Dambulla hosts the SL vs AFG third T20I on February 21. The match wraps up the series and Afghanistan are in danger of coming back empty-handed in the series. They lost the first two games and are staring at a clean sweep. 

Sri Lanka won the first T20I by four runs and then thumped Afghanistan in the second T20I by 72 runs. They scored 187/6 batting first and bowled out the Afghans for a paltry 115. 

Afghanistan who were expected to make a comeback in the T20I series after their ODI series drubbing have played even worse and let themselves down. The head-to-head count now in SL vs AFG T20Is sits 5-2 in favor of Sri Lanka. 

Sri Lanka will be led by Wanindu Hasaranga in the series. He was named the new T20I skipper for Sri Lanka after the ODI World Cup. The SLC decided to change the leadership responsibilities choosing three different captains for different formats.

Hasaranga was chosen as the T20I skipper. He won his first series as captain against Zimbabwe. Kusal Mendis was named the new ODI skipper and Dhananjaya de Silva the new T20I skipper.

Ibrahim Zadran will continue to lead Afghanistan as the stand-in skipper. Regular T20I skipper Rashid Khan is still recovering from his lower back surgery. Zadran and his fellow opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz will be the key batters for the Afghans with Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Noor Ahmead the key bowlers in the series. The players have let themselves down in the series.

So far the Dambulla pitch has remained a good one for batting. Sri Lanka scored 160 in the first T20I. Afghanistan scored 156 in response. Sri Lanka scored 180 plus in the second T20I and Afghanistan were bowled out for just 115.

That performance does not reflect the truth as the wicket was still good enough for batting. As is expected the pitch will turn spin and dew is expected to play a role as well if it does not rain.

There is a 3-5 percent chance of rain in Dambulla on February 21. Thus rain might not affect the SL vs AFG third T0I. Rain has stayed away from the first two games and we have seen a full 40 overs of play which is expected to be the same way in the third T20I as well. The temperature in the evening will be around 22 degrees which will be pleasant conditions for cricket.
