Babar Azam will be aiming to regain his best form in the forthcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The much-awaited PSL 2024 is scheduled to get underway on Saturday (February 17).

The right-handed batsman has faced severe criticism in recent times for his failure to do well with the bat, especially in big games. It all began in the Asia Cup last year. He started the tournament with a brilliant 151-run knock against Nepal but could not extend his form as Pakistan crashed out at the Super Four stage despite being one of the favorites.

The poor show as a captain and batsman continued in the World Cup as well. He managed 320 runs in 9 games at an average of 40 and a strike-rate of just over 80. Babar Azam failed to do well in crunch situations during the tournament and was heavily criticized. After Pakistan failed to make it to the semifinals, he resigned as the captain in all three formats.

Babar Azam castled by young spinner:

It was expected that Babar Azam would be back to his best after being relieved of the captaincy duties. However, he struggled with the bat in Australia as well where Pakistan played three Tests. In six innings, he managed to score only 126 runs at an average of 21. He did score three fifties in a row in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand but Pakistan ended up losing all the games.

The star batsman would be desperate to do well in PSL 2024 and regain his top form ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup. He is currently training for the competition. And while only time will tell how he performs in PSL, one can say that he might be struggling with his confidence as he was undone by a young spinner in the nets. The ball kept a bit low and Babar Azam was completely beaten.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam will be leading Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2024. The Peshawar-based outfit will open its campaign in the competition against Quetta Gladiators on Sunday.
