Shane Bond, a former New Zealand paceman, believes Arjun Tendulkar requires putting in a lot of practice and hard work towards improving his batting and fielding.
Arjun was purchased for Rs 30 lakh by the Mumbai Indians in the mega auctions of 2022, however, the 22-year-old left-arm bowler did not play a single match. Arjun was in his second year with the MI franchise in 2022, but he had yet to play in the lucrative league.
Mumbai Indians, the five-time winners, had a forgettable 2022 campaign in the Indian Premier League. The Mumbai-based ended last in the league rankings for the first occasion in 15 years, winning only four of their 14 games. The Mumbai Indians experimented with as many as 21 different types of players during the season, out of a total of 24 players on their 2022 roster.
Arjun Tendulkar, on the other hand, was unable to secure a position in the playing XI. Arjun is a left-handed fast bowler, and although looking impressive in the nets, he was unable to make his debut in the lucrative league.
‘He has a long way to go in terms of improvement’: Shane Bond
Shane Bond, MI’s bowling coach, revealed what Arjun needs to accomplish to earn a spot in the starting XI in a recent interview.
“He’s got some work to do, making the squad is one thing, but making the starting eleven is another when you join a team like Mumbai. He has a long way to go in terms of improvement. There is much to be done.”
“It’s one thing to attempt everyone out for a game, but at this level, there’s a tight line to walk between offering everyone a game and having to earn your spot. And he still needs to work on his batting and fielding, in particular, to secure a spot on the squad” Shane Bond Added.
The 2022 season of the Indian Premier League was Arjun’s second year with the Mumbai Indians set-up.
