Gujarat Titans Head Coach Ashish Nehra has shown support for Gujarat Titans’ new skipper Shubman Gill. Ashish Nehra also said that the franchise believes in Shubman Gill and that is why they made him the new captain of the team for IPL 2024.
Shubman Gill was appointed as Gujarat Titans’ new skipper after former captain Hardik Pandya left the side. Pandya left Gujarat Titans and joined Mumbai Indians through a trade. Just after Pandya’s ouster, Gujarat Titans promoted Shubman Gill as the new skipper of the franchise.
Gill has been part of Gujarat Titans since their debut season in IPL 2022. He was among the first three players that GT signed directly. Notably, the right-handed batsman finished as the leading run-getter in IPL 2023 and won the orange cap.
We Believe In Shubman Gill And That’s Why We’ve Made Him Captain: Ashish Nehra
During a chat with Times of India, Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra said that the franchise believes in Shubman Gill. He also added that they will support him in his captainship.
“IPL is a fast game and it throws challenges for everyone. We have seen how Shubman Gill has been playing for three-four years and how he has shaped up. He is 24-25 but he has a good head on his shoulders. We are there to support him. We believe in him that’s why we have made him the captain,” Nehra said.
Ashish Nehra also said that Shubman Gill is the right guy to lead the side. He pointed out that results do not matter for captaincy.
“I am not someone who will always go by results. There are so many other things too. Yes, everyone strives for results. Everyone looks for results. But when it comes to captaincy, you must see different things. We are very confident that Shubman is the right guy,” the former Indian pacer further added.
Shubman Gill has also cemented his place in the Indian team with his outstanding performance in 2023. He is the leading run-getter for India this year across all three formats. The right-handed batsman has become a powerful choice for opening spot across all three formats.
