After the conclusion of the action-packed IPL 2024 auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis has come up with his first reaction on the latest inclusions to his team. Faf has been leading the franchise since 2022 but he was not able to end the team’s drought of the IPL title.
RCB traded Australian all-rounder Cameron Green ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, whereas they were able to rope in experienced names such as West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph and England speedster Tom Curran. Apart from du Plessis, RCB has modern-day great Virat Kohli and Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell.
The batting lineup will once again strengthen with the return of Rajat Patidar and with Cameron Green’s addition. However, the team’s bowling lineup lacks experience as apart from Mohammed Siraj, there is no such big name.
Faf du Plessis gives his opinion on RCB squad post-IPL 2024 auction
Faf du Plessis said (as quoted by India Today), “After the last season, we felt like we needed to improve at home. One of the things that we did really well was to succeed away from Chinnaswamy. So, we went away and put our heads together and what that looks like to be better at home and how can we get better, in what ways can we improve? It’s definitely the auction and the process of the last two months has been solely around planning to be better at home and the type of bowlers and batsmen that will be successful at home.”
“We spent a lot of time talking about RCB and where we wanted to take the franchise. I think it’s always really important that you do your homework and make sure you look at every area and talk it through. And I feel like our relation, the three of us, obviously with the help of a lot of the team, Freddie the analyst and Griffith the bowling coach, Malolan Rangarajan, and even Rajesh V Menon, I feel like we are very well-connected leadership group.”
RCB has had the likes of great players such as Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Chris Gayle, and AB de Villiers under their bank in the past but the team’s main problem has not been able to capitalize on the crucial moments of the tournament. With the likes of such great players, the three-time IPL finalists, have not been able to lift a single IPL trophy, though the team also has a very loyal fan base, who stand by their team in every edition.
RCB will want to end their IPL trophy drought this season as they will once again play at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The pitch was brilliant for the batsmen in the ODI World Cup, which tells that the runs will once again rain in Bengaluru.
