While speaking on the Smash Sports podcast, Mark Boucher said that the decision to remove Rohit Sharma from the team’s captaincy was cricketing. The team is going through a transitional period, according to Boucher, and Rohit’s decision will undoubtedly bring out the best in both him as a player and a person. Boucher further added that this is an opportunity for Rohit to go out and score some runs.

Mumbai Indians brought in all-rounder Hardik Pandya back from Gujarat Titans by executing a transfer deal worth INR 15 crore. Ever since Hardik made a homecoming, he was appointed as the captain of the side. Soon after Rohit was replaced from the captaincy of the Mumbai Indians, there were rumors of a rift between Hardik Pandya and him. However, there was no credible source to confirm the news.

MI failed to make it to the playoffs of the cash-rich league under Rohit twice in the last three editions of the Indian Premier League. The five-time champions lost the qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023. Rohit is the second most successful captain in the history of the Indian Premier League and has a win percentage of 56.32. Rohit has won 87 matches from 158 games as the captain of MI.

However, Mumbai Indians have played an important role in grooming Hardik Pandya as a player. Pandya was picked by MI for a base price of INR 10 lakh in the IPL 2015 auction. Hardik proved to be a vital buy for the franchise and contributed with both bat and ball. Due to his IPL performance, he also received his first break for the Indian cricket team at the start of 2016.

After every passing year, Hardik Pandya improved his performance and now has become one of the top all-rounders in the world. Pandya was released by MI ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction after which he was picked up by Gujarat Titans and was given the responsibility to lead the side.

Hardik Pandya didn’t disappoint the GT management and helped them win the IPL title in their debut season. The Titans were able to make it to the final of the tournament in 2023. Now, when Hardik has returned to MI, the management has trusted him and they believe that they will once again be able to get their hands on the trophy.
