Royal Challengers Bangalore finished at the seventh spot in the eight-team competition in 2008 but made it to the final in 2009 under the captaincy of Anil Kumble. It was followed by three failures in a row to advance to the playoffs before they finally progressed ahead of the league stage in 2015. In 2016, Royal Challengers Bangalore once again made it to the final under the captaincy of Virat Kohli but lost it again. From 2017 to 2019, they failed to advance to the playoffs before doing it three times in a row from 2020 to 2022.
