The ENG vs AUS 3rd Ashes Test begins on July 6 at Headingley, Leeds. Australia are leading the series 2-0 after winning the first two Tests. They won the first Test by two wickets and England lost the second by 43 runs. A win at Headingley will give the Aussies another Ashes series win. They are the defending champions of the urn winning 4-0 at home last season. 

Steve Smith is all set to play his 100th Test match at Headingley. He went past 9000 Test runs in the Lord’s Test match. Nathan Lyon is ruled out of the rest of the series with a calf injury. The Aussies might try out off-spinner Todd Murphy in the remaining three Test matches. He took 14 wickets in his debut season against India earlier this year.

Australia have announced their squads for the Leeds Test match bringing in Jimmy Pearson and Michael Neser into the squad. Scott Boland is also a part of the squad along with Starc and Hazlewood. It will be interesting to see the bowling attack Australia picks for the third Test.

England, on the other hand, have injury concerns with Ollie Pope who has been ruled out with a shoulder dislocation. The hosts have not yet named a replacement for Pope and might bring in Daniel Lawrence in his place in the XI.

Both the veteran pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad played both the Test matches. It will be interesting to see if one of them is rested for the next, England have added Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali back into the squad for the third Test. Ali did not play at Lord’s due to an injured bowling finger.

England will be looking towards skipper Ben Stokes for another inspirational performance. The last time he played in an Ashes Test match in at Headingley, he scored an unbeaten 135 to win the match for his side. His 155 went in vail at Lord’s. England will need another match-winning knock from him. 

After Edgbaston, Lord’s hosted the second Test from June 28 – July 2. Headingly will host the third test from July 6-10. Manchester (July 19-23) and The Oval (July 27-31) will host the final two Test matches to wrap up the series.
