In a resounding display of sheer prowess and dominance on home soil, team India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, claimed a monumental victory that will be remembered for a long time as they doubled their lead in the 5-match Test series against England. The stage was set at the illustrious Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, where the hosts unleashed a dominant performance that left England reeling and claimed their biggest-ever win in a Test match by 434 runs.

England’s pursuit of a mammoth target of 557 runs was swiftly quelled by the relentless assault of the Indian bowlers. With precision and guile, they dismantled the English batting lineup, leaving them in shambles with a mere 122 runs on the board. It was a great result for India’s bowling attack which was led by Ravindra Jadeja from the front as he claimed a terrific 5-wicket haul after scoring 112 in the 1st innings. India’s strategy saw England struggle in the match.

The foundation of India’s triumph was laid by their splendid batting performances across innings. Setting up the imposing total was no mean feat, but the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Sarfaraz Khan, and Ravindra Jadeja rose to the occasion, setting up an imposing mountain for England to climb.

Rohit and Jadeja scored 132 and 112 respectively while Yashasvi Jaiswal smacked a splendid double hundred with Sarfaraz Khan scoring consecutive half-centuries across innings to become the 4th Indian batman to do so after Dilawar Hussain, Sunil Gavaskar, and Shreyas Iyer.

With back-to-back wins in Vizag and Rajkot, Team India now hold a commanding 2-1 lead in the series, along with a surge of positive momentum after a setback in the opening Test in Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Ben Stokes’ England find themselves in troubled waters, grappling with the daunting task of dethroning India’s dominance on home soil in red-ball matches since 2012.

As the series unfolds, England face an uphill battle to match the feat of the 2012 England team under Alastair Cook’s captaincy, which secured a 2-1 victory in the 4-match series. Yet, with standout performances from the likes of Jaiswal, Sharma, Khan, and Jadeja, Team India stand poised to extend their dominance and rewrite the narrative of cricketing supremacy on the grand stage.

Biggest run margin win for India, replacing their 372 runs against New Zealand in 2021

The significance of this victory cannot be overstated, as India claimed a staggering win by 434 runs, marking their biggest margin of victory not only against England but in their cricketing history overall. This triumph eclipsed their previous record, a 372-run win over Kane Williamson’s New Zealand at the Wankhede in Mumbai back in 2021.

The 3rd biggest victory for India came in 2015 against South Africa at the Arun Jaitley stadium when they won by 337 runs. The 4th win of this sort is the 321-run win over the Kiwis in 2016 and Indore’s Holkar Stadium while the 5th biggest win for them came against Australia in 2008 by 320 runs. India will now climb as high as 2nd in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle with this win.

Will Foster Stronger Relations Between The Two Nations – ACB Chief

ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf emphasized the significance of adding three ODIs to the Sri Lanka tour. He acknowledged the challenge of facing Sri Lanka in their own territory but expressed confidence in Afghanistan’s ability to embrace such difficulties.

“The addition of these three ODIs is a significant move to ensure a complete and comprehensive tour which not only provides good exposure to Afghanistan Cricket but will also foster stronger relations between the two nations. Playing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka is always tricky but is a challenge that Afghan Atalan can easily embrace,” Mirwais Ashraf said.

“The Year 2024 is a very busy and full of highly voltage competitions for the Afghanistan National Team which is a very good and positive sign for Afghanistan Cricket. The upcoming tours of India, and Sri Lanka, and then the home series against Ireland will help us to prepare the team for the much-important T20 World Cup. Eagerly looking for the multiple series upfront,” ACB CEO Naseem Khan added.

Before the upcoming tours, Afghanistan is set to engage in its first-ever bilateral series against India this month. The T20I series is scheduled to take place in India from January 11 to 17. Afghanistan is gearing up for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

Cricket Australia has unveiled its Test team of the year 2023. The Australian governing body has included just two Indian players in the team. Not a single batter from Team India has been included in the team as they picked players from almost every team.

Australia opener Usman Khawaja along with Dimuth Karunaratne are the two openers in the team picked by Cricket Australia in their Test XI. Both the left-handers were in prime form in the longest format of the game this year.

Khawaja was the leading run-getter in the Tests as he scored 1210 runs from 13 matches at an average of 52.60. On the other hand, Karnunaratne mustered 608 runs in six matches at an average of 60.8. They played a huge role for their respective teams in Tests.

New Zealand batter Kane Williamson makes the cut into the Cricket Australia Test team of the year. The right-hander played some great knocks for his team in the longest format of the game. Along with him, the English duo of Joe Root and Harry Brook also were picked for the team.

The trio were magnificent for their respective teams in the Tests this year. They were one of the main reasons behind their team’s success in the longest format of the game. Cricket Australia then picked Irish star Lorcan Tucker as the keeper of the team.

Lorcan Tucker was a revelation with the bat in the Tests this year. The keeper-batter played great innings against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and England in overseas Tests. His stupendous show with the bat was one of the major reasons behind him getting a nod ahead of others.

The Indian spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin made the cut into the Test team of the year by Cricket Australia. The duo spun around the opposition they played against and were crucial for the team’s success in the longest format of the game.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins has been named as the captain of the Test team of the year by Cricket Australia. The lanky pacer enjoyed huge success in the Tests this year. He bagged 42 wickets in 11 Tests this year and also won the WTC final as a captain of the team. He surely is the cricketer of the year for many because of what he did in not only Tests but also ODIs.

Apart from Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada and Stuart Broad are the other two pacers in the team. While the England pacer earned huge praise for his magnificent performance this year, Rabada was nothing short of exceptional in Tests.

Rabada recently picked a fifer in the Test against India. He was one of the main reasons behind South Africa’s massive win in the first game. India lost the game by the margin of innings and 32 runs.

Cricket Australia Picks Their Test XI of the year 2023

Here’s Cricket Australia’s Test XI of the year 2023

Usman Khawaja, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Lorcan Tucker, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada, and Stuart Broad.

Zimbabwe cricket team’s captain, Sikandar Raza, and Ireland cricketers, Curtis Campher and Joshua Little have been penalized for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first T20I match between Zimbabwe and Ireland at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday, December 7.

Sikandar Raza has been fined 50 percent of his match fee and has also been given two demerit points which means that he has been suspended for the remaining two matches of the ongoing series. This is because his accumulated demerit points have reached four within 24 months of his latest breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.

Curtis Campher and Joshua Little received one demerit point and were fined 15 percent of their respective match fees. This was their first breach within 24 months and thus they did not receive any suspension and will take part in the remaining two matches of the series.

All three of the aforementioned players were found to have breached Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.” Curtis Campher and Joshua Little were quick to admit the offense and they accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and, as such, a formal hearing was not required in their case.

Sikandar Raza’s Case Required A Formal Hearing

However, Sikandar Raza admitted to the offense but was hesitant to accept the sanction proposed by Mr Pycroft. The sanction was confirmed in a formal hearing on Friday, December 8 and he received suspension for two matches.

The incident involving the breach was that Sikandar Raza aggressively charged towards Curtis Campher and Joshua Little while pointing his bat towards them and breaking away from the umpire who tried to calm the situation. Raza was penalized 50 percent of his match fee and got two demerit points for his course of action.

Curtis Campher was charged with charging towards Sikandar Raza and side-stepping one of the on-field umpires who tried to stop his progress in order to handle the situation whereas Joshua Little was charged with making physical contact with Sikandar Raza after the latter complained about Little’s blocking his path when he was trying to take a run.

On-field umpires Iknow Chabi and Forster Mutizwa, third umpire Langton Rusere, and fourth official Christopher Phiri levied the charges on the three players. Ireland has announced two men’s squads for an upcoming white-ball tour to Zimbabwe in December, marking opener Paul Stirling‘s first series as the permanent white-ball captain. Paul Stirling has previously served as national team captain on an interim basis.

Ireland will play three T20Is and three one-day internationals during their upcoming tour. This tour marks the second bilateral series between the two nations within the same year. Ireland lost the T20I series 2-1 and the ODI series ended in a 1-1 draw last January.

The white-ball series will commence with a T20I series starting on December 7 at the Harare Sports Club. The T20 series was followed by a series of three ODIs scheduled for December 13, 15, and 17. All six limited-overs games will be played at the same venue in Harare.

This Tour Is Core To Our Preparations For T20 World Cup – Andrew White

Ireland men’s national selector Andrew White emphasized the significance of the upcoming tour, as it marks the beginning of a new phase under a new leadership setup. White stated that the tour serves as an essential part of their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024.

“This tour marks the start of a new cycle under a new leadership set-up, and we’re looking forward to seeing how this playing group evolves as it builds towards the next 50-over World Cup,” Andrew White said.

“However, before we get to that stage there will be two T20 World Cups to plan and prepare for, and this tour is core to our preparations for the T20 World Cup next June.”

“We showed the world what we were capable of at the last T20 World Cup, but with the talent and potential within this playing group, there is a belief we can push on and achieve even more.”

Paul Stirling To Lead Team In Both White Ball Formats

The Irish cricket team is scheduled to partake in a five-day training camp in Spain from November 19-23, before proceeding to Zimbabwe for the series. This pre-tour training camp in Spain is a vital part of the team’s preparation.

T20I squad: Paul Stirling (C), Mark Adair, Ross Adair, Andrew Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Josh Little, Graham Hume, Barry McCarthy, Neil Rock, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Theo van Woerkom, Craig Young.

ODI squad: Paul Stirling (C), Mark Adair, Andrew Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Josh Little, Graham Hume, Andy McBrine, Barry McCarthy, Neil Rock, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Theo van Woerkom, Craig Young.

On Tuesday, October 31, the veteran batsman Paul Stirling was named the permanent white-ball captain of the Ireland National Cricket Team following the resignation of Andrew Balbirnie.

On Tuesday, July 4, Balbirnie stepped down as the ODI and T20I skipper of his side following the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers debacle.

Andrew Balbirnie led the Ireland National Cricket Team in 89 matches across formats after taking over the job in 2019. Under his leadership, Ireland failed to perform well in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

Ireland were knocked out of the race for the World Cup 2023 in India after they lost 3 out of their 4 group-stage games. After they were knocked out, they won against Nepal and the USA to secure the 7th position on the points table.

After Andrew Balbirnie quit the role, Cricket Ireland had appointed Paul Stirling as the interim captain of the side. However, now he has been permanently given the captaincy position in ODIs and T20Is as the selectors look towards the next cycle of four years, which has three World Cups.

In an official statement issued by Cricket Ireland, Paul Stirling said that he doesn’t take the leadership role for granted and wants to lead Ireland to success in the next four years. He elaborated:

“Playing for Ireland has always been a source of pride for me and to be confirmed the permanent white-ball captain is a recognition I don’t take for granted. I have very much enjoyed working with Heinrich [Malan] and the coaching staff over the last few months as interim skipper, but we all know that we have potentially three world cup campaigns over the next four years and the work starts now.

“I said recently that ODI cricket was my favourite format, and to watch on as the 50-over World Cup has been underway is actually been a great motivator for me to ensure we are there at the next event in 2027. I know this desire is a common feeling throughout the squad, and so we’ll look to harness this drive into the next series scheduled for December.

“We also recognise that there is only eight months now to the next T20 World Cup, so the clock has well-and-truly started on our preparations.”

We’re delighted that Paul Stirling has accepted the role – Andrew White

The chief selector of Cricket Ireland, Andrew White, said that they are happy that the veteran batter Paul Stirling has accepted the leadership role in white-ball cricket. He elaborated:

“We’re delighted that Stirlo [Paul Stirling] has accepted the role and – despite working closely with him in an interim capacity over the last few months – it feels as though we are now at the start of a new cycle with a lot of cricket coming our way over the next four years.

“The splitting of the white-ball and red-ball captaincy is an important piece for us, as the responsibilities both on-field and off-field as a captain are immense. We believe Andrew Balbirnie has much to give in red-ball leadership and want him to continue on in that capacity, while Paul will focus on the ODI and T20 disciplines.

“This captaincy delineation has no bearing on either player’s participation in any of the three formats, and we would expect both Paul and Andrew to be in consideration in all three formats into the foreseeable future.

“To have Paul and Andrew, with 600 caps of experience between them, as our white and red ball captains respectively means we have a vast reservoir of cricket knowledge that can benefit the wider squad. I am pleased that we have now settled the captaincy matter and I know the planning between the coaching and senior leadership group has already begun. We have an exciting four-year period coming up and I look forward to working closely with Paul and Andrew as we take this squad forward.”

Also, the head coach of the side, Heinrich Malan, praised Paul Stirling for his services over the years and said that the batter still has a lot to contribute to Cricket Ireland. He elaborated (as quoted by Cricket Ireland):

“The last few months of dealing so closely with Paul has confirmed that we have an asset of vast experience and knowledge within the playing group – experience and knowledge he has gained from his time with Ireland, in franchise cricket and formerly within county cricket.

“While fans may appreciate Paul’s talent on the field, his leadership skills and ability to communicate within the squad is a much under-estimated attribute. He lives and breathes cricket and has a passion for Irish cricket that is plain for everyone to see. It’s incredible to think Paul has been playing international cricket for 15 years and still has more good years ahead to lead this team and help improve Irish cricket.

“We know the challenges we have in Irish cricket, but we are very much a coaching and leadership unit that looks for solutions rather than finding excuses. Paul exemplifies this – he is an outright optimist and I know is driven to succeed. It is indeed welcoming to settle the leadership question, and we are very much looking forward to taking Irish cricket forward over coming years.”

Notably, Andrew Balbirnie will continue as Test captain of Ireland after his resignation from the captaincy in white-ball cricket. Talking about Paul Stirling, he has led Ireland in 22 matches across formats and is the second most capped Ireland player after Kevin O’Brien.
