Hobart Hurricanes is a Big Bash League (BBL) cricket franchise based in Hobart, Australia. Founded in 2011, they play their home games at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart. In addition, they also play their home matches at the University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston.
Former Australia captain Tim Paine was their first-ever captain. While they have made it to the final of the BBL on two occasions, they are yet to win the title. At present, fast-bowler Nathan Ellis is the captain of the team. The team also has some big names such as Matthew Wade, Tim David, Chris Jordan, and Corey Anderson.
Hobart Hurricanes’ journey in BBL so far:
Hobart Hurricanes made a promising start to their journey in the BBL. In the first season, they finished in the second spot in the points table after the league stage before losing the semifinal. In 2012-13, they finished in the sixth spot before bouncing back in the following season. They made it to the final for the very first time and ended the season as runner-up.
From 2014-15 to 2016-17, they failed to progress ahead of the league stage for three seasons in a row. In 2017-18 season, the Hobart-based outfit made it to the final once again and ended up on the losing side one more time. In the following season, their campaign ended at the semifinal stage before they lost the Eliminator in the 2019-20 season. In the 2020-21 season, they exited at the league stage before losing the Eliminator once again the following season. In the 2022-23 season, they failed to make it past the league stage and finished in the sixth spot.
