Former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani lashed out at Punjab batter Abhishek Sharma for hitting five sixes in the Ranji Trophy 2024. He thrashed the all-rounder for not playing according to the situation and said young players need to learn patience.
Abhishek Sharma, who is touted as one of the best youngsters in domestic cricket, has been in the terrific touch in the ongoing domestic circuit for the Punjab. The batter oozed his hitting class in the team’s last Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu.
Abhishek Sharma played a brutal knock and slammed five sixes in an over against Sai Kishore. The batter timed the ball perfectly and hit big hits. While his innings impressed many, Hemang Badani wasn’t impressed with it as he seized an opportunity to lash out at the batter.
Hemang Badani thrashed the batter for not playing the long innings. He pointed out that Abhishek Sharma needed to play the long innings as the team’s need was to stay there for long and save the game. Taking to his Twitter account, he explained:
“And got out for 36 in a 4 day game which his team lost, where they were trying to save the game. One needs to play according to the format and situation.”

Abhishek Sharma ended with a knock of 36 runs in just 16 balls. With 5 sixes in an over, he became only the fourth Indian player in history to score five sixes in an over after Ravi Shastri, Reuben Paul, and Shivam Dube. His efforts however didn’t count as Punjab suffered a disappointing loss against Tamil Nadu to end their campaign on low.
Hemang Badani further while elaborating his point on Abhishek Sharma said that he was glorified that the all-rounder was praised when the need of the game was different. He added:
“Well I did last year but …let’s leave it at that.I am not criticising him but find it strange that this is being applauded and glorified when the need of the game was different . Pls feel free to go hard at me for saying the right thing.”

Is Hemang Badani no longer with Sunrisers Hyderabad?
Former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani in a now-deleted tweet mentioned that he has parted ways with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Hemang Badani stated that he is no longer the batting coach of the franchise and hasn’t been in touch with them for a few months now.
Taking to his Twitter account, he stated: “I am not the batting coach for srh or sec. Haven’t been with them for more than a few months. Enjoyed the journey with them and thank @SunRisers for the opportunity .#IPL2024″

He later deleted the tweet but he himself confirmed about the development and won’t be taking part in the IPL now for SRH.
