Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has stressed bringing fresh talent through the ranks for the betterment of Pakistan cricket. Citing team India’s example, Danish Kaneria has stated that Pakistan’s ‘Laptop Selectors’ should take cues from the Indian selectors and the Indian team management to promote players through the ranks and give them regular international exposure.
Notably, Pakistan cricket has become the centre of attraction ever since Shaheen Shah Afridi’s news regarding him being ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 broke out. Now there’s a harakiri caused in Pakistan cricket about Shaheen’s absence as he has been the most effective pacer for Pakistan with the new ball.

“We didn’t prepare well. The selectors come and keep beating around the bush time and again. They say that Shan Masood has to prove himself. Shan plays in England and England’s domestic Cricket is far better than Pakistan. Shan is performing there and he’s even leading the Derbyshire T20 side,” Danish Kaneria said in an exclusive interview with Cricketaddictor.
“The ‘Laptop Selectors’ come and blatantly say that Shan will have to prove himself. I haven’t seen any other national selector behaving in the same manner. If any player performs well, he’s directly inducted into the senior team,” Danish further stated.
“Shadab Khan is being dragged along only because he has the vice-captain tag. Some people say Mohmmad Rizwan makes the team and Babar Azam endorses it but no one really knows what’s going on. We only want the betterment of Pakistan Cricket,” Danish added.
Pakistan’s ‘Laptop Selectors’ Should Learn From India: Danish Kaneria
Citing India’s example, Danish Kaneria stressed the fact that the Pakistan selectors and the team management should learn from the India selectors and India’s team management. Notably, after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, there was a massive leadership change in the Indian Cricket Team.
Rohit Sharma was named the captain of the Indian Cricket Team across all formats while Rahul Dravid took over as the Head Coach of the India National Cricket Team. And there has been a notable change in approach from this Indian leadership.
“You look at the IPL, Umran Malik made a sensation and immediately, he was inducted into the Indian Cricket Team. Sanju Samson is making his comeback, and Rahul Tripathi will be seen playing around. Look at Arshdeep Singh, he made a mark for himself as soon as he broke onto the international scene and I am highly hopeful that he will perform well in Asia Cup too as he has the skill and complete backing from the team management,” Danish Kaneria stated.
