The Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2022 season was terrible overall, with the exception of the young Tilak Varma. The youthful left-hander has made significant progress in securing his spot in the MI XI for the foreseeable future. Tilak was purchased by MI for INR 1.7 crore in the auction earlier this year.
Mumbai Indians are known for their scouting skills and skipper Rohit Sharma is also well-known for the backing he provides to youngsters.
Talked A Lot About My Batting With Rohit Sharma: Tilak Varma
In an interview with News 24, Tilak talked about his on-field experiences when he met India and MI captain Rohit Sharma.
When asked if Rohit has given any advice at the end of the season and to work on any specific skills, the youngster replied:
“Personally, I talked a lot with Rohit bhai about how to improve my batting. I had done well this season and my thinking process was to always do well for the team and win as much games as I can for them.”
Rohit Sharma Taught Me How To Tackle Pressure Situations: Tilak Verma
Tilak was unable to finish games and was getting out after getting set. He talks about how Rohit has always told him to enjoy the game while backing his strengths and other things will come off themselves.
“There were a few matches where I could not finish off. Afterwards Rohit Bhai told me to back myself and as soon as I understood the situations better, it will automatically improve.”
“Rohit bhai also taught me how to tackle the pressure situations and enjoy the game while backing my strengths. It has helped me a lot.”, Tilak said.
Earlier in the IPL 2022 season, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma said that he feels young Tilak Varma will be part of the Indian team soon as he is very calm and composed.
The Hyderabad batsman was a staple in the lineup and finished the season with 397 runs, the second-most for the squad (behind Ishan Kishan). He hit two fifty scores, with his highest coming against the Rajasthan Royals with 61 off 33.
