Shubman Gill missed a well-deserved century as he was run out after scoring 91 off 151 deliveries. It would have been his fourth Test century and he missed it by just nine runs. India and England are playing each other in the third Test of the five-match series at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. Shubman Gill was playing brilliantly and looking to complete his century but failed because of a mix-up with Kuldeep Yadav leading to a runout.
Kuldeep Yadav sent the ball to mid-on where Ben Stokes was present but Gill was halfway when he realized that Kuldeep was not running, he turned back and dived but Tom Hartley knocked off the bails quickly to get him run out. Shubman Gill was livid with Kuldeep Yadav as he was disgusted while walking back while Kuldeep Yadav sunk to his knees in disappointment and regret as he realized his mistake.
Shubman Gill was out for a duck in the first innings but made for it after scoring a brilliant 91 in the second innings which included nine boundaries and two sixes. He partnered with youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal and added 155 runs with him for the second wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal was later retired hurt at the end of day 3 and Rajat Patidar was sent to bat and got out on a duck. Kuldeep Yadav was sent as a night watchman and he did his job wonderfully before making that blunder which led to Gill’s runout.
Currently, Yashasvi Jaiswal and debutant Sarafaraz Khan are on the pitch for India and they are taking the lead ahead. Sarfaraz Khan smashed 62 off 66 deliveries in the first innings but was unlucky to get run out after a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja. Shubman Gill was involved in a similar fate as he also got a runout after playing a terrific inning which deserved a big score. He was not having a good run in Test cricket but the last two matches have yielded some good results for the 24-year-old batter.
