Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has reiterated his faith in former Indian skipper Virat Kohli to come out of his lean patch in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. Notably, for the last couple of years, Virat Kohli has been going through his poorest form ever since he stepped into international cricket in 2008.
It has been more than 1000 days since Virat last scored an international century and he has gone on to play 78 innings on the international stage without a century. His last century came against Bangladesh in the Day/Night Test match at Kolkata. Vira has already scored 70 international centuries and hence, his fans have been in anticipation of him returning back to his best.
Danish Kaneria Restores Faith In Virat Kohli
In an exclusive interview with Cricketaddictor, Danish Kaneria said, “Virat Kohli is a brand in himself. If Babar Azam doesn’t perform for a year, he will have to face bigger complications than Virat has had to. The most important thing is that Virat has scored runs in this so-called bad patch of his. But he has set the standard so high that people expect him to score a 100 every time he steps onto the field.”
“I support Rohit Sharma’s decision of backing Virat Kohli. There was a lot going on in Indian Cricket against Virat Kohli from the WTC final against New Zealand when R Ashwin was benched in the final. He couldn’t create a balance in the T20 WC 2021 and his own form had taken a hit. All these things went against him,” Danish further added.
Virat Kohli Shouldn’t Have Skipped So Much International Cricket- Danish Kaneria
Ever since IPL 2022 has ended, Virat Kohli hasn’t accompanied the Indian team for the majority of the duration. He wasn’t a part of India’s 5-match T20I series against South Africa. He also wasn’t a part of team India’s tour of Ireland for the two-match T20I series. He was available for the entire India tour of England 2022 and since then, he has again skipped India’s tour of the West Indies and Zimbabwe.
“Virat is now being backed up by the entire team management and everybody is hopeful of him returning to form. He’s super fit and now it’s time for him to score runs. The only mistake that Virat made was he missed a lot of international cricket. I believe he should’ve skipped the majority of the IPL and the West Indies series could have been an ideal place for him to get back to form,” Danish Kaneria added.
“It will be interesting to see his batting position and team India definitely needs Virat Kohli in his finest form for the T20 World Cup. We expect Virat to come back with a bang and he will have to do that as he’s a giant of World Cricket,” Kaneria remarked.
Like international cricket, Virat Kohli had one of his poorest IPL outings this year in IPL 2022 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In 16 games this season, Virat managed to score just 341 runs at an average of 22.73 and a strike rate of 115.99 with just 2 half-centuries throughout the tournament.
