Former batsman Suresh Raina hailed Rohit Sharma as GOAT (greatest of all time) after the India skipper starred with the bat in the third T20I against Afghanistan on Wednesday (January 17).
The right-handed batsman was at his best as he helped India register a thrilling win at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. After failing to open his account in the first two T20Is, the Mumbai star smashed a record fifth T20I century before playing a key role in both the super overs.
Batting first, India were reeling at 22 for 4 before Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh shared an unbeaten stand of 190 runs to take the team to 212 for 4. Rohit remained unbeaten on 121 off 69 balls while Rinku smashed 69 runs off just 39 balls. In reply, Afghanistan finished on 212 as well, resulting in a tie.
In the first super over, the visitors scored 16 for 1 before Rohit hit two sixes in the over to help India finish on 16 as well. In the second super over, he hit a six and a four and scored all 11 runs before Ravi Bishnoi picked up 2 wickets for 1 run to propel India to a famous win.

The series marked the return of Rohit as well as Virat Kohli to the T20I team. Both of the senior batters had not played a T20I since the 2022 T20 World Cup. The selectors have made it clear that both the batsmen are set to play in this year’s T20 World Cup by recalling them.
With the T20I series now done and dusted, Rohit will shift his focus on the upcoming five-match Test series against England. The highly-anticipated series is scheduled to begin on January 25 in Hyderabad.
