Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir took retirement from international cricket in 2020 citing the reason of injustice against him by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Amir has been a part of T20 leagues since he retired from international cricket and is currently playing for the Desert Vipers in the ILT20 2024.
There was a debate behind the return of Mohammad Amir to the Pakistan cricket team during the ODI World Cup 2023. However, while speaking to his team, he opened up on the chances of his international return. Amir showcased his displeasure with the current situation in the Pakistan Cricket Board and believes that it changes every day.
As per Mohammad Amir, three years is a long period to be away from international cricket and it won’t be a sensible decision to return to international cricket. Amir further revealed that he has a lot to do currently in his life and for the next few years, he doesn’t know what will happen.
Mohammad Amir opens on his future plans
Mohammad Amir said, “At the moment, I have moved on. I have different things in my life to do. If you look at the Pakistan system right now, it is changing every single month, so you never know what is coming. For me this debate is closed. After three years out, I don’t think it would be a sensible decision for me to come back. For now, at least. I don’t know what will happen in the next few years.”
Mohammad Amir believed that former Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis had done injustice against him while he was in the team.
Mohammad Amir, who made his debut for Pakistan in 2009, got involved in a spot-fixing case during the England vs Pakistan Test series in 2010. Amir was jailed for being involved in spot-fixing and was also banned from playing international cricket.
However, Mohammad Amir made a comeback to international cricket back in 2016 when he was declared to be free to play in all forms of cricket. Amir returned to international cricket in January 2016 and was one of the lead pacers in the Pakistani bowling attack. Amir was the hero of Pakistan’s win in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India and removed top-order Indian batsmen such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma pretty early.
However, instability in the Pakistan Cricket Board is not new as there have been a lot of changes in the management in the last 1 year. The year 2023 proved out to be a horrible year for Pakistan as faced a debacle in the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.
The whole Pakistani management was changed after the CWC 2023. Grant Bradburn and Mickey Arthur were replaced by Mohammad Hafeez as the head coach and director of the Pakistan cricket team, whereas, Wahab Riaz replaced Inzamam-ul-Haq as the chief selector.
However, there is a chance that Mohammad Hafeez wont continue as the director of cricket of the Pakistani team after Zaka Ashraf resigned from his post as the PCB chairman
