The AUS vs WI first Test starts in Adelaide on January 17, 2024. The first Test kicks off a two-match series with the second Test at The Gabba from January 25-29. The first Test starts at 5 am IST on January 17.
Australia will be led by Pat Cummins. He will be back to leading the side after leading his side to a Test series win against Pakistan recently. He will have all his senior players back on the site. He along with Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc will form a formidable pace trio. Nathan Lyon will be back as the specialist spinner. They have kept their Test squad pretty much intact from the previous series.
West Indies have named a 15-member squad for the first Test. Injuries have led to the absence of key players. Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers have backed out of the Test series. Jayden Seals misses out from the first Test due to a shoulder injury.
Jermaine Blackwood, Raymon Reifer, Rahkeem Cornwall, Shannon Gabriel, and Jomel Warrican have been left out from the squad that played against India in June-July 2023 which was the last Test series for West Indies. Several uncapped players have been picked for the AUS vs WI Test series.

Uncapped allrounder Kevin Sinclair along with uncapped players picked in the squad are batter Zachary McCaskie, wicket-keeper Tevin Imlach, allrounders Justin Greaves and Kavem Hodge, fast bowlers Akeem Jordan and Shamar Joseph have been picked. Holder and Mayers will be playing in T20 leagues in January.
Cricket West Indies selected Desmond Haynes has lamented the untimely injuries to key players and the absence of senior players for naming an inexperienced Test squad overall. However, he is very hopeful to see the upcoming generation of Windies cricketers taking an interest in red-ball cricket.
Australia are leading the WTC points table heading into this Test series with a PCT point of 56.25. West Indies are placed seventh in the points table as of now below teams like Bangladesh and Pakistan. With the country hosting the T20 World Cup, the focus of many players is towards that ICC event. Australia are topping the ICC Test rankings as well while the Windies are placed eighth.
