Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra intends the Gujarat Titans (GT) to release Australia’s keeper batter Matthew Wade before the start of the new season. He claimed that the lefty failed to capitalize on his opportunities in the recently completed Indian Premier League (IPL 2022).
The Titans went with the Australian cricketer over Wriddhiman Saha. Wade was ultimately dropped from the playing XI after failing to make any meaningful efforts with the bat. The 34-year-old made a late-season comeback, but his struggles kept going.
Aakash Chopra claims it is pointless to keep a player who hasn’t even made a significant contribution to the success this season despite multiple chances. He seeks GT to fire the swashbuckler and bring in somebody next year.
Chopra explained “Matthew Wade must be freed. He was a member of Australia’s T20 World Cup team and has now won the IPL, but despite having so many opportunities, he did nothing. GT should fire him if he hasn’t done anything.”
Wade scored 157 runs in ten games, with an average of 15.70 and a strike rate of less than 115.
‘The Titans had to struggle with the No. 3 batter’: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra also noted that Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and David Miller scored the majority of the team’s runs. The Titans, on the other hand, had to contend with the No. 3 batter. They changed a few things, but the batsmen didn’t utilize them.
Aakash Chopra believes that the winners’ No.3 has become a cause of worry.
“Shubman Gill was on top, Hardik Pandya was in the middle, and David Miller was the finisher. Gill and Pandya both had great standards. Miller, on the other hand, had a great season, something that hasn’t occurred in quite some time. But what about them? Saha arrived late, and they didn’t have a designated starter for several games.”
“Their No.3 is a source of concern because they failed to properly find the best candidate. Tewatia has performed admirably in limited chances, but only when chasing and not when batting first.”
Hardik Pandya, the skipper, was the star performer with the bat for them in the IPL 2022. In 15 games, the right-hander scored 487 runs.
