Delhi Capitals (DC) added nine players in the IPL 2024 auction four of whom were wicketkeeper-batters. Jhye Richardson, Shai Hope, Tristan Stubbs, and Harry Brook were the renowned overseas names added to their squad.
As per reports, Rishabh Pant is likely to return to lead the side for Delhi Capitals. There are further reports that he might play as a specialist batter. However, nothing has been confirmed on that front. There are also question marks over Anrich Nortje’s fitness. He has been out of international cricket for a long time now and has missed the last IPL season as well.
DC have thus picked backups and Jhye Richardson is Nortje’s backup in that respect. Ome among Hope or Stubbs can also play in the XI as the specialist keeper-batsman allowing Pant to play as a specialist batter.
Their bowling too is well sorted with Ishant Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Lungi Nigidi, and Khaleel Ahmed as specialist pacers. Kuldeep Yadav is the specialist spinner along with another option Lalit Yadav.

In this article, we predict Delhi Capitals’ best XI heading into the IPL 024 season. Having added enough backups they have plenty of options to choose from. DC finished ninth last season and will look for a better performance this season.
Delhi Capitals’ Playing 11 for IPL 2024
Prithvi Shaw
Shaw will open the batting for Delhi Capitals. He did not have a good season scoring just 106 runs from 8 matches last season at an average of 13.25. He has a chance to get over 2000 IPL runs this season.
David Warner
Warner will open the batting for DC. In Pant’s absence. Warner led the side in the last season and scored runs with the bat as well. He will continue to be Delhi’s biggest hope with the bat. The southpaw recently scored 535 runs in the World Cup campaign.
Mitchell Marsh
Marsh will bat at three. He played only nine matches scoring 168 runs. He recently won the World Cup with Australia scoring nearly 500 runs for the team. The all-rounder would like to replicate his World Cup form.
Rishabh Pant (C/WK)
Pant will lead the side and if fit will also keep wickets. His keeping wickets allows DC to play an extra overseas bowler or an extra Indian bowler in the lineup. Pant has missed international cricket since the start of 2023.
Harry Brook
Harry Brook might bat at five. DC added him for just 4 crores and the England batter has shown good form heading into the IPL auction. Brook was released by SRH after just one bad season. Brook scored 190 runs in 11 matches last season.
Lalit Yadav / Yash Dhull
Lalit Yadav can bat at six. He is another all-rounder in the lineup. He is a good batter down the order and provides Delhi with the sixth bowling option. In case they want a batter, they can play Yas Dhull as well.
Axar Patel
Axar will bat at seven as the third all-rounder potentially in the lineup. Axar missed the World Cup but has played and has been a part of the Indian team both at home and away.
Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav will play as the specialist spinner. He has been a different bowler since joining the Capitals from KKR. He has increased his speed and has added more variations to his bowling as well.
Anrich Nortje / Jhye Richardson
If completely fit Anrich Nortje walks into the playing XI without a doubt. He suspected a stress fracture before the World Cup and has been out of international cricket ever since. However, with still a lot of time left before the start of IPL 2-024, he has time to regain his fitness.
Ishant Sharma
Ishant will be one of the two Indian pacers in the lineup. Ishant too has not played any international cricket since the last IPL. However, he has a wealth of experience of bowling in IPL and the management backs his experience.
Mukesh Kumar
Mukesh Kumar concludes the likely DC lineup for IPL 2024. He picked up seven wickets in 10 matches last season with Delhi Capitals. The pacer is a death-over specialist. His performance with D helped him also make his international debut across formats in 2023.
Impact Sub: Khaleel Ahmed
Khaleel Ahmed can be used as the impact sub by the franchise. He has been playing for Delhi Capitals since the last two seasons and has bowled well for the franchise picking up 25 wickets in 19 games.
