Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma returned to T20Is after 14 months as India produced yet another powerful show in the series against Afghanistan and whitewashed the Afghani team by 3-0. India were able to win the final T20I held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in the second super over. However, after the end of the series, India’s fielding coach T Dilip brought back the tradition of the fielding medal that was given to the best fielder during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
BCCI uploaded a video for the same on their official ‘X’ handle, and it was fielding coach T Dilip as always addressing the whole dressing before giving the award. At the start of the video, Dilip lauded Washington Sundar and Sanju Samson’s brilliant fielding efforts in the third T20I match.
Moving forward in the video, T Dilip stated that he has picked up two consistent performers in the field throughout the series. The first name was Rinku Singh, and the Indian fielding coach lauded his efforts and the brilliant athleticism he produced throughout the series. Dilip also applauded Rinku’s game awareness and the way he has saved runs on the field while fielding at the most difficult positions.
The other name was none other than Virat Kohli. T Dilip stated before announcing the winner that Kohli took two medals in the 2023 ODI World Cup and revealed that on the West Indies tour, Virat told Dilip that he didn’t want to stand in the slips. Kohli wanted to stand at short leg or fine leg and wanted to give chances to youngsters in the slip position. Dilip stated that this is the kind of intensity that Virat Kohli gives to the Indian team. T Dilip further said that Kohli not only does his job well but inspires everyone in the team.
While both the players received a lot of praise from the fielding coach, the winner of the medal could have been one. And it was no one other than Virat Kohli. Kohli had a raw smile on his face after he was announced as the winner and the whole team applauded him with claps. India captain looked happy seeing Kohli win yet anther fielding medal.
