South Africa take on India in the second ODI in Ranchi on Sunday, October 9. The visitors won the first ODI and needs to win the series to keep hopes of direct qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup alive. India, on the other hand, have to win the next match to keep the series alive.

South Africa are placed 11th on the World Cup Super League (WCSL) standings at the moment. They will move upto the ninth spot if they win the series 3-0. A series win against India might not be enough for them to seal a direct qualification.

“To qualify for next year’s World Cup is going to be really hard but we are definitely going to try. Our goal at this moment is the T20 World Cup coming up in a couple of day’s time,” said Klaasen.

“We are not too worried about other things we can’t control at this moment. Every time we get on to the field wearing the South African jersey we want to win the game. We are just taking step by step, game by game at this moment,” he added.

India, on the other hand, will have issues to sort out heading into the second ODI. Death bowling continues to be a growing concern. Along the same lines, batting in the middle overs is something that they have to think about. The way Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad batted after the openers were dismissed early leaves a lot to be questioned about their intent.
