The Zimbabwe National Cricket Team represents Zimbabwe in men’s international cricket. The Zimbabwe Cricket team is administered by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). Zimbabwe is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and plays all three formats.
Zimbabwe National Cricket Team History:
- Zimbabwe, known as Rhodesia until 1980, had a national cricket team before achieving Test status. They played in the South African domestic cricket tournament, the Currie Cup from 1904 to 1932, and regularly from 1946 until independence.
- On 21 July 1981, Zimbabwe became an associate member of the ICC and participated in the 1983 World Cup.
- The ICC granted Zimbabwe the Test status in July 1992. The Zimbabwe cricket team played its first Test in October 1992 against India.
- In the 1990s, they struggled to do well in Tests but performed well in One-Day Internationals thanks to the emergence of quality players such as Grant Flower, Andy Blignaut, Heath Streak, Murray Goodwin, and others.
- They co-hosted the 2003 World Cup but the tournament was disrupted by security reasons. England forfeited a match in Zimbabwe citing “security concerns”.

Zimbabwe has played in nine editions of the ICC World Cup so far. They made their debut in the tournament in 1983 and caused a huge upset by beating Australia. It was their only win in that competition. In 1999 and 2003, they made it to the Super Sixes.
