Royal Challengers Bangalore are under a lot of criticism after their IPL Auction acquisitions. The players acquired by the Bangalore-based franchise have left the fans disappointed as they were expecting a much better squad after spending such a price. RCB spent 20.40 crores in the auction and acquired six players which included three overseas players and three Indian uncapped players.
Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired England’s bowling all-rounder Tom Curran, New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson and West Indies seamer Alzarri Joseph. The franchise acquired Alzarri Joseph for a whopping 11.50 crores. They also spent 5 crores on uncapped Yash Dayal which received a lot of criticism after the auction. The Bangalore-based franchise spent a fortune on Alzarri Joseph who has not been in his best form in recent years.
Former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh has slammed the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s auction table for their decisions in the auction. He took to X saying that even the RCB fans would select a much better side than this. He termed RCB’s auction decisions as ‘elementary mistakes’.
“Give the RCB fans half the money from the purse and a freehand at the auction table; I bet you, our fans will select a much-balanced team for all conditions and might as well save some money. Cannot believe that a pro cricket team can make such elementary mistakes,” he tweeted.

Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to win an IPL trophy and Faf du Plessis-led side were expected to target a plethora of players in this year’s auction. RCB finished sixth on the points table last season and missed out on the playoffs. Their bowling department has always been a concern and they are still barely making any effort to make their bowling department strong.
RCB released Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Harshal Patel ahead of the IPL auction and acquired Tom Curran, Lockie Ferguson, and Alzarri Joseph in the auctions. The team is without a single established spinner in the squad as they haven’t acquired any spinner in the auction. The responsibility of spin bowling will fall on Karn Sharma alongside other uncapped spinners like Mayank Dagar, Mahipal Lomror, Himanshu Sharma, and Swapnil Singh.
Will Jacks and Glenn Maxwell can also roll their arms but without any experienced spinner, there might be some trouble for RCB this season. However, the trade window is still open, as per reports, and will remain open until 30 days before the IPL 2024 kicks off. They can try to get an established spinner in their squad to maintain the balance in the squad. Royal Challengers Bangalore released Adam Zampa and Yuzvendra Chahal a few seasons ago and now they both play for Rajasthan Royals.
