Rajasthan Royals (RR) opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has been predominantly utilized by the organization for his bat talents thus far. The 20-year-old, who is also a leg-spinner, has only bowled a few times in the domestic circuit.
In his Indian Premier League (IPL) stint, Jaiswal’s lone ball was smacked for a six. In the recently finished edition, he came on to bowl at the tail end of the match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
The teenager has seven wickets in first-class cricket for an average of 33.14 and an economy of 5.21. Jaiswal has bowled in seven T20 cricket matches but has yet to pick up a wicket.
After a successful performance in 2021, the Sanju Samson-led squad decided to keep the emerging batter for the 2022 edition. In IPL 2022, the 20-year-old scored 258 runs in ten matches, his most successful season in the competition since his debut in 2020.
‘I told him that I want to be the world’s best all-rounder’: Yashasvi Jaiswal
In an interview with the Times of India, Jaiswal said that he focused on his leg-spin spinning under the mentorship of Yuzvendra Chahal during the IPL:
“I spoke with him and received some bowling advice. He stated that I have the potential to be a good all-around player. I told him I wanted to be the best all-rounder in the world. I want to be the greatest in both the bowling and batting sectors.”
Jaiswal described Chahal as the RR squad’s “mystery man,” saying:
“He is a man of mystery (laughs). In his field, he is also a legend. He comes in a variety of forms. He is an excellent chess player.”
In his first season with the Rajasthan Royals, Chahal enjoyed a memorable campaign (RR). After taking 27 wickets in 16 matches during the tournament, the leg-spinner was awarded the Purple Cap.
