Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his second double century in Test cricket as the hosts declared their second innings at a score of 430/4 on Sunday, February 18th. The home team set an improbable target of 557 for the visitors in the final innings of the ongoing red-ball match.
The 22-year-old retired hurt on 104 runs on the third day due to back spasms. The left-handed batter returned to the field after Shubman Gill was dismissed due to an unfortunate run-out for 91 runs. He continued his innings and showed no signs of discomfort.
The left-handed opening batter ended his innings with an unbeaten 214 runs off 236 balls, with the help of 14 boundaries and 12 sixes. Jaiswal also became the third Indian batter to score a double hundred in consecutive Test matches after Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli.

Yashasvi Jaiswal first caught attention during the 2020 Under-19 World Cup, where he amassed 400 runs. Since then, he has impressed with his performances in the IPL and domestic leagues. He made his Test debut for India against the West Indies last year.
The Mumbai batter capitalized on the opportunity and scored a century on his debut in Dominica. The young player amassed 171 runs off 381 balls in his maiden innings. He regained form in the ongoing matches after facing difficulties in scoring against South Africa.

Jaiswal’s spectacular double century was complemented by Sarfaraz Khan’s notable batting performance on his Test debut. Sarfaraz, who scored 62 runs in the first innings, showcased their talent further with an unbeaten 68 off 72 deliveries in the second inning.
Sarfaraz Khan added an unbeaten fifth-wicket partnership of 172 runs with Jaiswal. The 26-year-old batter became the fourth Indian, alongside Dilawar Hussain, Sunil Gavaskar, and Shreyas Iyer, to achieve fifty-plus scores in both innings during his Test debut.
During their run chase, England faced early setbacks, with Ben Duckett dismissed for 4 and Zak Crawley for 11, leaving them at 18/2 by tea on Day 4. The English side’s woes continued post-tea as they lost three more wickets, collapsing to 50/5 within 22 overs.
