The five-time IPL champions roped in Gerald Coetzee for 5 crores who was their most expensive buy at the auction. Another good buy was the Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka who was roped in for 4.60 crores.
Another important but was Shreyas Gopal who was picked up for 2 crores. He will be a good backup for Piyush Chawla. Despite having a good time at the auction table, the debate for Mumbai Indians was about the trade of Hardik Pandya and eventually, him being named as the captain of the franchise given his recent injury-prone history.

Cricket experts are still unable to wrap their heads around his move by Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma, who has won five IPL titles as captain and has been the key to the success of many of these Indian players will now have to play second fiddle.

Mumbai Indians Playing 11 for IPL 2024
Rohit Sharma
Rohit will continue to open the batting for Mumbai Indians. He scored over 500 runs with his ultra-aggressive batting approach in the World Cup. He would like to bat with the same template. The Hitman was removed as the skipper of the franchise upon Hardik Pandya’s arrival.
Ishan Kishan (WK)
Ishan Kishan will open the batting with Rohit. He has been the first-choice keeper and all of his success with the bat has come at the top-order. It will be interesting to see how he bats this season. Kishan was part of India’s World Cup squad.
Suryakumar Yadav
SKY will bat at three. He reacted with a broken heart emoji after Hardik Pandya was named as the new MI captain. He tasted success recently as India’s T20I captain. Surya will definitely be one of the batters to watch out for.
Tilak Varma
Tilak will bat at four. He has now played two seasons for MI scoring 790 runs in the last two seasons. His consistency with the bat led to his ODI and T20I debut. He will bat in the middle-order.
Hardik Pandya (C)
Pandya will slot in at five. He was traded from GT to MI after a couple of successful seasons. He won the title with Gujarat Titans on their debut season. How Pandya leads this Mumbai India franchise will be an interesting observation.
Tim David
The Australian hard-hitter Tim David will slot in at six. He was seen as Kieron Pollarsd’s replacement when he joined the side. He is seen as a T20I specialist across T20 leagues.
Gerald Coetzee
Coetzee can bat at seven. He comes into this IPL with the reputation of being a classy upcoming pacer and someone who can tonk the ball down the order. He picked 20 wickets in the IPL and ended up picking his maiden IPL gig with Mumbai.
Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah is well and truly the leader of this Mumbai Indians attack. He had a good World Cup where he picked 20 wickets. He will pair up with the likes of Coetzee and Madushanka to form a terrific pace trio.
Dilshan Madushanka
Madushanka will be the third seamer in this MI lineup. He also had a good World Cup ending with 21 wickets the third-highest among all the pacers. He bowled particularly well against India. These three pacers can certainly be the future for Mumbai.
Akash Madhwal
Madhwal will be the fourth pacer in this pace attack. He can add more depth to this pace attack with his raw pace. He impressed one and all with his 14 wickets from 8 games including two four-wicket hauls.
Piyush Chawla
Chawla concludes the likely strong playing XI for MI. He picked up 22 wickets from 16 games last season and brings a lot of experience to this Mumbai Indians bowling attack.
Impact Sub: Nehal Wadhera
The Southpaw played most of his matches as the impact sub for Mumbai Indians./ This year as well, he is expected to play as a specialist with the bat.. He showed his big-hitting prowess scoring at 145.18.
