Punjab batsman Abhishek Sharma has reportedly landed in hot water about a suicide case. The left-handed batsman has received a summon from the local police ahead of the seventeenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The southpaw is set to ply his trade for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024 and his preparations could take a hit due to the legal issue. According to a report, the cricketer has landed in the controversy about the suicide case of Surat-based model Tania Singh. She was working in the field of fashion and modeling and had a good following on social media.
The Ahmedabad Mirror has reported that the 28-year-old model hailed from Rajasthan and resided at the Happy Elegance in the Vesu area. She was studying fashion design before ending her life by hanging herself from the ceiling of her apartment.
The local police suspected a love affair behind the suicide and checked out the call details which eventually led to Abhishek Sharma’s name getting involved in the matter.
According to the report, the cricketer was the last person she contacted with her phone. While there is reportedly no real contact between the deceased and the cricketer, the police have decided to call him for questioning since he had been the model’s friend for a long time.
Abhishek Sharma fails to impress:
Abhishek Sharma is currently plying his trade for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy and has not managed to make an impact with the bat. In four first-class games this season, he has registered just one half-century. His scores in the ongoing Ranji season read – 26, 91, 29, 4, 6, 7 and 36. He has picked up three wickets with his spin bowling.
The southpaw will be hoping to get out of the controversy and focus on the upcoming IPL 2024. He has scored more than 600 runs in the last two seasons of the IPL and will be eyeing a successful campaign in the upcoming edition. So far, he has played 47 matches in the IPL and has scored 893 runs with a top score of 75.
