Former England Captain Michael Vaughan who is known for his criticism towards the Indian cricket team, wants his dumps to last longer than India’s 1st inning slump which saw them lose 6 wickets without a run being scored after 153. It led Ravi Shastri to claim on air that if someone had gone around the corner for a dump would have come back and seen India are all out in no matter of time.
Michael Vaughan was alongside Mark Waugh on Fox Cricket when the host brought up the topic of India’s sudden and dramatic collapse at Newlands on Day 1 and highlighted Ravi Shastri’s remarks on the same. He would first summarize what had happened before the clip of Shastri went on air with everyone inside the Fox Cricket studio laughing in bits.
“So India had lost 6 for 0, and our man Ravi Shastri, Fox Cricket’s finest, was in commentary. And this is how he summarized the six for none.” After the clip was played, Mark Waugh became the first to react and claimed that Dump has the same meaning in India. “Does a dump mean the same in India as it does in England?” The host funnily replied, “It does”.

When Ravi Shastri delivered his on-air mastery of words, his co-commentator Mpumelelo Mbangwa added a little bit more context by saying, “Or a Drink” as he burst out in laughter. The Fox cricket presenter would highlight Pommie Mbangwa’s suffix to Shastri before Michael Vaughan jumped in and shared his 2 cents.

“I would want my dumps to last a bit longer than that.” – said Vaughan by referring to India losing 6 wickets within a matter of 3 overs.
A couple of days ago, Michael Vaughan also claimed that the Indian cricket team stands as the most underperforming and under-achieving team in the world of sports after they lost 2 ICC finals in 2023.
In context, the Men in Blue have more ICC trophies to show for than the country of Michael Vaughan’s and cricket’s birth. While India won the Cricket World Cup in only its 3rd edition back in 1983, England’s first CWC title (2019) came decades after the inaugural edition.
Moreover, England’s first ICC silverware was the T20 World Cup in 2010 which they won 3 years after MS Dhoni’s men claimed the first ever tournament of the shortest format. Therefore, the underachieving remarks of Michael Vaughan towards India also apply to the English cricket team, which is all set to enter the T20 WC in the USA and West Indies as reigning champions, a few months later in June.
Meanwhile, the 2nd test between India and South Africa concluded yesterday as the visitors chased down the target of 79 with ease to claim a first-ever test win at Newlands and drew a test series in South Africa for only the 2nd time ever.
