Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni is known for his cool and calm demeanor on the cricket field. No matter what the situation is, the former India skipper hardly shows emotions on the field.

But even Captain Cool could not control his emotions after Chennai Super Kings’ thrilling 5-wicket win (DLS method) over Gujarat Titans in the recently-concluded final of IPL 2023. Chennai Super Kings beat the reigning IPL champions to equal Mumbai Indians’ record of 5 IPL titles.

Fortunes swung from one side to another throughout the match and Gujarat Titans remained on the front foot for the most part. But in the end, the MS Dhoni-led side managed to pull off a miraculous win to win their fifth IPL title and third title in the last six seasons.

Emotional MS Dhoni lifts Ravindra Jadeja:

Asked to bat first, Gujarat Titans piled up a mammoth total of 214 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs. Left-handed batsman Sai Sudharsan top-scored for the Titans, scoring 96 off just 47 balls. Veteran batsman Wriddhiman Saha also played a crucial knock of 54 runs to lay the foundation for the big total.

Chennai Super Kings were then given a revised target of 171 runs in 15 runs after rain interrupted at the start of their innings. They were off to a good start with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway adding 74 runs for the first wicket before departing in quick succession. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu played promising cameos but could not bat Chennai Super Kings to a win.

In the end, Chennai Super Kings needed 13 runs to win from the last over bowled by Mohit Sharma. Mohit began well and conceded just 3 singles on the 1st four deliveries. With 10 runs needed from the last 2 balls, the Titans looked destined to win the clash and defend their title.

However, Ravindra Jadeja hit the next two balls for a six and a four to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat for Chennai. And as soon as he hit the winning four, his teammates began celebrating the win wildly. Even MS Dhoni could not control himself after the thrilling win.

Soon after Jadeja took a victory lap around the ground, MS Dhoni came out on the field and embraced the star allrounder. He not only hugged Jadeja but also lifted him as he celebrated the historic title.
