away with a deal that will make him the most expensive entity in the Indian Premier League auction. His national team captain Pat Cummins had become the costliest buy momentarily before Starc’s name was put up by the auctioneer.

Cummins bagged a deal worth INR 20.50 crore in the capped bowlers slot. The Sunrisers Hyderabad had to get involved in a bidding war with franchises like Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore among others to get the signature of the marquee Australian for IPL 2024.

Moments after his acquisition by SRH, Mitchell Starc entered the fray and a lot of franchise owners showed interest in him before Gautam Gambhir-mentored Kolkata Knight Riders bagged his services for IPL 2024 by splashing INR 24.75 crore.

That triggered plenty of reactions from fans across social media platforms and also agitated a few cricket pundits in the country. Sunil Gavaskar has become the latest to react to KKR’s outrageous offer for Mitchell Starc.

Gavaskar claimed that KKR made an over-the-top kind of decision to get the 2-time Cricket World Cup winner and also stated that his price will be justified only if he is able to contribute to the team in winning causes.

“Over the top, to be absolutely frank. I don’t think anybody is worth that kind of money. If Starc can make an impact and win maybe four out of the 14 matches that he plays, then you can say money’s worth. Then if he makes contributions in the other games – absolutely fantastic,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports.

“He Has Got To Bowl Match-Winning Spells”, Sunil Gavaskar Opines On How Mitchell Starc Can Contribute For KKR

The 74-year-old who regularly appears for media duty during India’s cricket matches, affirmed Mitchell Starc to bowl match-winning spells in at least 4 league matches if not in all 14 matches in IPL 2024. Gavaskar also said that Starc must make it a habit to perform well against top teams like Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“He has got to bowl match-winning spells in at least four out of the 14 matches, and maybe the crucial matches against the Mumbai Indians, the Chennai Super Kings and RCB, because these three have top-class batting lineups. Bowl those teams out and you could even then say – money’s worth,” Gavaskar concluded.

KKR Full Squad for IPL 2024: Mitchell Starc, Sherfane Rutherford, Manish Pandey, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Gus Atiknson, Shakib Hussain, Chetan Sakariya, KS Bharat, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Ramandeep Singh, Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Shreyas Iyer (c), Jason Roy, Sunil Narine, Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, and Varun Chakaravarthy.

Glenn Maxwell wreaked havoc in Adelaide during the second T20I against the West Indies as he equaled Rohit Sharma’s record of the most number of centuries in T20Is.

He smashed his fifth T20I century scoring 120* off just 55 deliveries which included 12 fours and eight sixes. Maxwell batted at a strike rate of 218.18 and thrashed every bowler he faced. He was at his destructive best and helped Australia to post a mammoth 241/4 on the board and now West Indies needs to chase 242 to save themselves from a series defeat in the three-match T20Is

West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first only for Australia to bang them all over the ground and set a target of 242 for them in the second T20I. Glenn Maxwell was duly supported in his onslaught by Tim David who smashed 31 off just 14 deliveries with two fours and two sixes in his innings. The two of them added 95 runs for the fifth wicket and helped Australia to go past 240 in this contest against West Indies.

Glenn Maxwell has now equalled Rohit Sharma in terms of centuries in T20Is as both of them have now smashed five centuries in the shortest format in international cricket. Rohit Sharma smashed his fifth century against Afghanistan recently in the T20I series and now Glenn Maxwell has scored his fifth century against West Indies. Glenn Maxwell reached his century in just 50 balls. He has been one of the most destructive batters in world cricket right now and he is proving his worth in the ongoing T20I series.

He suffered from a fall after enjoying too much with his friends in a pub recently and was hospitalised. Maxwell was sore and embarrassed about the incident but he was determined that he would make up for it with his game and he smashed a brilliant ton against West Indies which will be etched in the history of T20Is.

Glenn Maxwell Equals Rohit Sharma’s Record In Fewer Innings

Most Hundreds in T20I:

Glenn Maxwell – 5* (94 innings)

Rohit Sharma – 5 (143 innings)

Glenn Maxwell took only 94 innings to reach five T20I centuries whereas Rohit Sharma took 143 innings to get to five centuries in the shortest format. The Indian skipper also has 29 half-centuries in T20Is whereas Glenn Maxwell has 10 half-centuries in T20Is. The Australian all-rounder has more centuries in the shortest format than in ODIs where he has only four centuries which also includes a double hundred against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Australia is currently in a very strong position and is highly likely to win the series by beating West Indies in this game as a target of 242 is far-fetched for this West Indies line-up. Australia won the first T20I by 11 runs and now they are ahead in the second T20I which is being played at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. The third T20I of the series will be played in Perth and West Indies will definitely hope to win the last match in this tour to end on a positive note.

Australian opener David Warner has been in staggering touch in the T20Is. The batter has shown glimpses of that in the ongoing second T20I against West Indies. The second game of the series between the teams is taking place at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.

Australia opted to bat first in the second match and it wasn’t a surprise that David Warner took them off the flier. The opening batter looked in a destroying mood right from the start and with the way he got off the mark made many stand and applaud him.

David Warner brought out an outrageous reverse sweep shot for six on the second ball of the innings. West Indies handed the responsibility to Akeal Hosein to bowl the first over of the innings but he wasn’t treated kindly by the Australian opener in Adelaide.

Akeal Hosein bowled a short ball to which David Warner premeditated it. He reversed sweep the ball over short third man for a six. It was more like a switch hit and it surprised the bowler as he didn’t expect the batter to play such a shot on the second ball itself.

Here’s the video:

David Warner right after that slammed a four and hit 10 runs in the first over. He played some crisp shots in his innings and made sure he put pressure on West Indies bowlers right from the start. He looked completely in control till the time he was batting.

With the way he was batting, it was expected that David Warner would end up with a big total. But he perished after a valiant start. The batter perished to Romario Shepherd in the 7th over as he attempted to play a big shot but was caught.

Romario Shepherd bowled a slower delivery to which David Warner lofted it towards mid-off. Sherfane Rutherford, who was stationed there moved across and took a safe catch. The batter ended with the knock of 22 runs off 19 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 115.79 and also slammed 3 fours and 1 six in his innings.

David Warner won Player of the Match in his 100th T20I

David Warner kickstarted the T20I series against West Indies on a high note. The batter played a sensational innings in the first match and helped his team win the game. In what was his 100th T20I, he made sure he set the stage on fire and made the occasion special.

David Warner slammed 70 runs off 36 balls and batted with a strike rate of around 195. He hit 12 fours and 1 six in his innings that powered Australia to a big total of 213 runs and subsequently won the game by the margin of 11 runs.

For his heroics, David Warner won the player of the match and also opened up about his innings. He said that he is pumped for the T20 World Cup 2024 and wants to play freely for the team. He had said:

“Pleasing to get the win on the board. Was a nice wicket to bat on and you have to make the most of those. Feel great and refreshed, I’m pumped. I want to play the T20 World Cup and it’s a good journey we’ve got going for the next 6 months. Pretty much the same squad going to New Zealand so it’s important we win there as well,” he concluded.

Fans on Twitter reacted after Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell slammed a brutal ton in the ongoing second T20I against West Indies. The second match of the three-match series between the teams is taking place at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.

Glenn Maxwell oozed his class in the ongoing game and made sure that he set the stage on fire. The batter came to bat when Australia lost early wickets and were tumbling at 64/3. The right-hander took charge and played and put his team in a dominating position.

Glenn Maxwell was at his exceptional best as he smashed the bowlers all over the park. The batter brought out his 360-degree best and made a mockery of the West Indies bowlers. The all-rounder made sure he left an impact right from the start.

Glenn Maxwell didn’t take time to settle at all. He took attack to the bowlers and brought up his 5th T20I ton. The right-hander registered his century in just 50 balls and helped his team post a big total on the board, in what is a virtual series decider.

Glenn Maxwell ended with the knock of an unbeaten 120 runs off 55 balls. The batter had a strike rate of over 218 and also hit 12 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. With his century, he also equaled Rohit Sharma‘s record of most centuries in T20Is, having hit 5 in his career now.

Glenn Maxwell’s innings helped Australia post a total of over 200 runs, which at one moment didn’t seem possible. Thanks to his valiant innings, the hosts ended with a total of 241 runs in their 20 overs. The all-rounder is now expected to play a huge role with the ball as well and help his team seal the game and series as well.

It was the ‘big show’ Glenn Maxwell, who was the highlight of the Australian innings during the second T20I match against West Indies. Maxwell slammed a brilliant century and once again proved why he is known to be one of the best hitters in the modern-day era. Maxwell played an innings of 120 runs from 55 balls and smashed a total of 12 fours and 8 sixes throughout his innings.

Glenn Maxwell smoked a 109-meter six against opponent pacer Alzarri Joseph. On the second ball of the 12th over, Maxwell cleared his front leg and smashed the ball towards the mid-wicket region. The ball went a long way back in the stands whereas the speed of the ball was around 144.2 kmph.

Watch – Glenn Maxwell smashes a 109-m monster against Alzarri Joseph

Courtesy of Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten century, Australia could put up a first-innings score of 241/4. The Aussies didn’t start well with the bat as they lost Josh Inglis for 4 runs. David Warner also was not able to do much and got out for 22 runs from 19 balls. Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh walked back to the dressing room for 29 runs from 12 balls. While the wickets kept on falling from one end, Maxwell took charge from the other end and continued to hit and smashed the West Indies pacers to all parts of the ground.

Marcus Stoinis got out for 16 runs whereas Tim David remained unbeaten on 31 runs from 14 balls and smashed 2 fours and 2 sixes. At last, Australia were able to put up a humongous target of 242 runs against the West Indies.

Glenn Maxwell also gave an example of his big-hitting during the ODI World Cup 2023 as well. Maxwell scored a brilliant double-hundred against Afghanistan during the round-robin match of the tournament when the Aussies were almost on the verge of losing the match.

With seven wickets down under 150 runs and 290 odd runs needed to win, Maxwell began to smash sixes against the Afghani bowlers and despite being cramped, he played one of the best innings of his international career and smashed a brave double hundred.

Glenn Maxwell will prove to be a very lethal player for the opposition in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. In the kind of form the right-handed batsman has been in for the last few months, he will surely be among the top run scorers of the biggest T20I competition in international cricket and can also help Australia win the T20 World Cup after 2021.

Getting back to the West Indies tour of Australia, the Men In Maroon were able to level the Test series by 1-1, whereas they had a poor outing in the three-match ODI series and faced a whitewash against the Kangaroos. West Indies showcased decent batting during the first T20I match of the series and just ended up losing the match by 11 runs while chasing down over 210 runs.

With the kind of batting lineup, West Indies, they cannot be considered out of the match whereas the Australian bowling attack is also a bit inexperienced and no other bowler other than Josh Hazlewood has much experience of bowling in international cricket.
