Afghanistan wicketkeeper batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz expressed his admiration for renowned Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Rahmanullah Gurbaz stated that he has been in touch with Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni to enhance his batting performance.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz represented Afghanistan in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against India. The opening batter scored 87 runs in three innings at a decent average of 29 and a strike rate of 126.09, with his best score being 50 runs in the third T20I match.
The 22-year-old registered scores of 23 (28) and 14 (9) in the first two T20Is. The batter smashed a stellar half-century off just 32 balls in the final game while chasing down a mammoth target of 213 runs. He added a 93-run opening stand with skipper Ibrahim Zadran.
I Always Talked To Virat Kohli And MS Dhoni – Rahmanullah Gurbaz
Speaking to ANI, Rahmanullah Gurbaz revealed his interactions with Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni to enhance his cricketing skills. Gurbaz stated that he discussed with Kohli his cricketing journey and the steps needed to reach the next level.
“I always talked to Virat and MS Dhoni about how to improve my cricket. I have a lot of things in my mind and I have to work on it. I was talking to Virat (bhai) about my cricket journey and how I should grow, and reach the next level,” Gurbaz said.
Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib made significant contributions with the bat during the intense encounter. Despite their efforts, the Afghan team only managed to level India’s total. The visiting team failed to secure a victory in the prolonged contest against India.
It Was A Good Learning For Us – Rahmanullah Gurbaz
Rahmanullah Gurbaz described the series against India as a valuable learning experience for Afghanistan. He emphasized the confidence gained and lessons learned from playing against top players. Gurbaz expressed hope for more series against India in the future.
“It was a good learning for us. This kind of game can happen. We also enjoyed the game and learned a lot from it. Playing against players like Virat and Rohit Sharma gave us a lot of confidence and learning. I hope we get a lot of series against India in the future,” Gurbaz further stated.
“We put our all in the World Cup and it was a hard-fought competition. There are some places we need to improve. I hope next time we will not make these kind of mistakes,” he added.
Gurbaz is currently representing Dubai Capitals in the second edition of the International League T20. The young batter scored 81 runs off 39 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. The Capitals defeated MI Emirates by seven wickets in the second ILT20 2024 match.
The young opening batter boasts an impressive international cricket record, participating in 35 ODIs and 49 T20Is for Afghanistan, accumulating 1,238 and 1,271 runs in the respective formats.
