The 26-year-old left-arm pacer Mukesh Choudhary, who is part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), said that the legendary India captain MS Dhoni had told him to believe in his abilities after he failed to perform well in his first few IPL 2022 games.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought the left-arm pacer, who finished as Maharashtra’s highest wicket-taker in the 2021/22 edition of Vijay Hazare Trophy, at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction for his base price of INR 20 lakh.

Mukesh failed to do well in his first couple of Indian Premier League games. However, he made a strong comeback and ended up picking 16 wickets in 13 games.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old said that he never thought that he would play for the four-time Indian Premier League winners, Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

“I never thought I would play for Chennai Super Kings. When I was on the team bus (for the first time), Dhoni tapped me on the shoulder and I was like, ‘Oh this is happening with me’ and I felt very proud,” said Choudhary on chennaisuperkings.com

Mukesh further talked about the impact of Dhoni and Gaikwad on his cricketing career since he joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He said that his good friend and CSK opener, Gaikwad, always supported him and gave him confidence.

“In my first two matches, I couldn’t perform to my potential. So, I used to talk to him (Dhoni) every day and also in between matches. Dhoni told me to believe in my abilities. Rutu (Ruturaj) is my friend… so he was always there with me, he supported me and gave me the confidence saying, ‘You have everything, you just have to believe in yourself because for every player it happens, where they go through this phase’,” said Choudhary.

“After the Mumbai (Indians) game, I gained confidence and continued to bowl with that confidence,” added Choudhary.

The 26-year-old further said that the ability to swing the ball is very important to have for a left-arm pacer.

“For a left-arm fast bowler, the swing is important and the one which comes into the right-hander is very important. Inswing is the most dangerous ball to any right-handed batter. Length is important. You need to work and improve your accuracy and swing,” he concluded.
