Jay Shah talked about India’s chances of playing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as the tournament is scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan. Pakistan and India have not played a bilateral series between each other since 2012-13.

India last toured Pakistan in 2006 which was a multi-format tour and that was the last when the two nations played each other in a Test match. After the 2012-12 bilateral series, the two neighbouring countries have met only in ICC and ACC tournaments.

The last time the two nations locked horns against each other was during the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 where the Babar Azam-led Pakistan side toured India but had a disappointing tournament.

Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup for the third time in a row and they even lost a game against Afghanistan. They lost four consecutive games in a World Cup edition for the first time.

Jay Shah is the current BCCI secretary and he has revealed the details about India visiting Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan are the defending champions of the ICC Champions Trophy as they won the last edition in England in 2017 where they defeated India in the finals of the competition which was their last victory against India in ODIs.

“How can I decide that? ICC will decide. Whatever the government decides, things will happen accordingly,” Shah told the reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony to name Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot after former board secretary Niranjan Shah.

The third Test of the five-match series between India and England is being played in Rajkot and India is batting first on a batting-friendly pitch. Jay Shah has said that the government and ICC will decide whether India will visit Pakistan, or they will miss the competition or the competition will be held in a hybrid model.

Jay Shah also reveals the captain of team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Jay Shah also talked about the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup which will be held in June and will be hosted jointly by the West Indies and the United States. He talked about the Indian team and who will be leading the Men in Blues in the T20 World Cup.

There were speculations between Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya regarding leading the Indian team in the T20 World Cup but the BCCI secretary has given clarity regarding who will be leading the side.

“Rohit was captaining (in the past in other formats) and he came back for the Afghanistan series, which means we were going to let him continue forward. Hardik Pandya will be India’s vice-captain in the T20 World Cup 2024. We all saw how Hardik got injured in ODI World Cup 2023, so we were thinking about who to hand over the captaincy role to,” said Jay Shah.
