Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Mohammed Shami set the tone for his team’s tremendous campaign by taking a wicket off the very first ball of their debut match in the IPL 2022 season.
Shami was the one who sent back KL Rahul with a peach of a delivery and the team built on the excellent start from there. They won 10 out of 14 matches in the league before winning both knockout games to be crowned the champions.
Speaking about the things that went right for GT, Shami said they had plenty of match-winners who delivered whenever the team. This is reflected in the fact that GT had as many as eight different players winning the Player of the Match award.
“For every team, their senior player or some others perform. But for Gujarat, in every match, a new face stepped up and they have enjoyed a lot. It has been a great season for all of us,” Shami said in a video posted by GT on their social media.
“No one felt any pressure and the result of the same was seen” – Mohammed Shami
After the mega auctions, GT was not given much of a chance as they didn’t have any outright explosive players among their ranks. However, the new franchise showed that functioning as a team is much better than individual prowess and deservedly laid their hands on the trophy.
“The bonding that we formed right from day one has been managed really well by the management. No one felt any pressure and the result of the same was seen in the match.”
“Once the season is over, the only goal is to do whatever we can for the country, and it’s an amazing feeling,” he went on to add.
Shami will now take a break as he was rested from India’s squad for the 5-match T20I series against South Africa. He is likely to return when India tours England for a full-fledged tour next month.
