ToggleOn Friday, January 5, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the complete schedule for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to be the ninth edition of the competition organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The marquee tournament is scheduled to be played in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) from June 1 to June 29, 2024. It will become the first-ever ICC World Cup tournament to be hosted by the USA.
A total of 20 teams from across the globe are set to take part in the competition and it is an expansion from the 16 teams at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. The qualification of the teams was decided based on various factors. The hosts got an automatic qualification along with the top 8 sides from the last T20 World Cup tournament and the next two ranked teams in the T20I Rankings. The rest of the teams had to compete in the regional qualifiers to book their place in the T20 World Cup.
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Group Stage & Super 8 Format
In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 group stage round, the teams will be divided into four groups of five teams. The matches will be played in the round-robin format and the top two teams from each group will make their way into the Super 8 stage of the competition.
In the Super 8 stage, the teams will be divided into two groups of four teams and the teams that finish in the top two positions in each group will advance to the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will battle it out in the summit clash for the prestigious ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 trophy.
Currently, the England National Cricket Team is the defending champions as they defeated the Pakistan National Cricket Team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 final in Australia to lift the trophy. They will be looking forward to performing well and defending their title following an awful defense of their ICC Cricket World Cup title in India in 2023.
Talking about the most successful teams in the T20 World Cup, both the England National Cricket Team and the West Indies National Cricket Team won the title twice. Speaking of the top performers in the marquee competition, India National Cricket Team superstar Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer with 1141 runs in his bag and Bangladesh National Cricket Team star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is the leading wicket-taker with 47 wickets under his belt.
