Former RCB skipper Anil Kumble was unsatisfied with Royal Challengers Bangalore’s choices during IPL 2024 auction. Anil Kumble feels that RCB did not make the right strategy during the auction. He also added that Royal Challengers Bangalore lacks strength in the spin department.
Royal Challengers Bangalore bought 8 players during IPL 2024 auction. Their most expensive pick was West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph. They picked him for Rs. 11.50 crore. They also spent Rs. 5 crore on Indian pacer Yash Dayal.
RCB bought Lockie Ferguson for Rs. 2 crore and Tom Curran for Rs. 1.50 crore. They also captured uncapped players like Saurav Chauhan and Swapnil Singh for Rs. 20 lakh each.

Anil Kumble Unsatisfied With Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Picks During IPL 2024 Auction
While speaking about Royal Challengers Bangalore’s picks during the IPL 2024 auction on Jio Cinema, former India captain Anil Kumble expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s strategies. Kumble feels that RCB did not buy players equal to those whom they released.
“I think I agree with this in terms of the rating, I don’t think they go beyond seven, because when you look at an auction, you’re looking to better what you have done in the past or released. The three bowlers they released, if you look at Hasaranga, Hazlewood and Harshal Patel, have you picked players better than them?”, Anil Kumble questioned.
The former Indian leg spinner also feels that RCB is short of powerful spinners in their squad.
“They still require a spinner. They don’t have a spinner. Even at the M Chinnaswamy stadium, it’s the wicket-taking spinners who always perform better. So they don’t have that. They’ll have to lean back on Karn Sharma, who hardly played last season.
He was the impact bowler for them, but didn’t play all the matches. So it’s a huge ask and then they’ve made a trade as well. So it’s not easy without a spinner. I don’t think they got it quite right”, Anil Kumble further added.
Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, RCB released their almost entire bowling unit with the likes of David Willey, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Siddharth Kaul, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Wayne Parnell. Among key pacers, they only retained Mohammed Siraj and Reece Topley.
Notably, England pacer Topley joined the Indian Premier League last season and lacks experience in IPL. Akash Deep, Karn Sharma, and Vyshak Vijay Kumar are some other bowlers in the RCB squad.

RCB Made Two Trades Ahead Of IPL 2024 Auction
RCB also made two trades ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. The three-time runners-up bought Mayank Dagar from Sunrisers Hyderabad as a replacement for Shahbaz Ahmad. They also bought Cameron Green from Mumbai Indians for an all-cash deal.
Faf du Plessis is the skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore and will lead the team in the next season. Although RCB’s bowling unit looks a little weak, they have a strong batting unit. Experienced batters like Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, and Dinesh Karthik are part of RCB’s squad.
